"I want to see your face," Song Qi said.
The initially agitated people calmed down. Having followed Song Qi for so long, they all knew what kind of person she was. If there wasn't some problem, she wouldn't be acting like this.
The men below raised their guns and aimed them at Song Qi.
An uproar erupted around them.
"Just follow me when I tell you to leave. Why make things so complicated?"
Song Qi stared at him: "Have your highest-level zombies evolved to this extent yet?"
The surrounding crowd erupted in uproar.
"What nonsense are you spouting!"
"I recently awakened a special ability that allows me to borrow the eyes of zombies. You are a point that can be used in my eyes."
The man pulled the trigger, but Song Qi didn't move; the bullet grazed her head.
He was somewhat incredulous, and the others began to take action.
Song Qi's lightning bolt had already struck towards his head, revealing his face.
His face was pockmarked and uneven, clearly the face of a zombie. He tried to cover it with his hand, but it had already been seen.
"Leave the one who showed his face, kill the rest."
The bullets began to spray bullets, but they were all shattered by Song Qi and even bounced back.
This battle came even more easily than the last time a horde of zombies came.
They also seized four armored vehicles, but Song Qi didn't dare bring them in directly. He had the vehicles thoroughly inspected.
The advanced zombie that could already talk was taken away by Song Qi, while the other corpses were sent to the laboratory.
Song Qi held the rope as if he were pulling a dog.
The zombie followed behind Song Qi, cursing and swearing.
"You will be punished!"
"Our master will not let you get away with this!"
"Shut up." Song Qi turned around and glared at the zombie who had spoken.
As they walked along, many people saw this strange man, and the news spread quickly after those who went to the front lines returned.
On the one hand, they were terrified by the speed at which the zombies were evolving; on the other hand, after learning that Song Qi had awakened his second superpower, the base's personal worship of Song Qi reached its peak.
Song Qi led the zombies to the small room, and Bai Yanxi and Fan Yao followed them in.
"Who is the owner you're talking about?" Song Qi casually tied it to the iron frame next to him.
The zombie stared at Song Qi without saying a word.
Song Qi stared at the zombie and used his special ability again: "I've always been curious about how many uses my special ability has. I'm grateful that one that doesn't bite randomly has appeared in front of me."
"Who told you I couldn't..." Before the zombie could finish speaking, it screamed, began to struggle, and collapsed to the ground, writhing in agony.
Song Qi raised an eyebrow. She wasn't feeling well either, but perhaps because the zombie was relatively close to her, she didn't feel as bad as before.
"Tsk." Song Qi lifted his foot and touched his face. "Tell me, who is your master?"
The zombie spoke haltingly, but still managed to utter a name: "Cao Yan."
Song Qi wanted to ask something, but the next second, the zombie's brain exploded.
Unable to dodge in time, she instinctively grabbed Fan Yao, who was beside her, and used him as a shield in front of her.
Bai Yanxi was not affected because he was standing further back. Song Qi blocked most of the damage, but Fan Yao was covered in filth.
Fan Yao: ...
Song Qi let go of his hand: "Sorry."
Fan Yao turned around and glanced at Song Qi, feeling a bit angry, but looking at Song Qi's face, he couldn't bring himself to be angry.
"Why did it suddenly explode?" Bai Yanxi pulled Song Qi over, wiped the dirt off his clothes, frowned, and looked somewhat disgusted.
“I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I didn’t control my powers well. Cao Yan… who is this person?” Song Qi asked.
Fan Yao just wanted to take a shower: "He seems to be an entrepreneur from City A. I'm going to take a shower now, and I'll come find you later."
Song Qi glanced at the things on the ground, then at Bai Yanxi. She remembered that the other party didn't really like this kind of scene.
She used her powers to clean the ground, went outside, and took a shower herself.
Bai Yanxi tugged at Song Qi's sleeve: "What exactly is your new superpower?"
"I haven't quite figured it out myself, but I just discovered that I seem to... be able to control zombies," Song Qi said in a low voice.
Bai Yanxi's eyes widened: "My God."
“But it’s too difficult to train.” Song Qi frowned. She felt that if she practiced too much, she would explode like the zombie she had just experienced.
Song Qi was feeling unwell and did not attend the meeting that evening; Fan Yao replaced him.
Many students from City A still remember Cao Yan.
Song Qi glanced at the information he had gathered and saw that Cao Yan presented a very good image in public.
He is a conscientious entrepreneur and philanthropist who has built many houses in mountainous areas and donates a certain amount of money to the country and schools every year.
Song Qi tapped the table, and a talented art student drew a portrait of Cao Yan.
She felt a little sentimental.
Song Qi put the things away.
They live in City C, which is a long distance from City A.
But barring any unforeseen circumstances, I will indeed need to make a trip to City A.
She and Fan Yao are the male and female protagonists of this world, and only the two of them can solve this problem.
Unable to receive any news from the outside world, Song Qi was somewhat agitated.
She noticed that many people in the base were showing signs of burnout, and with the land being cleared and wood-type ability users able to grow various crops, they became even more complacent.
Song Qi didn't really like this atmosphere.
So she called another meeting.
Everyone has arrived.
Song Qi stood on a metal platform, holding a megaphone: "It's been a long time since we had a meeting, and I've noticed that everyone has become quite lax lately."
“We are doing well now, but we don’t know how long we can keep going like this.”
"As you all saw last time, just as I predicted, zombies will evolve to be similar to humans in the future. They will look similar to humans, but they will be superior to humans in terms of physical strength, eyesight, hearing, and other aspects."
"We can now confirm that they are controlled by someone behind the scenes, and this disaster was man-made, but we do not yet know the specific purpose."
"Last time I went to find supplies, I went to the S base near the university town. It was full of zombies."
“Based on my judgment, they would never be friendly to humans. The people who came with me to deal with those things last time should have been able to sense that as well,” Song Qi said.
"If nothing unexpected happens, I'll go to City A in a while to see what's going on outside. We're all from top universities, so just getting by isn't what we should be doing."
“I can’t leave in peace with you all like this.” Song Qi frowned. “I will be taking about thirty people with me. I will post the list of the people I want to take later. If you don’t want to go, you can come and tell me. This trip to City A is very risky. Please think it over carefully.”
After Song Qi finished speaking, the meeting adjourned.
After the list was posted, many people went to see it.
Many people widened their eyes upon noticing the person Song Qi wanted to take away.
"She also wanted to take Fan Yao away."
"And Chen Xi."
"It seems that several people with advanced superpowers will be taken away."
What will we do after they leave?
“They have no obligation to protect you all the time, otherwise they wouldn’t have kept pushing you to train hard and learn all sorts of self-defense techniques.” Qu Nannan felt relieved to see her name on the list.
The others didn't know what to say either.
“Besides, they’ve already done enough,” Qu Nannan said. “If it weren’t for her, I feel like I might have died in my dorm.”
Everyone here is a reasonable person. After Qu Nannan finished speaking, the others understood and could not say anything more.
Song Qi has indeed done enough.
They can now turn on the lights at night, play single-player games on their phones, and go to the library to read books or play basketball on the playground when they're bored. Some people even write and share their work via Bluetooth.
None of the thirty people told Song Qi they wouldn't go.
Song Qi was somewhat surprised and held a special meeting that evening to reiterate the dangers of this section of the road.
"Oh, don't try to persuade us anymore. We've thought it through. So be it. I want to know the truth. I don't want to be trapped here forever."
"Yes, I feel like this time has been given to me by heaven. If it weren't for you, I might have died long ago."
"Besides, didn't you go too? We've held out for so long with so few casualties. Everyone's abilities have improved, and we have armored vehicles too. Nothing will happen."
"You just like to exaggerate things."
Song Qi looked at everyone talking at once and said helplessly, "In that case, we'll leave on the first of next month. I hope everyone will practice hard for the remaining two weeks. My second ability... will be very useful later, and it probably won't appear again for a while."
"Keep it up!"
Everyone smiled.
Song Qi began to challenge the limits of his psychic abilities. Others couldn't see it, but Bai Yanxi could. Every day, she would watch Song Qi's face turn pale one moment and then flushed red the next. She always felt that one day Song Qi would just explode.
She panicked.
Song Qi suffers from splitting headaches every day after using his superpower.
Bai Yanxi wanted to stop him, but he couldn't. All he could do was massage Song Qi's head every night.
She sat on the bed, moved Song Qi's head onto her lap, and gently pressed it.
Song Qi pursed her lips and took a deep breath.
"You're pushing yourself too hard." Bai Yanxi frowned. According to the plot, she should be the main force, Fan Yao's right-hand woman, but now she was the one being protected. "Actually, I can do it too,"
Song Qi didn't open his eyes: "Don't you dislike bloody things?"
"But I can endure it."
"If you don't need to endure it, why force you to endure it?"
Bai Yanxi smiled.
"Host, when are you going to start following the storyline?" The system NP was very unhappy with the interaction between the two.
No one noticed that Song Qi's eyelids suddenly twitched.
“I’ve become good brothers with the male lead, but the female lead doesn’t like him. I inexplicably ran over to explain and told her that the male lead and I are just brothers. Don’t you think that’s a bit strange?” Bai Yanxi said.
The system NP was somewhat speechless.
Song Qi raised his hand and grasped Bai Yanxi's hand.
Bai Yanxi paused for a moment, looking at Song Qi with some confusion.
Song Qi didn't speak; she had just tried using her special ability on Bai Yanxi.
Then, she heard the system's voice.
"What's wrong?"
Song Qi remained silent, and his mental energy invaded once again.
