After the butler finished speaking, Gu Yiming gave him a few more instructions and then dismissed him. After busying himself with subsidiary matters in his study for a while, Gu Yiming gently tapped his throbbing head and got up to check on Xu Xiaoxiao. Reaching her bedroom door, Gu Yiming saw her resting on the bed, her gaze somewhat vacant for some reason. Gu Yiming knocked softly on the door, and seeing that Xu Xiaoxiao didn't answer, he simply walked over.
Seeing that Xu Xiaoxiao was somewhat lost in thought, and not knowing what she was thinking about, and that she didn't even notice him coming in, Gu Yiming had no choice but to pull out a chair and sit down gently in front of Xu Xiaoxiao. Only then did Xu Xiaoxiao come back to her senses and realize that Gu Yiming had arrived.
He gently took Xu Xiaoxiao's hand: "What's wrong? What are you thinking about so intently?"
Xu Xiaoxiao replied softly, "It's nothing, I just feel weak and my body aches." Gu Yiming then gently massaged her body and chatted with her to cheer her up. Gu Yiming shared his day's experiences, both funny and frustrating, with Xu Xiaoxiao listening intently.
After finishing his explanation, Gu Yiming frankly revealed his thoughts and asked Xu Xiaoxiao, "Bai Wei and Ding Man came by during the day?" Gu Yiming felt that Xu Xiaoxiao must have overheard his conversation with the housekeeper, so he didn't want to hide anything, nor was it necessary, since it wasn't a big deal in Xu Xiaoxiao's eyes. If he concealed what he already knew and she found out, things might not be so simple, so he simply asked her directly.
At this moment, Xu Xiaoxiao was enveloped by Gu Yiming's gentleness and felt very happy. She felt that since Gu Yiming was willing to ask her, it meant that he trusted and cared about her, and indeed, in her opinion, it wasn't a big deal. Thinking this, her heart warmed even more, and she told Gu Yiming about the happy things they had talked about that day.
She excitedly told Gu Yiming, "I cooked today, and they all praised me for making it as delicious as a master chef's!" Xu Xiaoxiao told Gu Yiming with great enthusiasm, and she even sat up while talking.
Gu Yiming didn't care about any of this, because he already knew. He held Xu Xiaoxiao firmly with his large hand, patiently listening to her excitedly talk, nodding in agreement and encouraging her to continue.
After Xu Xiaoxiao finished speaking, Gu Yiming said considerately, "You must take good care of yourself. No matter what happens, your health and happiness are the most important things. Tell me about all the other troublesome things and leave them to me. Don't worry."
Xu Xiaoxiao suddenly felt a warm glow in her heart, like sunshine illuminating an icy corner. She pulled Gu Yiming forcefully onto the bed and snuggled into his warm embrace: "You're so good to me, I love you so much," Xu Xiaoxiao said sweetly. Gu Yiming gently stroked her head: "Good girl."
"Oh right, you haven't eaten yet, have you?" Xu Xiaoxiao suddenly sat up as if she had just remembered something.
"Yes, I ate a little. I haven't had much of an appetite all day." Gu Yiming was startled by her sudden remark and frowned slightly as he replied.
"Then I'll go make you something to eat." Xu Xiaoxiao was worried when she heard that he hadn't eaten much, so she quickly got up to make him a late-night snack.
Gu Yiming reacted quickly, grabbing Xu Xiaoxiao's arm: "No need, I don't want you to work too hard, you should rest." Xu Xiaoxiao smiled, "It's okay, then I won't do it, I'll heat up the big meal I made tonight for you, alright?"
Hearing her insistence, Gu Yiming released her wrist and followed her downstairs. Gu Yiming sat at the dining table, quietly watching Xu Xiaoxiao busy herself in the kitchen, heating up food for him. A smile appeared on his face. To outsiders, Gu Yiming appeared happy, radiating a warm smile, but only Gu Yiming himself knew that his heart was completely unmoved.
Soon, Xu Xiaoxiao brought over the heated food. "The midnight snack is ready! Eat up." After setting out the food and dishes, Xu Xiaoxiao sat down next to Gu Yiming, resting her chin on her hand and quietly watching him.
Gu Yiming thought for a moment, picked up the bowl, slowly picked up some food, and gently brought it to Xu Xiaoxiao's mouth: "Ah, open your mouth." Seeing him feeding her so gently, Xu Xiaoxiao was stunned for a moment, then opened her mouth.
"You've had a tough day. You're already feeling weak, so eat something to help you recover. I'm not hungry," Gu Yiming said as he gently fed Xu Xiaoxiao bite by bite.
Xu Xiaoxin was deeply moved by Gu Yiming's sudden tenderness towards her.
Seeing that Xu Xiaoxiao was in a good mood, Gu Yiming said to her with a hint of apology, "I have something to do at the company tomorrow. I have to go overseas for an important meeting, so I probably won't be able to be with you for the next few days. Please take good care of yourself." He looked at Xu Xiaoxiao with some sadness.
Xu Xiaoxiao said very understandingly, "You go ahead and do your work. Don't worry, I'll take good care of myself. You, on the other hand, should take care of yourself. Even if you don't have an appetite, remember to eat."
Just then, they finished eating. Gu Yiming picked up Xu Xiaoxiao and said in a low voice, "I will." Then he turned around and went upstairs to take her back to her bedroom.
The next morning, Gu Yiming hurriedly boarded a plane to overseas. When Xu Xiaoxiao opened her eyes, the house was already empty. She didn't think much of it and just went about her leisurely life.
Sitting on the plane, looking at the clusters of white clouds outside the window, Gu Yiming gently pressed his temples. The worries in his heart were just like those white clouds, forming a tight circle.
Why the worry? It could only be because of Jiang Hua. He hadn't been able to contact her at all these days; she completely ignored him. He understood; anyone would be angry. But fearing something else might have happened to Jiang Hua, he insisted on putting aside his busy work to see her in person.
He frequently inquired with the people at the manor, who all said that they were taking good care of her, that her health was gradually recovering, and that Jiang Hua's mood was much better than before. This was probably the best comfort for Gu Yiming. After all, in his heart, as long as Jiang Hua was alright, all the other troubles were fine; he didn't care about anything else, and it was none of his concern.
Despite his worries, Gu Yiming wasn't in a hurry. At least he had received assurances that Jiang Hua was healthy and getting better, which finally eased his anxiety a little. But he was still uneasy, as he was thinking about Jiang Hua, so he boarded the plane to visit her.
