It was already dark when Jiang Hua came out. Gu Yiming assumed she wouldn't do anything when she came back, so he continued watching TV casually while waiting for her.
But after waiting for too long, he had no choice but to get up and go out to find Jiang Hua. After all, it was a dark and windy night, and if something happened to this delicate little woman, it would be a loss.
Jiang Hua walked around for a while, then stood by the lake. There was always a fence along the lake, a marble fence that kept pedestrians away. The orange streetlights cast a warm glow, reflecting on the shimmering lake surface. A ring of long, blue lights circled the lake, blending seamlessly with the dark night sky to create a gradient of colors—from blue to purple, a cool tone, yet so dreamlike.
A cold wind made her a little chilly. She sighed and gently closed her eyes. The night sky here was beautiful, with a few stars hanging in the purple sky, tiny, luminous dots against a purple backdrop. It attracted many visitors who stopped to watch, and she could hear the clicks of camera shutters. She opened her eyes, thinking it wasn't such a bad idea after all.
Such a beautiful night sky, it would be a waste not to take some photos; she might not have the same free time to relax here again. So she started looking for her phone, but half a minute later she froze on the spot, her movements utterly jarring.
She didn't bring her phone; it lay quietly in her bag. All her money and keys were also in the bag. She hadn't thought about how to get back from such a long journey. Even if she had, she would have taken a taxi. She never imagined her bag would be quietly waiting at home for her to slam the door and leave, then laugh at her misfortune.
She suddenly felt a bit overwhelmed. Not only did she have to go back, but she also worried about what would happen if Gu Yiming was asleep and couldn't hear her knocking. What if she had to spend the night outside? She was sure she would be terrified and start thinking about all sorts of scary things.
It's terrifying to think about; her imagination ran wild, enough to fill a book. She shook her head vigorously, hoping to stop cursing herself, but those around her thought she was crazy.
She quickened her pace, but the high heels made it difficult, and the wind made her a little cold. She sneezed a few times and felt particularly aggrieved. Yet, she dared not relax even for a moment, because inexplicably, she imagined a ghost in her mind, with long hair, invisible to everyone except herself. She had to pretend she couldn't see it, otherwise, she would be in big trouble if the ghost found out.
However, there were few people living in her neighborhood, and even fewer at night. As the number of people dwindled, she became a little scared, so she quickened her pace, but unexpectedly twisted her ankle.
Thankfully, she was mostly unharmed. Mustering her courage, she slowly turned around to look. There were no female or male ghosts behind her, only a few people walking by, and nothing strange. She breathed a sigh of relief, but as she turned back, she was startled by a magnified face.
"Ah! A male ghost!" Jiang Hua cried out in response, startling everyone around her, including Gu Yiming. Because Jiang Hua's voice was so loud, Gu Yiming also reflexively leaned back, resulting in him sitting on his bottom with a thud, which hurt a little.
He frowned slightly, coughed awkwardly, then stood up, extended his hand to Jiang Hua, and said, "Get up, female ghost." Jiang Hua had thought he probably hadn't heard the "male ghost," but he had, and she felt a little embarrassed. She coughed as well, looked away, and placed her hand in Gu Yiming's warm, large hand.
He hadn't expected Jiang Hua's hands to be so cold, but he said nothing. He just paused for a moment and pulled her up. After walking for a while, they finally wanted to ask each other what was on their minds. However, unlike in TV dramas, they didn't speak at the same time with perfect understanding. Instead, it was only after Jiang Hua said three or four words that Gu Yiming, who was lost in thought, finally spoke.
"You interrupt me? Don't you have any manners?" Jiang Hua's mood soured again. Her slightly pouting lips showed her anger, and her beautiful eyes rolled slightly.
"Sorry, you go first, I was just spacing out." Gu Yiming's face was slightly flushed, and he spoke somewhat evasively. Unfortunately, in such bright light, Jiang Hua was rolling her eyes and naturally missed Gu Yiming's blushing. Perhaps it was because Jiang Hua's pouting was too cute, like an angry little wife, that she suddenly laughed, but silently, so no one could detect it.
"What are you doing out here, coming to see me make a fool of myself? I don't have the time or inclination for you to make a fool of yourself." Her appearance only made Gu Yiming find her more adorable. At this moment, Gu Yiming, whose face was flushed, returned to his normal color. He glanced at Jiang Hua and said, "I came out to find you because I was worried you might be in danger."
Jiang Hua was quite satisfied with this answer, and a slight smile curved her lips, forming a beautiful arc in the dark night. Gu Yiming could see her upturned lips when he looked down slightly; they were very alluring, lightly glossy, probably because they had been a little dry lately. "A kiss will make them less dry," the thought suddenly popped into Gu Yiming's mind. He shook his head vigorously, letting his thoughts drift away.
"What's wrong?" Jiang Hua noticed out of the corner of her eye that Gu Yiming was shaking his head, frowned slightly, and looked up to ask him.
"Oh, it's nothing. I just... wanted to ask if you were cold." At this moment, the domineering CEO suddenly became a little awkward, speaking like a shy young boy, which made him even more adorable. Jiang Hua didn't think much of it and simply said, "Of course."
Upon hearing this, Gu Yiming took off his coat and gave it to Jiang Hua, buttoning it up to cover her completely. Actually, Jiang Hua had been a little touched when she heard Gu Yiming say he had come to find her, and now that he was doing this, she had no more feelings of anger towards him.
Neither of them spoke. After walking for a while, Jiang Hua's heels started to hurt; after all, they were high heels, and walking for too long was tiring. So she slowed down, but tried her best to keep up so as not to cause trouble for Gu Yiming. Gu Yiming kept glancing at Jiang Hua out of the corner of his eye. He could tell that her feet were in pain, but he didn't say anything, waiting for Jiang Hua to give in first.
"Um..." Jiang Hua couldn't help but call out to Gu Yiming.
Gu Yiming turned his head and asked casually, "What's wrong?" In fact, he was secretly overjoyed that she had finally stopped pretending to be strong.
"My feet are a little..." Before she could finish, Gu Yiming squatted down in front of her without saying a word. Jiang Hua didn't ask anything and went straight to him. His back was broad and made her feel safe.
But when they got home, they both fell silent; neither of them had brought their keys.
