Seeing the expression on Gu Yiming's face, Xu Wei knew that she had successfully escaped. He would definitely not think that she was the one who did it, and he had drawn all the attention to Jiang Shiwan, making her his scapegoat.
Xu Wei felt that Gu Yiming would dislike Jiang Shiwan even more, which would bring her closer to him. This way, she could kill two birds with one stone and was really too clever.
Gu Yiming asked her how she felt now.
"What? What do you mean?" Xu Wei didn't understand Gu Yiming's meaning for a moment.
Gu Yiming lowered his voice a little and said that what he meant was that no matter what, this matter was related to him, and he would take responsibility for her. She could have any compensation she wanted, and he could give her lots and lots of money, as long as she named a price.
Xu Wei ignored him after hearing this, leaving the room filled with an awkward silence. After a while, Gu Yiming's voice came through.
"You can have anything you want, I'll try my best to satisfy you as long as you ask." Gu Yiming thought that Xu Wei was not satisfied with the conditions he had proposed.
"I'll do whatever you ask, as long as it's within my power."
Xu Wei thought for a moment and said she didn't want anything. If she had to ask, she only had one request: could she say she wanted to be his girlfriend? Could he agree? Could he do that?
Xu Wei looked at him with a wronged expression. Gu Yiming felt bad seeing her looking at him with such a pitiful look, but he didn't like her, so of course he couldn't let her be his girlfriend.
But he couldn't refuse her outright, so he changed the subject and said, "How about this, you get dressed first, and then I'll take you home."
Xu Wei knew he would never let her be his girlfriend, but she didn't know what else to say, so she could only silently go take a shower before going home.
Xu Wei turned on the water, letting it flow continuously from her head. Tears dripped onto the ground along with the hot water. She thought that Gu Yiming would make her his girlfriend after doing this to her. Although he didn't say it, she knew the outcome.
After leaving the house, Xu Wei put on makeup, dried her hair with a hairdryer, and, carrying her belongings, pretended to be very cool in front of Gu Yiming, who was standing by the door.
"Let's go, didn't you say you'd take me home?"
The two went downstairs one after the other. Gu Yiming opened the car door for her, helped her fasten her seatbelt, and got into the car himself. Neither of them spoke in the car; only the sound of the wind could be heard.
They arrived at Xu Wei's house shortly after. Xu Wei unbuckled her seatbelt and said she was home, so she would go home first. As she opened the car door to get out, Gu Yiming called her back.
"Well, you don't need to go to work for the next two days. I'll give you two days off. You can come back to work in two days. Just stay home and rest well."
Then he told Xu Wei that he would make it up to her, and that she could tell him whenever she thought of it, and he approved two days off for her.
Xu Wei nodded, then forced a smile and said she knew she wasn't good enough for him. She was self-aware enough; her status was so lowly that she actually wanted to be his girlfriend—it was utterly ridiculous.
"I won't hold you back. After all, you have such a bright future ahead of you. Don't worry, I don't need you to take responsibility for me."
Gu Yiming didn't respond after hearing this, and drove away from her sight. She could only watch helplessly as he drove away.
After leaving, Gu Yiming did not go home, but went to the company. As soon as he entered the company, some employees greeted him, but he ignored them and rushed into the office without any expression on his face.
The employees looked at each other, none of them knowing what had happened to the boss. They only knew that the boss was angry, and it was best not to provoke him; keeping their jobs was the most important thing.
He sat in the chair looking at the messy documents on the table. Actually, the documents were all neatly arranged, but he was in a bad mood and nothing looked right to him.
"Where are you all? Don't you want to work here anymore? Can't you see how messy your desk is? Can't you tidy it up? Are you packing your things and going home?" Gu Yiming shouted in the office.
Hearing the noise, the secretary rushed in, thinking, "How could it be 'messy'? I just tidied up the boss's desk." She stood in front of Gu Yiming, looked down at the desk, and found that it was just as tidy as before, not 'messy' at all.
"Boss, the desk isn't 'messy,' it's just like before," the secretary said timidly.
"I said it's 'messy,' and it's 'messy.' Get it sorted out right now. If you can do it, do it; if you can't, get out," Gu Yiming said angrily.
The secretary could only reluctantly put the documents back on the desktop and reorganize them one by one. In fact, the reorganized documents looked the same as before, but Gu Yiming felt that the reorganized documents looked much better.
Gu Yiming lit a cigarette and stood by the window, thinking about what had happened. He remembered asking Xu Wei what compensation she wanted, and Xu Wei saying she didn't want any compensation, she just wanted to be his girlfriend. Gu Yiming thought to himself: Ha, how could that be possible?
He could have given her money, a car, or a villa if she wanted them, but she didn't want anything except to be his girlfriend. Didn't he think that was too much to ask? But Xu Wei sounded so pitiful that he felt a little sorry for her.
The culprit behind this whole thing is Jiang Shiwan. If it weren't for her, this wouldn't have happened, and I wouldn't be so troubled. It's all because of her.
Gu Yiming really wanted to rush up to Jiang Shiwan and question her about why she did this. Was she trying to get revenge on him? Didn't she think it was a bit despicable to use such methods?
Gu Yiming's rationality kept him in check, because he had no evidence to prove that Jiang Shiwan was the one who did it. He couldn't just rush up to her and accuse her of drugging him.
Meanwhile, Jiang Shiwan, unaware of what had happened, accidentally broke a cup at home. She had a feeling that something bad was about to happen, but she didn't pay much attention to it, assuming that she had just dropped it because she was too weak to hold it properly, and simply ignored it.
Gu Yiming grew angrier and more agitated the more he thought about it, almost to the point of losing his temper. He felt irritated just thinking about Jiang Shiwan, but the thought of Xu Wei only amplified his irritation and headache. He couldn't take it anymore and decided to stop thinking about these things.
Gu Yiming called his secretary in. The secretary entered nervously, thinking something important had happened. But Gu Yiming simply asked her if she had any plans for the afternoon. The secretary said she had a minor meeting that afternoon, and Gu Yiming told her to cancel it.
Gu Yiming picked up his clothes and walked out. After he left, everyone in the office breathed a sigh of relief and felt much more relaxed.
"Waiter, give me a dozen bottles of beer."
