Chapter 37 Remaining Untainted by Mud (13)

The two of them squeezed together like that for the whole night.

Song Qi woke up early in the morning, and Meng Yilan had squeezed next to her at some point, with her hand on her body.

When they first went to sleep, they were using different blankets, but now the other person has broken into her bed and is trying to take all the blankets away.

She silently pushed Meng Yilan's hand away, put on her clothes, pushed open the door, glanced at Yuehong, and was about to speak when the other person already understood.

Everything proceeded quietly.

After tidying himself up, Song Qi left Meng Yilan's palace: "I'm going out for a walk. No need for anyone to follow me."

"Yes." Yuehong nodded.

Song Qi went straight back to his palace. There was no one inside, but everything had been cleaned up, and there was no indication of what had happened there before.

However, her sense of smell was keen, and she could still detect a faint smell of blood.

Song Qi took a deep breath, turned around and prepared to leave. When she reached the door, she saw Yata taking a walk, and she was all alone.

"So early?" Song Qi looked at Yata.

“You are too,” Yata glanced at the palace. “Don’t you live here anymore?”

"Once the palace maids are reassigned, they will be back in the next day or two. If you want to soak in the hot springs, you can come alone if you're not afraid."

"Forget it, if someone sees me coming alone, I don't know what they'll say." Yata twitched the corner of her mouth.

Song Qi said helplessly, "Then I'll have someone invite you when I get back."

The two of them strolled slowly along the path.

"Doesn't it snow here?" Yata asked, looking up at the sky.

It was still dark.

"I don't remember." Song Qi also looked up, just like her, but there was nothing in the sky.

“Oh,” Yata drawled, “I almost forgot, you haven’t spent much time here either.”

Song Qi glanced at Yata: "Have you had breakfast?"

“No.” Yata lowered her head and rubbed her neck. “But I don’t want to eat with you either. Go back and eat with your queen.”

Song Qi didn't respond, but changed the subject: "Would you like to go take a look at the pavilion in the middle of the lake?"

"Go ahead, there's nothing else to do anyway."

"After you go back, you can come and challenge me to a duel."

The two walked onto the wooden bridge, which was covered with a thin layer of ice.

Be careful.

“I don’t need you to remind me.” Yata raised her chin slightly, but the next second she slipped. Song Qi turned around and grabbed her arm, pulling her up abruptly.

Yata pursed her lips, her face instantly burning.

She pulled her arm away, a little awkwardly, and said, "Thank you."

Be careful.

Yatta: ...

"Um."

Meng Yilan stood by the riverbank not far away, watching the two people in this direction.

Although their expressions were not clearly visible, their movements were still discernible.

She blinked, bit her lip, and took a deep breath.

Song Qi sensed something and glanced in a certain direction, but the shadows of the trees were too thick to see anything.

She didn't look at it any further.

She brought a sword with her, and Yata is capable of protecting herself. If anything goes wrong, she can still escape.

Originally, Song Qi had envisioned that they could sit on the stool for a while or something.

Later, we discovered that the benches here were all made of stone and were as cold as ice.

The wind on the lake was still quite strong, so I stood there for a few minutes.

The two of them silently retreated.

“It’s not safe here right now, you’d better bring two people with you,” Song Qi said.

Yata showed little interest: "It's useless. If someone wants to kill me, having someone around me won't help."

"I can return the knife to you when we get back."

Yata paused for a moment, then glanced at Song Qi: "Didn't they say that such sharp weapons are not allowed in the palace?"

"You actually believed that?"

Yatta: ...

"Why are you giving it back to me?"

"You're only nineteen, not old enough to die yet."

Yata laughed: "So, someone really wants to kill me?"

"I'm just telling you to protect yourself, don't overthink it." Song Qi frowned. "I'm going back."

"Hmm." Yata nodded. "Should I bow to you?"

"No need." Song Qi looked at the faint smile on Yata's face. "Goodbye."

After Song Qi left, Meng Yilan quickly turned onto another path.

Yata turned and glanced in a certain direction.

Song Qi had just returned to the palace and sat down when Meng Yilan walked in, bringing with her a biting wind; her face was red from the cold.

"Where did you go?"

"I went to look for you, but I couldn't find you." Meng Yilan looked at Song Qi with a wronged expression. "I found you were gone when I woke up this morning..."

Song Qi: ...

"I'm just going out for a walk. You got up late, so I can't just wake you up directly." Song Qi poured a glass of water and pushed it in front of Meng Yilan.

"It's so dark outside."

"I'm used to it." Song Qi took Meng Yilan's hand, frowned, and glanced at her. "You just went out like that?"

"Hmm." Meng Yilan didn't know what she was anxious about. She didn't see Song Qi when she woke up in the morning, and she felt inexplicably flustered.

"Don't come crying to me if you get frostbite."

Meng Yilan glanced at her hands, a little frightened by Song Qi's words: "Do you get frostbite?"

"Yes, but it didn't grow this year, probably because there was no wind." Song Qi rubbed his hands together and glanced at Meng Yilan. "It's very uncomfortable, and I don't think you would want to experience it."

“It won’t happen again, but you have to tell me if you’re leaving next time.” Meng Yilan looked at Song Qi. “You just went out alone like that. Even though you’re very capable, I’m still scared.”

"I understand." Song Qi pinched Meng Yilan's cheek, then withdrew his hand.

She thought back to when she was at the pavilion in the middle of the lake.

It looks like someone is standing behind the tree watching me.

However, if Meng Yilan says it's not her, then it's not her.

It doesn't matter who's watching.

Upon arriving here, the breakfast menu has changed.

Song Qi wasn't picky and ate quite a lot.

After breakfast, they heard the palace maids outside cheering with delight.

It's snowing.

"Shall we go out and take a look once the snow piles up?"

"Okay." Song Qi nodded.

Yaofeng had already dashed off, looking very excited.

Recently, Song Qi has basically let Yaofeng roam freely. This thing is very smart, it won't bite people, and it knows the way.

Just as Song Qi reached the doorway, Yao Feng suddenly appeared from some corner and pounced on it.

Over the past few months, it has grown considerably larger and heavier.

"If this keeps up, I might not be able to carry you anymore." Song Qi rubbed Yao Feng's head.

Meng Yilan glanced at Song Qi.

The snow didn't pile up after all; it only snowed for a short while before stopping.

It quickly melted into a puddle of snow water, which turned black after being trampled by many people.

Meng Yilan was slightly disappointed.

"Want to soak in a hot spring?" Meng Yilan suddenly thought of something, turned her head to look at Song Qi, and her eyes showed a hint of excitement.

Song Qi paused while stroking Yao Feng's hand: "You can take a soak."

Let's go together.

Song Qi didn't think anything was wrong: "Okay."

"I'll have someone prepare some food and put it nearby," Meng Yilan said.

Song Qi glanced at Meng Yilan, sensing that she seemed quite excited.

The pool on Meng Yilan's side was a bit larger than the one on Song Qi's side.

White mist drifted up from the water and filled the entire room.

Meng Yilan heard the sound of someone entering the water on the other side, but she couldn't see the person.

She took a deep breath, went into the water, and hummed comfortably.

"General, where are you?" Meng Yilan called out, slowly moving forward.

Upon hearing Meng Yilan's voice, Song Qi grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the edge of the pool: "This pool is quite deep, don't wander around."

"Hmm..." Meng Yilan responded vaguely, glancing at Song Qi. The water was just above her chest, and with the smoke filling the air, she couldn't see anything.

Song Qi picked up the fruit that was placed on the small table on the shore.

She didn't know the names of these fruits either; some she had never even seen before.

The taste was pretty good, though.

"Want some?" Song Qi handed one over.

Meng Yilan took it, nodded haphazardly, and took a bite.

"hiss."

"It's so sour."

Song Qi glanced at the fruit in his hand: "I think it's alright."

Meng Yilan glanced at Song Qi, then at the fruit, and tentatively took another small bite.

It is indeed very sour.

"Probably because yours is sweet." Meng Yilan tossed the fruit aside, then impulsively leaned over to Song Qi's hand and took a bite.

It's still quite sour, but also a little sweet.

A different kind of sweetness.

The two were very close; if Meng Yilan moved forward and up a little more, she could touch the other's lips.

She looked up at Song Qi.

There was no particular emotion in the other person's eyes, and my mischievous thoughts immediately vanished.

Song Qi didn't move; she could clearly feel the softness pressing against her arm.

Time seemed to stretch on at that moment.

"Yours tastes better." Meng Yilan pretended nothing was wrong and stepped back.

"Is that so?" Song Qi looked away.

Meng Yilan took a deep breath, feeling that Song Qi's question carried another meaning.

Thinking about what he had just done, his face instantly turned bright red.

She felt that she was becoming increasingly bold.

Meng Yilan glanced at Song Qi again, then sat down directly into the pool.

Song Qi was startled by Meng Yilan's sudden movement, looking at her black hair floating on the water.

She took another piece of fruit.

Meng Yilan originally wanted to bury herself to calm down, but after getting into the water, she was even less able to calm down.

Why did she invite Song Qi to go to the hot springs with her?!

Meng Yilan emerged from the water and met Song Qi's probing eyes.

"What's wrong?"

"What's wrong?" Song Qi had already eaten five fruits. She glanced at Meng Yilan's face and could see the tiny water droplets clinging to the other's eyelashes. "Your face is very red."

“Your face is red too,” Meng Yilan said.

It was so quiet around her that she could clearly hear her own heartbeat, and now she just hoped that Song Qi couldn't hear it.

"If you're not feeling well, go out as soon as possible."

"I feel perfectly comfortable, not uncomfortable at all," Meng Yilan emphasized. "I've only been soaking for a short while."

"I'm just reminding you."

Song Qi wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt that Meng Yilan looked a little better than before.

Song Qi raised his hand and rubbed Meng Yilan's face.

Meng Yilan was startled by Song Qi's sudden action and looked at him with some confusion.

Did you put on makeup?

Meng Yilan: ? ? ?
