Chapter 3 Rectification
Lin was also so surprised that she opened her mouth, followed by immense joy and heartache.
She quickly stepped forward and embraced Ling Wei, saying to the old lady, "Weiwei has truly kept her father's skills and teachings in mind. What she just said was absolutely right, every word a gem!"
His tone was full of pride and an eagerness to vindicate Ling Wei.
Gu Qingyu snorted and said disdainfully to Liu Yiyi, whose face had turned pale, "Ling Wei has a photographic memory. Even I don't know as much as she does. She's just a bit naive and easily led astray!"
I told you long ago that Liu Yiyi is no good person. She glared at Ling Wei, "You've been set up, haven't you?"
Ling Wei felt a little embarrassed by Gu Qingyu's glare and touched her nose.
After she arrived at the Gu family, she had many "sparring" sessions with the proud and arrogant Miss Gu. Gu Qingyu had also studied since childhood and considered herself to be exceptionally knowledgeable, but she was often completely defeated in front of Ling Wei.
Gu Qingyu studied diligently late into the night, but she still couldn't match the other person's talent.
She felt a little awkward and was trying to calm herself down when, unexpectedly, Ling Wei was taken advantage of by Liu Yiyi.
Ling Wei was unaware of her thoughts. Even if she had, she would have said, "Sis, your arrogance has faded away."
The fact that he has a photographic memory is something that shocks many people.
Ling Wei said apologetically, "Qingyu, you flatter me. I just have a better memory, it's not that exaggerated."
Seeing that this hurdle was almost over, the second madam's gaze shifted downwards and landed on Ling Wei's summer dress.
"Tsk tsk, no matter how well you study... it can't withstand someone dressed so scantily and with such a lively mind. Yan-ge, it's good that you're eager to learn, but you also need to keep your eyes open and not be misled by some 'colorful' things."
Seeing that the old lady's gaze was off again, Ling Wei blinked, looked at the second madam with an innocent and bewildered expression, and asked in a clear voice, "Second madam, is it... inappropriate for me to wear this?"
Get close and unleash your ultimate attack.
The second wife was speechless. There was nothing wrong with it, after all, the other person wasn't revealing anything; they were just wearing summer clothes.
Ling Wei looked around, then exclaimed "Ah!" as if suddenly realizing something, with a hint of grievance: "Second Madam, are you saying... I'm not dressed warmly enough?"
She raised her hand and touched her flushed cheeks with the back of her hand, then fanned herself with her sleeve, and whispered, "But I... I feel so hot."
Only then did everyone notice that Ling Wei's face was flushed and there was some fine sweat on her forehead.
Gu Qingyan couldn't help but chuckle, finally understanding why Ling Wei had been doing so many squats with that "hehehe" sound.
Lin took Ling Wei's hand and said, "Oh, this child, her hands are so warm. She really isn't afraid of the cold."
Ling Wei leaned closer to Madam Lin and explained softly, "Aunt, I've always had a hot constitution since I was little. My mother even took me to see a doctor when I was a child. The doctor said I was very healthy and had plenty of yang energy."
It's those who are particularly sensitive to cold who are diagnosed by the doctor as having a cold constitution and need treatment.
Liu Yiyi, who was wearing thick spring clothes to accentuate her figure and was now sweating slightly from the heat of the crowded library, was speechless.
After the group left, the study returned to silence.
Gu Qingyan slowly and deliberately put the book back on the bookshelf, walked to the table, picked up the slightly cool teacup, and took a sip with elegant posture.
Ling Wei moved closer to him, then took a small step back: "Thank you for today, cousin!"
She was still looking at him with bright, sparkling eyes; if she had a tail, it would be wagging wildly behind her.
"I still prefer my cousin!" she said with utmost sincerity.
Gu Qingyan's hand paused almost imperceptibly. He reluctantly put down his teacup and reminded her softly, "A gentleman's word is as good as his bond."
It means: You just promised not to bother me anymore.
Ling Wei chuckled, then straightened her expression: "Cousin, don't be afraid. Ling Wei is not one to go back on her word. Now I have truly realized my own feelings."
She gave a slight bow, her tone clear and solemn: "My feelings for my cousin are like those of a brother and sister, the respect and admiration a junior has for an elder, but absolutely not romantic love."
She straightened up, and her whole being felt relaxed and radiant.
She walked briskly towards the door, then turned back and smiled brightly at Gu Qingyan:
May my cousin find a good wife, live in harmony with his wife, and have a smooth career and a peaceful home!
Having said that, he didn't linger and disappeared lightly into the light and shadow outside the library.
Gu Qingyan lowered his eyes, looking at the long-gone traces of his figure on the ground. After a moment, he finally shook his head, a smile that even he himself did not notice appeared on his lips.
As soon as Ling Wei stepped out of the library, her personal maid, Xiao Yao, rushed up to her with red eyes.
She felt a pang of anxiety when she saw the old lady and her entourage heading aggressively toward the library.
She had a strong intuition that her daughter would be involved, and she wanted to rush in, but the librarian ruthlessly blocked her at the door.
She was so anxious that she paced around outside, her heart pounding in her throat.
"Miss, are you alright?" Xiao Yao's voice trembled with tears as she looked Ling Wei up and down. "I saw Miss Liu leave alone first, and she didn't look well... Inside... were they arguing inside? You scared me to death!"
When Liu Yiyi was instigating Ling Wei, she always kept it a secret and always presented a picture of sisterly affection in front of others. Therefore, Xiao Yao was unaware that her young lady had already fallen into a trap, but she instinctively sensed something was amiss.
Ling Wei gently comforted her, "We'll talk about it when we get back."
Back in her own courtyard, Ling Wei didn't hide anything and told her loyal wet nurse, Mama Li, and Xiao Yao everything that had happened in the library that day.
After hearing this, Xiaoyao's face turned red with anger, and tears streamed down her face.
"How could she be so vicious! The girl treated her like a confidante, she's truly heartless!" She stamped her feet, wishing she could go and confront Liu Yiyi immediately.
Madam Li clasped her hands together, chanting Amitabha Buddha repeatedly, tears streaming down her face: "It's all my fault! Miss, you've been pampered by your master and mistress since you were little, how could you have ever seen such despicable methods... It was my negligence that I failed to see through Miss Liu's venomous heart sooner, and I almost... almost harmed you!"
She felt extremely guilty, believing that she had failed to protect her master.
A warm feeling welled up in Ling Wei's heart, and she quickly comforted them gently, "Look, I'm perfectly fine, aren't I? Once bitten, twice shy. Let's all be more careful in the future." She held their hands and gently advised them.
Wiping away her tears, Madam Li looked at Ling Wei with heartache: "In this old servant's eyes, the young lady is perfect in every way! She will surely find a suitable husband and live a harmonious life together!"
Although she was grateful to Gu Qingyan for his help today, the thought of her young mistress being rejected like that still made her heart ache like it was being pricked by needles.
The three, master and servant, were comforting each other when a maidservant came to report that Madam Lin had arrived with her eldest daughter, Gu Qingyu.
Ling Wei understood immediately and quickly tidied herself up to greet him.
