Chapter 679 Promise

Jiang Hua said she forgave him, but Ye Muchen didn't believe her. He felt that although Jiang Hua said she forgave him, she still blamed him in her heart. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been so cold to him.

“I really regret leaving you back then, but I really had no choice. I couldn’t control the situation at the time. My family was pressuring me to go abroad to develop my career. I originally refused, but they cut off all my options. If I didn’t go abroad, I wouldn’t be able to make it in China. I wouldn’t mind myself, but I didn’t want you to suffer with me. It would break my heart. I thought about taking you with me, but I’m not familiar with that place. I was afraid you would suffer in an unfamiliar place with me, so I left alone without telling you.”

Ye Muchen said a lot, and Jiang Hua understood that he was explaining why he had abandoned her and gone abroad alone before. However, Jiang Hua didn't care about any of that anymore. She might have been quite sad back then, but today she no longer had the feelings she once had.

So these explanations were of no use to him.

"Okay, I understand. You don't need to explain so much to me. I've already said I don't blame you. Please don't dwell on this anymore."

"Really? You don't blame me? That's wonderful! I knew you still cared about me and wouldn't hold a grudge forever. I've achieved success in America now and can give you a good life. Would you like to come abroad with me?" Ye Muchen looked at Jiang Hua with deep affection and began his confession. He assumed that Jiang Hua's forgiveness meant she wanted to be with him.

But all of this was just wishful thinking on his part; Jiang Hua had no such thoughts at all.

Jiang Hua, on the other hand, felt speechless, wondering why Ye Muchen would suddenly say such a thing, which made her feel very frightened.

But her purpose in coming here today was to make things clear to him: she was no longer the same person she used to be.

So Jiang Hua solemnly told Ye Mucheng, "I can't go abroad with you, and I can't be with you anymore. I'm already married. I love my fiancé very much. We love each other very much, and I'm very happy. I won't leave him."

Jiang Hua made it very clear that she hoped Ye Mucheng could understand and give up. There was absolutely no possibility of them ever getting back together.

Ye Mucheng didn't believe it. She thought Jiang Hua was deliberately testing him, so he said helplessly, "Stop joking, okay? I really know I was wrong. Please forgive me. I will definitely treat you well in the future. Please don't say things that hurt me like that anymore."

"I'm not lying to you, everything I said is true. I'm engaged, I have a fiancé. This is absolutely true, it even made the headlines, you can see it."

Seeing how serious Jiang Hua was, Ye Mucheng actually opened his phone to check, and sure enough, there was news of Jiang Hua's engagement. Seeing this was like a bolt from the blue.

He thought Jiang Hua would wait for him to come back, but how could she have married another man? He couldn't accept it and was very angry. He questioned Jiang Hua, "Why? We've only been apart for a short time, and you already have a new love. Why are you doing this to me? Why didn't you wait for me? You should have known I would come back to you. Is this how you treat me?" He then buried his face in his hands in anguish.

Jiang Hua didn't want to see Ye Mucheng like this, but the fact was what it was. She just wanted Ye Mucheng to accept reality as soon as possible and find his own happiness.

"Ye Muchen, don't be like this. It's the truth. I'm already married. I love my fiancé very much, and we're very happy. I also believe that you will find your own happiness. We will both be fine."

But Ye Mucheng didn't believe that Jiang Hua had fallen in love with someone else. They had been together for so long and gone through so much together, how could Jiang Hua be with someone else so quickly? Ye Mucheng didn't believe it.

Seeing his disbelief, Jiang Hua explained, "I did resent you for a while after you left, and I misunderstood that you had abandoned me. I was so sad that I couldn't eat every day. But I couldn't stay depressed like this forever. That's when I met my current fiancé. We've been through a lot together, and there have been many misunderstandings. But after all that, I've fallen completely in love with him, and I feel like I can't live without him. So gradually, I stopped blaming you. You have your own reasons, and I understand you."

"It's all my fault. I shouldn't have left you, otherwise none of this would have happened," Ye Mucheng said regretfully.

"Don't say that to Ye Mucheng. We have new lives now, so don't dwell on the past. We'll be better off letting go of each other."

But Ye Muchen didn't think so. He believed that only they were the best for each other.

As he spoke, he began to reminisce: "Jiang Hua, do you remember this coffee shop? I specifically chose to meet you here so that we could reminisce about our past."

Jiang Hua understood what he meant, of course. This place did hold many fond memories for them, but she didn't want to recall them now.

So she pretended not to know and said, "I've forgotten everything."

Ye Muchen was indeed disappointed: "You've forgotten, but I haven't. Back then, you loved to drag me here. We'd sit here for an entire afternoon, chatting away. We didn't need to say a word, but we were so happy. We'd quietly read, and when you came across something interesting, you'd nudge me and share it with me. Those were truly blissful times. We came here every day, didn't we?"

Ye Mucheng wanted Jiang Hua to regain her memories, but it was clear that Jiang Hua didn't want to reply to him.

But that didn't stop him from continuing to reminisce: "Maybe you don't feel this way, but every time I go there, I have a different feeling. I really like the feeling of you reading a book and then getting sleepy and resting your head on my shoulder. You always tell me to wake you up, but looking at your sleeping face, I just can't bear to."

"Alright, stop talking." Jiang Hua was a little flustered, but they had shared many wonderful memories together. She didn't want to recall them anymore.

Ye Mucheng was very happy; Jiang Hua's expression meant that she had remembered as well.

So he didn't stop but spoke even more excitedly: "Back then we were really naive. I didn't know how to maintain a relationship, and I always made you angry, but you would never hold a grudge against me for long. As long as I bought you your favorite little cake, even if you were angry about something, you would feel better. So even when I was abroad, when I missed you, I would buy myself a little cake, as if you were by my side. But after I finished eating it, I felt really empty inside. Without you by my side, I really had a hard time every day."
