Chapter 10 A Drop

Chapter 10 A Drop

Ling Wei remained silent, and a subtle silence spread between the two of them.

"The skewers are here! Eat them while they're hot!"

A steaming skewer of grilled meat was placed between them. Lu Yan looked at Ling Wei, his lips slightly moving, as if he wanted to continue their previous conversation: "I..."

"Let's eat first." Ling Wei picked up a skewer of meat first, as if the silence from before had never existed.

She even greeted him very naturally. Lu Yan looked at her profile as she was eating intently with her head down, and suddenly asked softly, "Are you angry?"

Ling Wei paused almost imperceptibly.

She looked up at him, flashing a flawless smile, her eyes innocent: "No, not at all."

The straightforward answer, without saying anything else, left Lu Yan speechless.

He ate in silence.

The system sensed Ling Wei's displeasure and remained as quiet as a chicken.

Just then, the number of customers in front of the stall suddenly increased.

The uncle was so busy that he barely had time to breathe. Seeing this, Lu Yan stood up naturally, rolled up his sleeves, and went to help. He skillfully picked up the skewers, flipped them, and sprinkled seasonings on them. He didn't have the airs of a rich young master at all, as if he had returned to the days when he was struggling to make a living.

Ling Wei rested her chin on her hand, watching his busy figure.

After a while, Lu Yan placed a few more skewers on the plate in front of her and said in a low voice, "Wait for me a moment."

The uncle also warmly served Ling Wei a bottle of ice-cold beer, saying cheerfully, "Girl, this is the perfect accompaniment to barbecue, it's just right!"

When Lu Yan finally finished his work and sat back down, he saw Ling Wei holding a wine bottle, her face flushed, and letting out a loud burp right in front of him.

The middle-aged man scratched his head awkwardly, "Oh dear, this... this is 3.5-degree fruit beer, I didn't expect this girl..."

Ling Wei's eyes were glazed over. When she saw Lu Yan, she grinned foolishly and raised the wine bottle: "Hiccup... Lu Yan! Cheers!"

Lu Yan: "..." He rubbed his temples helplessly.

Although the uncle insisted on treating, Lu Yan secretly slipped some money under the plate before leaving.

Ling Wei followed Lu Yan slowly. When they arrived at the place where the electric bikes were parked, he stood there for a long time without moving.

"Why...why isn't it moving?" Ling Wei tapped his back. "Genshin Impact, activate!"

Lu Yan didn't move, because the electric scooter was still there, but the battery had vanished.

A kind passerby noticed this and reminded him, "Young man, the security camera here is broken. There have been a lot of battery thefts lately, didn't you know? That's why everyone parks their cars over there." He pointed to a brightly lit area with dense traffic not far away.

Lu Yan: "..."

No wonder they were the only ones with their car under that tree.

Left with no other option, he took out his phone to hail a taxi.

As soon as he turned around, he saw Ling Wei swaying as she climbed onto the back seat of the electric scooter, gripping the edge of the seat tightly with both hands, head held high, and shouting at the empty space ahead: "Let's go! Giddy up—!"

Lu Yan tried to pull her out and put her in the taxi, but Ling Wei suddenly clung tightly to the car frame and started wailing, "Waaah... We've already paid off all our debts! Why are you still selling me! Police officer, help me! There are human traffickers!!"

Her voice was clear and bright, and her delivery of lines was excellent, instantly attracting the attention of passersby.

Lu Yan rarely died.

He took a deep breath and finally made his decision.

He steadied himself on the handlebars and said in a deep voice to Ling Wei, who was sitting in the back seat, thinking she was riding a horse at full speed, "Hold on tight."

Then, resignedly, he pushed the heavy electric bike, along with the restless passenger on it, step by step, toward the school.

The night breeze was cool, dispelling some of the heat.

Ling Wei, leaning on the back seat, seemed to think the car was moving too slowly. She even reached out and patted the seat in front of her, urging them on indistinctly:

"Master... please... hurry up!"

Lu Yan, pushing the cart: "..."

He had never been so speechless in his life.

==============

The next day, when Ling Wei opened her eyes, she was not greeted by the familiar dormitory ceiling.

Sitting up and looking around, the room was spacious and simple, mainly in gray and white tones, with clean lines and excellent quality furniture.

System: "Oh, our little canary's awake? Do you remember what happened last night?"

Ling Wei buried her head in the blanket and wailed silently: Aaaaaaaahhhhhh!

A bottle of fruit beer might knock her out, but it wouldn't cause her to black out.

Last night, because she insisted on staying on the back of the electric scooter, Lu Yan had no choice but to push her back to her dormitory step by step.

Then, the curfew period passed in a flash.

Lu Yan was about to wake up the dormitory supervisor for her, but she stopped him.

"Coming home late will get me recorded... No, no way!"

I'm currently in the prime of my career, and I can't afford to leave any stains on my record, you understand?!

She grabbed Lu Yan and shook him violently.

Upon learning that the "career advancement period" referred to her precious time of changing majors, Lu Yan was speechless and could only resign himself to being a hard-working ox, pulling her back to the apartment that the Lu family had bought for him nearby.

Let's rewind to last night.

Lu Yan settled her in the guest room, his tone weary after a long night: "We'll go back tomorrow. Just rest here today. Call me if you need anything."

"Okay, okay, I understand..." Ling Wei waved her hands haphazardly, her eyes glazed over. "You can go now. Goodnight."

Lu Yan: "..."

Ling Wei: Why aren't you leaving yet?

Isn't his reason for not leaving obvious enough?!

Ling Wei stepped into the empty bathtub right in front of him, curled up, and looked like she was about to fall asleep there.

Lu Yan's temple throbbed slightly, and he reached out to pull her out, saying, "Come out first."

Ling Wei was shocked and began to struggle: "What are you doing?! Don't do this! Mr. Lu! We are just business partners!"

Lu Yan: ...What he wants to do most right now is to go back to the barbecue stall and strangle the version of himself that let Ling Wei drink alcohol.

Completely exhausted, he bent down, ignoring the person's struggles, and picked them up horizontally.

Falling into a firm, warm embrace, Ling Wei miraculously calmed down.

A sliver of relief at being saved had just risen in Lu Yan's heart—

"Big sir."

Ling Wei suddenly spoke, and her next words almost made Lu Yan slip: "Did you pay me with your New Year's money?"

Lu Yan turned his head and met her blinking, innocent peach blossom eyes.

“After all, you’re still a college student, you don’t earn money…” she added softly.

Lu Yan, the future head of the Lu family and currently a college student nominally "living off his parents": "...It's living expenses!"

He insisted on correcting him, saying that the card was given to him by his father after they were reunited as family, out of sympathy for his past experiences.

"Oh, it's pocket money," Ling Wei muttered in realization, snuggling closer to him to find a more comfortable position.

Lu Yan: "..."

How could she say something so infuriatingly irritating?!

However, Ling Wei's quietness was short-lived.

Then, she... vomited.

The scene was extremely tragic at one point.

The observer (covering their eyes): dares not open their eyes, hoping it's just their imagination.

Previously, it was thought that Ling Wei might be acting out a "woman slightly drunk" situation, but who uses vomit as a prop?!
