Chapter 5 Dodging

Chapter 5 Dodging

Two attendants roughly searched the room, banging on the cabinet doors, while Secretary Sun stood quietly to the side, her expression calm and composed.

The search yielded nothing, and Team Leader Wang's face darkened.

Just as Secretary Sun was about to see the guest out, the other party suddenly stared at the window behind the sofa, his eyes sharpened, and he strode forward.

Secretary Sun stepped forward at the opportune moment, blocking his path with a respectful yet firm posture: "Team Leader Wang, it's windy outside, and the Director is not feeling well..."

"Get out of the way!" Team Leader Wang shoved him roughly.

Team Leader Wang leaned half his body out of the window, his sharp gaze sweeping over the windowsill and the air conditioner unit platform...

Right below his window, Ling Wei was pressed against the wall in a posture that tested her core strength to the extreme.

She stood firmly on the edge of the window, her back dangling in the air, maintaining her balance only by supporting herself with her hands on the windowsill above.

Her years of dance training allowed her to remain stable even in this dangerous position, and she even breathed very softly.

Seeing that Team Leader Wang was about to lean forward, Qu Mingyuan suddenly spoke up, his voice filled with suppressed gasps: "Secretary Sun... I really don't seem drunk. Please contact the hospital for a full checkup."

Just then, Team Leader Wang's phone rang, and his colleague whispered, "X...phone call."

Team Leader Wang answered the phone, and after listening to only a few sentences, his expression changed drastically.

He stiffly turned to look at Qu Mingyuan, who was calmly looking back at him with an all-knowing look in his eyes.

"It seems..." Qu Mingyuan nodded slightly, his tone gentle yet each word carrying immense weight, "Team Leader Wang has received more important instructions."

Team Leader Wang's face turned pale, and he finally managed to squeeze out three words through gritted teeth: "Let's go."

The investigation team left empty-handed.

As soon as the door closed, Secretary Sun breathed a sigh of relief.

Almost simultaneously, Qu Mingyuan suddenly stood up from the sofa, rushed to the window, and stretched his hand downwards.

A slightly cool hand grasped his wrist as it peered out the window.

Qu Mingyuan breathed a sigh of relief.

He looked down and met Ling Wei's face as she looked up from the edge of the platform.

The night outlined her delicate features, a few strands of wet hair clung to her cheeks, and despite her disheveled appearance, she curled her lips into a bright, star-like smile.

"Come on up!" Qu Mingyuan's heart tightened, and he tried to pull her up with all his might, but he was already exhausted, and the effects of the drug had not yet worn off, so his arms felt weak and sore.

Secretary Sun also realized what was happening and hurriedly stepped forward to help grab Ling Wei's other arm.

Ling Wei herself also tried her best to push off the rough surface of the outer wall with her toes, attempting to gain leverage.

Just as the stalemate reached its climax, a figure darted to the window like a gust of wind—it was Qu Chen, who had returned.

He turned back at almost the fastest speed he could ever go, the image of the person he'd glimpsed outside the window flashing through his mind. If someone had really died, his uncle...

The moment he rushed into the room, he saw two figures struggling to pull at the window.

Without a second thought, he darted forward, his hand reaching out to grab Ling Wei's slender upper arm. She used the force to push off the wall and leap up, but she couldn't stop in time, and the huge momentum caused both of them to lose their balance at the same time.

Qu Chen felt a soft, warm body bump into him, carrying a faint fragrance and the coolness of the night breeze. The two of them fell onto the carpet together.

When Qu Chen came to his senses, he found himself lying on his back on the ground, with the girl he had never looked at properly above him.

Her long, slightly wavy hair cascaded down like seaweed, creating a private space around their faces. Her flushed cheeks were faintly visible through the strands of hair, and her misty eyes were now meeting his gaze.

The hot breath exhaled by the other person hit his face repeatedly, like a small animal that had just finished a vigorous run, each breath filled with vibrant life force.

...

The understated black car drove smoothly through the traffic, an eerie silence permeating the interior, mixed with suppressed breathing.

In the back seat, Ling Wei bit her lower lip tightly, fine beads of sweat appearing on her forehead, and the unfamiliar heat in her body intensified.

Qu Mingyuan, standing beside her, was in even worse condition. His eyes were tightly closed, his brows were furrowed, his forehead was soaked with cold sweat, and his breathing was heavy, like a broken bellows. He still maintained his seated posture, but his taut jawline and slightly trembling arms betrayed the immense pain he was enduring.

Qu Chen, sitting in the passenger seat, had a face so gloomy it could drip water, and he exuded a low-pressure aura that kept strangers at bay.

Secretary Sun has just contacted Dr. Song, one of her own, who is already waiting at the designated internal medical point.

He had just hung up the phone when another call came in.

Secretary Sun answered the call, and upon hearing the report, her expression suddenly changed.

Qu Chen keenly noticed his unusual behavior and frowned as she glanced at him.

Secretary Sun hung up the phone, took a deep breath, and reported with a strained voice: "Director, the preliminary results of the drug test for that cup of tea are in... It's a new type of mixed drug on the market, and its effects are... very strong."

"Moreover, if this drug component remains in the body for a long time without being metabolized, it can cause irreversible damage to kidney function."

The air inside the carriage seemed to freeze instantly.

Secretary Sun added with difficulty, his voice so low it was almost inaudible: "The doctor said... the fastest and most effective way to relieve and metabolize the symptoms is..." He subconsciously glanced at the rearview mirror and saw Ling Wei's curled-up figure and Qu Mingyuan's desperately restrained expression. The rest of his words caught in his throat.

But fearing that his superiors might not understand the seriousness of the situation, he ultimately gritted his teeth and gave a vague yet clear hint: "Actually... you don't need two people... you can handle it yourself."

Qu Chen instantly understood what Secretary Sun meant. He clicked his tongue and said firmly to Secretary Sun, "Stop the car! We're all getting out!"

He even glanced at Ling Wei and said coldly, "Take her out too. Leave the car space for my uncle alone!"

"Keep going." Qu Mingyuan's hoarse but undeniable voice rang out, interrupting Qu Chen's instructions.

He didn't even open his eyes, as if those words that had just been enough to break anyone had nothing to do with him.

Secretary Sun immediately complied.

Qu Chen was momentarily speechless, then gave a sarcastic laugh: "Oh, as expected of someone who cares about the people, so selfless. However," he changed his tone, his voice sharp with sarcasm, "if only you had been more careful before you got infected."

Secretary Sun finally couldn't hold back and spoke up in defense: "Young Master Chen! The director... he knew today it might be a trap, but he still went because the other party specifically mentioned Miss Bai on the phone."

They said Miss Bai has a close relationship with the Qu family and they want to use that to their advantage… The director knows you value Miss Bai highly and don't want her to be implicated or have her reputation damaged because of the Qu family, which is why he decided to go there personally to try and take charge of the matter!”

Qu Chen pursed his lips, all the harsh words stuck in his throat, unable to come out.

He turned his head away, looking at the rapidly receding night view outside the window, his profile stiff.

“Xiao Chen,” Qu Mingyuan called out, his voice tired but still gentle, even with a hint of reassurance, “Miss Bai… is a tutor hired by the Qu family, she shouldn’t be involved in this. Don’t feel guilty about this.”

Even at a time like this, he was still considering Qu Chen's feelings.

Ling Wei listened clearly from the side. This woman truly cherished her nephew Qu Chen, even though she herself was in dire straits, she still thought about not leaving the child with any psychological trauma.

He could endure the grievance and extreme physical pain, but Ling Wei felt that her endurance was about to reach its limit.
