Chapter Twenty-Three: What right do you have to tell me what to do?

Jiang Hua, who was originally a very gentle person, was also furious with Zhang Zetian. Jiang Hua thought to herself: If I am so angry, how can someone like Gu Yiming, who has been at the top of the altar for many years and is such a proud person, tolerate such harsh words from Zhang Zetian? Jiang Hua became even more worried.

Jiang Hua often goes to bookstores on weekends. When she goes to bookstores, she always buys a cup of double-flavored milk tea to drink while she goes shopping.

"Mom, I'm going out." Jiang Hua changed her shoes and prepared to leave.

"Xiaohua, come back early. I made your favorite braised pig's trotters today," Jiang's mother said to her good daughter with a smile.

"Okay, Mom." Jiang Hua tilted her head and smiled, then closed the door.

Jiang Hua bought a double-flavored milk tea. Just as she was deciding which books to look at and which ones to buy at the bookstore, she suddenly saw Gu Yiming. He was looking down, his hoodie hood was askew, and his pace was inconsistent. Seeing him like this, Jiang Hua wanted to call out to him, but thinking about Gu Yiming's recent dejected state, she became more curious about what he was doing.

Jiang Hua observed Gu Yiming the whole way, and finally saw him turn a corner. Jiang Hua followed him and turned the corner as well. She saw Gu Yiming enter a shop. When Jiang Hua looked up, the four big characters "Xin Xin Internet Cafe" were clearly visible in her eyes.

Jiang Hua was shocked that Gu Yiming would come to a place like this. Moreover, judging from how he walked with his head down, it must not be his first time here.

In a moment of impulsiveness, Jiang Hua rushed in and saw Gu Yiming preparing to turn on the camera. She immediately dragged him out.

"Gu Yiming, how could you go to a place like that?" Jiang Hua said angrily to Gu Yiming, whom she had pulled out.

Gu Yiming shook off her hand and frowned: "That kind of place? What place?"

"A place you would never have gone before!" Jiang Hua's voice was full of anger.

"You said it yourself, that was in the past. I'm not the same person I was before." Gu Yiming closed his eyes, exhaled, and strode away.

Jiang Hua was both angry and heartbroken; he shouldn't have acted this way.

She took a deep breath and shouted at Gu Yiming's retreating figure, "You're not like this! You've always been the same Gu Yiming!"

Gu Yiming paused for a moment, but still didn't turn around.

Jiang Hua later often liked to supervise Gu Yiming. Gu Yiming's cold words were often useless to her. Jiang Hua would always use a joking tone to tell him to eat well and study hard. Even though Jiang Hua knew the answers to those questions, she would still make Gu Yiming explain them to her, pretending that she didn't know anything. When Gu Yiming went to the internet cafe to get addicted to games, she would stop him. If she couldn't stop him, she would turn on a computer next to Gu Yiming and keep an eye on him.

"Jiang Hua, why are you bothering me every day?" Gu Yiming was unusually impatient one day.

"No, I just wanted to help you." Jiang Hua said, sounding a little aggrieved.

"Do I need your help? What right do you have to tell me what to do?" Gu Yiming was losing his temper.

“Your parents are just divorced, why should your life be tied to their marriage?” Jiang Hua bit her lip and said, word by word.

Jiang Hua already knows everything that happened to Gu Yiming.

"Then what? What right do you have to discipline me? Since my parents don't care about me, you have even less right to do so." Gu Yiming's voice was full of stubbornness.

“I’m willing to help you, I’m willing to take care of you. I believe you don’t like things as they are now, and this isn’t the real you.” Jiang Hua said sincerely.

It was as if a string in Gu Yiming's heart had been plucked.

"How did you know what I was thinking?" Gu Yiming still stubbornly insisted.

“Because I believe you’re not that kind of person.” Jiang Hua took Gu Yiming’s hand and said earnestly.

Later, Gu Yiming gradually grew closer to Jiang Hua, and with her help and companionship, he slowly regained his enthusiasm for learning. Gu Yiming often waited for Jiang Hua to go out to eat together. However, Jiang Hua was too popular, and many people could eat and laugh with her. When Gu Yiming was with them, he felt a little out of place. But he only felt relaxed and at ease when paying his phone bill.

As time went by, Gu Yiming gradually fell in love with Jiang Hua. After all, she was so warm-hearted, kind, youthful, beautiful, lively, and generous—almost all the virtues of a cheerful girl. These were the reasons why Gu Yiming liked her, but it wasn't just because of these qualities.

Gu Yiming couldn't contain his feelings and wanted to confess his love to her, so he prepared a gift: a beautiful notebook with a note inside containing what he wanted to say to Jiang Hua. He planned to give it to her in person the next day.

"I have something I want to give you," Gu Yiming said, feigning calmness.

Before Jiang Hua could answer, Gu Yiming saw her opening a small note on her desk. After reading it, Jiang Hua looked somewhat lost and troubled. She folded the note neatly and finally put it in the trash bag.

“What’s inside the painting? Why did you throw it away?” Gu Yiming asked.

"It's nothing, just some things written by a friend I know," Jiang Hua said with an awkward smile.

"By the way, what were you about to say to me? Didn't you say you were going to give me something?" Jiang Hua changed the subject.

Gu Yiming knew very well that the note must contain a love confession. Since Jiang Hua wouldn't accept anyone else, why would she accept him? Gu Yiming felt a little discouraged. After thinking for a moment, he decided not to give it to her. He turned around, took out the note from the notebook, and handed the notebook to Jiang Hua. "Here, this is a gift for you. Thank you for your help."

Jiang Hua took the notebook and smiled happily, "Thank you, Gu Yiming."

Gu Yiming smiled slightly, deciding to continue smiling at her like that.

Although Gu Yiming gave up on his promise to confess to Jiang Hua, he didn't treat those who pursued her well. Every time they gave Jiang Hua gifts, snacks, or love letters, Gu Yiming, being her deskmate, took advantage of their proximity and threw them all into the trash can.

"Painting is mine." Gu Yiming always felt this way, and looking at Jiang Hua, who was always lively and smiling beside him, he was always very happy.

Lost in his memories, Gu Yiming pondered for a long time. He looked at the moon in the sky, and the voice in his mind was that gentle and lovely girl.
