Chapter 18 "I'll take this job."

Chapter 18 "I'll take this job."

The phone vibrated on the table, and the screen lit up, displaying a new message from Z.AI. Chu Yi, who was writing a medical record, glanced at it and clicked it.

The message was brief and got straight to the point: "Doctor Chu, is tomorrow afternoon free for me? I'm here to remove the stitches."

Finally, it's here. Chu Yi breathed a sigh of relief. This state of suspense could finally be over.

He replied succinctly: "Sure. After 3:00 PM, in the emergency surgery clinic."

The message was sent successfully. He was about to put down his phone to continue working when the screen lit up again and the notification tone rang.

This time it was not text, but pictures one after another, flooding in like a screen full of pictures.

Chu Yi clicked on it and was greeted by a dazzling array of colorful bags filled with various flavors of potato chips, all from the Golden brand. They filled the entire chat interface. There were original, barbecue, tomato, lime, and even some rather bizarre limited edition flavors.

The image bombing finally stopped, followed by a text message and an animated emoticon package:

[Doctor Chu, which flavor do you like? ]

[A puppy smugly wagging its tail and looking down on others.gif]

Chu Yi looked at the pile of high-fat and high-salt puffed foods and that arrogant emoticon pack, and frowned slightly.

He patiently replied as politely and clearly as possible: "I don't really like potato chips. Thank you for your kindness."

The hint should be obvious enough - if you don't need it, don't bring it.

However, Zhou Ai's reading comprehension ability was obviously taught by the same master as Cheng Yingzhi.

The other party completely ignored his refusal and sent another close-up picture with the words "Extra strong butter cheese flavor" written on it.

[Do you like this butter cheese? This looks good.]

Chu Yi looked at this conclusion, which was entirely based on his own imagination, and for a moment he didn't know how to respond. He stared at the screen in silence, his fingertips pausing above the keyboard, and finally typed out a string of ellipsis: [.......]

He hoped that this string of symbols could convey his speechlessness and his repeated, powerless rejection.

Unfortunately, the signal received by the other party seems to be completely the opposite.

Zhou Ai's message came immediately, his tone was firm, even with a hint of "look how considerate I am":

[Okay, I'll bring it to you tomorrow.]

Chu Yi looked at the line of words, holding the phone, completely stunned.

In an instant, all the confusions were answered.

Why Cheng Yingzhi and Zhou Ai have become like-minded childhood friends for more than ten years.

Why did Cheng Yingzhi inexplicably ask him whether Zhou Ai had "harassed" him.

Why were these two people always able to accurately ignore the true meaning of his words and continue to run wildly along their own bizarre train of thought...

It turns out the root cause is here!

They are selective in receiving, and have a strange ability to automatically translate all rejections and denials into "reluctant to say yes" or "too embarrassed to agree directly"!

A deep realization, mixed with absurdity and powerlessness, overwhelmed Chu Yi like a tide.

Drowned the "i" person Chu Yi.

He put down his phone, raised his hand and pressed his throbbing solar plexus, then politely replied with two words: "Thank you."

————

Xu Yang pushed the door open and was almost drowned by the pile of various Golden potato chip bags on the sofa.

He stared at this colorful spectacle in amazement, exclaiming, "Holy crap, Brother Zhou, are you wholesale potato chips and planning to live off them?"

Zhou Ai ignored him and continued to stare at the screen of his mobile phone, with a very bright smile on his lips, like a cat that had stolen something fishy.

On the screen was Chu Yi's string of ellipsis marks [.......] that were full of speechlessness and choking, followed by the seemingly compromising but actually on the verge of collapse sentence [Thank you].

Zhou Ai seemed to be able to see through the screen how the usually calm Dr. Chu was caught off guard by his completely unprepared potato chip bombardment, with a frown on his face. Maybe even a faint blush of helplessness would appear on his cold pale face.

Just thinking about this scene made him feel good.

"Such a creepy laugh..." Xu Yang's back felt creepy from his laughter. He rubbed his arms and decided to get down to business first. He handed over the tablet he was holding and opened a file. "Here, there's a new notebook. Take a look and see if you're interested."

Zhou Ai lazily lifted his eyelids and glanced at the title on the screen - "Project Plan for the "Heart to the Distant Mountains" Public Welfare Documentary Reality Show (Season 1)".

"Variety show?" He leaned back with a lack of interest, his fingers unconsciously swiping through the chat interface with Chu Yi again, and said perfunctorily, "Not interested. You know I'm too lazy to act with those people."

Xu Yang had expected this reaction.

Zhou Ai's entry into the entertainment industry was purely a matter of fate and his own quirky "experience" interests. He has no particular interest in hype, exposure, or money, choosing his work entirely based on his mood. Variety shows are a frequent target on his blacklist, as he considers them fake and a waste of time.

"Don't be so quick to deny it," Xu Yang quickly scrolled through the pages and pointed out the core content to him. "This is different. It's not one of those idiotic variety shows where you play games. Look, it's about going to a remote mountain village and providing free medical treatment with local rural doctors. It's a kind of public welfare documentary about medical treatment, quite interesting. And..."

Xu Yang paused, observing Zhou Ai's expression, and cautiously mentioned a name: "I heard that among the candidates for 'flying doctors' that the program team is contacting... there seems to be Doctor Chu Yi."

The finger swiping the screen suddenly stopped.

Zhou Ai's originally scattered gaze instantly focused, moving away from the mobile phone screen and falling back on the tablet computer, and the lazy expression on his face faded.

Zhou Ai snatched up the tablet, his fingers swiping across the pages with swift precision. He no longer just glanced at the title, but instead read through the descriptions of the program format, location, and especially the responsibilities of the "flying doctors" word for word. His expression of concentration was even more intense than when he was reading his own concert plan.

Xu Yang watched from the side, his heart skipping a beat, thinking to himself: There's hope! Sure enough, bringing out this big Buddha statue of Doctor Chu is more effective than anything else!

Zhou Ai quickly finished browsing, raised his head, and his eyes were surprisingly bright. The impatience he had just had had disappeared.

He pointed at the entry for "Flight Doctor" and said with unquestionable certainty, "Is this flight doctor really him?"

"Uh... maybe 70 to 80 percent. I heard that the project leader has some connection with Young Master Cheng and strongly recommended him. It seems that Doctor Chu himself... is not completely opposed to it?" Xu Yang tried his best to leave room for maneuver in his words, for fear that if it was not true, this ancestor would turn against him on the spot.

Zhou Ai stared at the lines of words, tapped the name "Chu Yi" with his fingertips, and suddenly laughed. There was a wildness and playfulness in that smile that was determined to win.

"Okay." He threw the tablet back to Xu Yang decisively, sank back into the sofa, grabbed a bag of butter and cheese-flavored potato chips, opened it, and took a bite. His movements were as casual as if he was deciding where to go for a drink tonight.

"I'll take this job."

Xu Yang: “…”

Although the goal was achieved, why did he always feel that... the reason why Zhou Ai agreed to take on this charity variety show seemed to have nothing to do with the word "charity"?
