It's up to you whether you choose to skip it or not—I'm still trying to understand for all you ladies with different tastes, mwah!!
Another day.
Ling Wei answered the phone while quickly walking into the apartment building's elevator.
"Yes, the costumes and props must strictly adhere to historical records. There can't be any materials that look out of place... Yes, especially Xiao Yue's early court attire, we need to emphasize that..." She was intently explaining the details of the film's preparation to the other end of the phone when the elevator doors slowly closed.
The signal started to become intermittent.
"Hello? Can you hear me?" Ling Wei then realized she had forgotten to press the floor button and gave a helpless smile to the person on the other end of the phone. "I'll call you back later, the signal is bad in the elevator."
She had just reached out and pressed the button for the 6th floor when the elevator suddenly opened its doors with a "ding".
Someone in the lobby on the first floor wanted to come in, so Ling Wei lowered her head and made room for them.
A shadow fell, carrying a clean and refreshing aura.
Ling Wei was looking down at her phone when she subconsciously felt that the distance was too close, so she took half a step back.
Unexpectedly, the other person also took a half step closer, and a faint warmth emanated from their body.
She frowned, looked up, and was about to speak when her breath suddenly stopped.
The tall man wearing a black mask had somehow trapped her in the corner of the elevator. The one closest to her was wearing a black leather jacket, and his amber eyes, hidden beneath his tousled hair, were slightly curved. The one near the elevator door was wearing a dark gray trench coat, and his gaze behind his gold-rimmed glasses was calm and unfathomable.
They're all old acquaintances.
The hindsight system was also startled: "Isn't that Lu's brother?!"
Ling Wei's body reacted faster than her brain, and her fingertips slammed into the door open button.
The other person was faster; their hand, clad in a black half-finger glove, reached out first, the warm palm completely enveloping her fingers through the thin leather, blocking the keys as well.
He slowly pulled off his mask, revealing the face that often appeared on huge billboards.
“Friend,” Lu Zhao smiled and tilted his head, waving the access card in his hand, “Don’t be nervous, they’re all residents.”
The apartment complex where Ling Wei rented was known for its privacy, with one apartment per floor. She lived on the 6th floor, and at that moment, she saw Lu Zhao slowly reach out and turn on the light for the 7th floor.
Ling Wei: "......"
system:"......"
Before Ling Wei could unleash her fury in her mind, the system preemptively knelt down: "Your Majesty, please calm down! As you know, I am but a weak and helpless consciousness. If I were not deliberately vigilant, I would be unable to scan the surrounding environment around the clock without any blind spots, Your Majesty! I am truly no match for those systems that monitor with big data!"
Ling Wei internally screamed: "Lung fog!!!"
But now is clearly not the time to settle scores with the system; Lu Zhao has already begun his sarcastic performance.
"Oh my, what a coincidence!" His eyes darted back and forth between Ling Wei and the floor number. "I was looking for a place with good privacy, and I never expected to find this place. What I never expected was that I would become neighbors with my 'best friend in the world'!" He emphasized those words.
Ling Wei: "......" Why isn't the elevator here yet!
Seeing that she didn't answer, Lu Zhao intensified his efforts: "Oh dear, that's strange. I did just move in, that's true, but my 'best friend in the world' didn't just move in! She didn't even tell me! Why is that? Haha!"
He chuckled twice, then his lips twitched down in a wronged manner, his amber eyes gazing at her with wetness, silently accusing his "best" friend of neglecting her duty.
The other person next to him remained standing still, silently cosplaying as a sculpture.
Helpless, Ling Wei could only force a smile: "I've been... quite busy lately."
"Yes, you're a very busy person."
Lu Zhao's tone was so sour it could be pickled cucumbers, "I can forgive you for accidentally blacklisting me back then and taking so long to unblock me. But for the past six months, you've been ignoring me when I try to chat with you."
He suddenly leaned closer and said in a voice that wasn't loud but loud enough for those nearby to hear, "Don't you even want to look at abs anymore? My number one best friend in the world?"
Ling Wei felt that the sculpture in front of her seemed to have moved slightly.
She could only glare fiercely at Lu Zhao. How dare he say that! Moving in with her? Is that something a good friend would do?
She's absolutely the biggest and most obsessive fan in the world!
However, for some reason, after being glared at by her, Lu Zhao's original low mood dissipated a bit, and he became like a large dog that had been stroked, even happily moving closer.
"Since we're so lucky," he pressed his advantage, extending an invitation, "why don't you come over for dinner sometime? It's a housewarming party, and I'm sure my best friend wouldn't refuse."
"bite--"
We've finally reached the sixth floor!
Ling Wei felt like she'd been granted a pardon. She hurried out, not turning back as she uttered a string of perfunctory words: "Haha, that's great! Congratulations on moving! This neighborhood is really nice, the green space is quite high, and I heard the property management is very responsible... Wait... wait until spring when the flowers bloom, it'll definitely be beautiful! Oh, by the way, the weather's gotten cooler lately, so remember to keep warm since you just moved in... Haha..."
The door closed, leaving only a string of ambiguous laughter echoing in the elevator.
They just haven't said whether they'll come or not.
Lu Zhao: "......"
The elevator started moving upwards.
Lu Zhao couldn't hold back and started yelling at her older brother, who was dressed as a silent statue from head to toe: "It must be because of you that she ran away faster than a rabbit! I told you I could live here by myself, why did you have to come along?!"
Lu Yan didn't even lift his eyelids, only staring at the elevator door: "Don't forget, who bought this floor from the previous owner."
Lu Zhao choked: "I have that little bit of money to buy a house!"
Lu Yan: "But you can't find and persuade the previous homeowner, who isn't short of money, to sell immediately."
Lu Zhao: "...So impressive! Now you're just standing here like a burden!"
He struck precisely, "Just now in the elevator, Weiwei didn't even glance at you, did she?"
Lu Yan was rarely speechless and his jawline tightened slightly.
Indeed, Ling Wei deliberately avoided looking at him from beginning to end.
Seeing his discomfiture, Lu Zhao finally felt a little better: "Your parents have already told you everything about Su Yuqing. Putting aside whether she really knew about something beforehand and was planning it, even if she didn't, our Lu family gave her more than enough when we first thanked her. Don't try to play the 'repay a favor many times over' act again."
He warned, "If you keep doing this, Weiwei will never talk to me again! At that point, I'll expel you from my brotherhood!"
Seeing that the usually decisive CEO Lu could only listen to his admonitions, Lu Zhao was secretly delighted.
Even after they entered their newly bought house, Lu Zhao was still nagging: "I don't know why you followed me here. If you ask me, it's fine if Weiwei ignores you, but do you enjoy being slapped by her like I do...?"
Lu Yan finally couldn't help but interrupt him: "What are your plans next?"
Lu Zhao said matter-of-factly, "Wait for her to summon you or be summoned on your own, fulfill all her needs, and then... just stick to her like a leech."
After saying that, he gave his brother a disdainful look and said, "You can't do this job. Weiwei is bothering you now, so stay away from her and don't drag me down with you."
Lu Yan remained silent for a moment, then finally squeezed out a single word through gritted teeth: "...Okay."
