Everyone was speechless.
Humanity's current situation is too difficult; every choice must be based on the continuation of the species.
Joining forces with a powerful race is indeed a poor choice, but it is also the most effective method.
"Then which race should we ally with?"
A new question arose spontaneously.
"They're the divine race, I suppose. They seem to be the strongest among the six races."
"The divine race resides on Mount Targon, which is far from here. We can only migrate there little by little."
"This is the only way."
The group finalized their plan.
For the sake of the continuation of their race, they temporarily relinquished their status.
After all, the race has been wiped out, so talking about anything else is just nonsense.
Several years later.
After overcoming numerous hardships and losing a large number of people, humanity finally reached the foot of Mount Targon.
Looking at the towering mountains beyond the starry sky, everyone's faces turned pale.
We've arrived, but how do we get up there?
“I will go up the mountain, and you will settle at the foot of the mountain. This is the territory of the divine race. Other races dare not cause trouble here, so you don’t have to hide here as before.”
The leader gave instructions.
"Chief, let's go together. More people means we can look out for each other."
The others quickly added.
"No need. More people may not be better. If something unexpected happens, we'll have to abandon the burden. I'll go alone."
The leader politely declined.
He then gave a series of instructions regarding his final affairs. He felt that the journey ahead was fraught with danger, but for the sake of the continuation of the human race, he, as the leader, had to take the lead.
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, the leader embarked on his ascent to the summit.
Spring passes and autumn comes.
The cycle repeats itself.
It has been three years since the leader took office and ascended to the summit.
Thanks to the deterrent power of the divine race, no other race dares to fight here, so the humans who have settled at the foot of Mount Targon have been living a peaceful life that they could not have dreamed of in the past.
After their previous leader had been absent for a year, they elected a new leader.
It's not that humans don't want to go to Mount Targon to look for traces of the previous leader.
They had searched many times, but with their strength, they could only climb tens of thousands of meters before exhaustion.
However, the summit is nowhere in sight at an altitude of tens of thousands of meters, and the towering Mount Colossus is like an insurmountable barrier that makes people hesitate to approach it.
The structure of Mount Targon is that it becomes steeper as you go up. Tens of thousands of meters can be climbed with just your feet, but beyond that, you have to climb it by hand.
Helpless, humanity could only return empty-handed time and time again, and as time went by, people accepted the death of the previous leader.
So, following the instructions of the previous leader, a new leader was chosen.
The new leader led humanity to continue living at the foot of Mount Targon, a rare safe haven for them.
Halfway up Mount Targon.
The incumbent leader was struggling to climb.
After three years of climbing, he still hadn't seen the summit, and the towering mountains beyond the starry sky filled him with despair.
But despair was useless; he could only rely on his willpower to keep climbing, and climbing again.
His fingers were raw and bloody from digging, but he still kept climbing upwards.
Actually, there was one thing he didn't understand: according to the human body, he should have died a week into the climb.
Even now, no one knows how much time has passed, but he is still stubbornly alive, miraculously surviving even without a drop of water or food.
A surge of power within him propelled him forward.
So he stopped thinking about it and continued his climbing journey.
The summit of Mount Targon.
"Hmph, you've all lost. This human has persisted for three years without giving up."
"I really don't understand what he's insisting on, and damn it, he made me lose the bet!"
"The outcome of this bet now depends on which of you three gods guesses correctly."
"Damn it, if you hadn't suggested using force to ensure the opponent's survival, this human probably wouldn't have lasted a month. I wouldn't have lost then, so let's start over!"
One of the divine beings was not convinced.
"But everyone agreed to it, so there's nothing you can do about it."
"I think this human will give up after another three years."
"I guess ten years."
"No matter how you guess, three years is already his limit. I can't guess that the other party will give up in a year."
......
The former leader had no idea that he had become a bettor of the supreme deities.
He persevered and climbed to the top.
Even with his palms raw and bloody, even with the cold wind making his eyes blurry, he still climbed upwards regardless of everything for the sake of humanity and his race.
Three years after three years.
As time passed, a solitary figure clung to the surface of the towering mountain like an ant.
The ant slowly climbed upwards, inching its way up by the smallest of margins.
If you don't count the days, you can't even see the ants moving.
Only with the passage of time can one see that the ant is indeed moving upwards.
The gods atop the mountain fell silent.
They never imagined that this human being possessed such tenacity; thirty years have passed since he climbed to the top.
They initially thought the other party could only hold on for three years, but they never expected that so many three-year periods would pass and the other party would still be persisting.
"We underestimated this new species..."
The divine species redefines the human species.
Although this species is weak, its will should not be underestimated.
"Although we assured him he wouldn't die along the way, he was already exhausted and his life force was severely depleted, which is a pity."
Looking at the other person's position, thirty years of climbing had only taken them less than halfway up Mount Targon.
The gods sighed; willpower was useless, the fundamental strength of the race was the key.
On the mountainside of Mount Targon.
The newly appointed leader's upward-pointing hand froze.
Then an uncontrollable feeling of powerlessness washed over me.
His hands and feet, which were clinging to the mountainside, suddenly loosened, and his body began to fall from above.
The leader smiled bitterly, gazing at the mountains receding into the distance, hating his own powerlessness.
"I have let everyone down..."
This was his last thought before he died.
In the next instant, a force transformed it into a stream of light that reached the summit.
That unattainable peak for him could be reached with a mere wave of his hand by the power of the divine species.
"Your time is short, your soul will soon dissipate. Speak your wish."
All around were towering deities who gazed down upon the tiny humans.
Upon hearing this, the leader immediately regained his senses: "We pray that the gods will protect us humans, and we humans are willing to submit to the divine race."
The gods looked at each other, not wanting to get involved in such troublesome matters. Letting this human see them before he died was nothing to them.
“Our divine race does not need subordinate races, so let’s change our request.”
The divine races have no desire to be babysitters, and they are already powerful enough that they do not need the submission of a weak race.
The leader, disheartened, pleaded one last time, "Could the humans temporarily reside at the foot of Mount Targon?"
The deity was silent for a moment before saying, "Alright, if your climb hadn't been incomplete, we would have driven away those humans at the foot of the mountain long ago. Your will has moved us, so we grant your request."
The leader breathed a sigh of relief, his soul slowly dissipating, and finally said thank you.
How truly pathetic! Even in his final moments, the leader understood everything. The protection his body had received earlier was the work of these divine beings.
He probably did it out of interest, or perhaps he wanted to see him make a fool of himself, but in the end he could only suppress his anger and fight for the last bit of benefit for his race.
The leader felt he had gained something by exchanging his worthless life for a peaceful place to live among humans.
