Chapter 69 The Unforgettable White Moonlight

Chapter 69 The Unforgettable White Moonlight

"Let me go! I'm not going to the hospital, let me go! You two violent gorillas!"

"I don't want to go to the hospital! Ahhhhhh—help!"

Gu Ze gripped the large iron gate of his villa tightly with both hands, clinging to the openwork railing like a koala.

Behind him, Matsuda Jinpei was grabbing his arms and pulling him away with all his might, while Hagiwara Kenji was trying to pry open Gu Ze's fingers that were gripping the iron bar.

"Let me go! You bastard!"

"You've had a fever for two days now. If you don't go to the hospital soon, you might burn yourself silly." Kenji Hagiwara pried open Gu Ze's right hand and then quickly clamped it down. "If Professor Agasa hadn't told me, we wouldn't have known!"

A short while later, Kenji Hagiwara lifted Gu Ze by his hands, and Jinpei Matsuda lifted Gu Ze by his legs, and they carried him into the car as if he were a corpse.

"Hospitals aren't scary. I really don't understand why you don't like going to the hospital?" At this moment, Gu Ze stopped resisting and slumped in the back seat as if resigned to his fate. Matsuda Jinpei used the seat belt to restrain him.

A sickly blush spread across Gu Ze's baby face, and his once bright almond-shaped eyes were now glazed over, as if he had been gone for quite some time.

Seeing his miserable state, Kenji Hagiwara touched his forehead. "Hey, your temperature has gone down."

"If it goes down, then we don't need to go to the hospital, right? I'll be fine in a bit..." Gu Ze straightened up and began to persuade the two of them again.

"Baka! You shut up! Behave yourself!" Matsuda Jinpei gritted his teeth in anger, got into the driver's seat, and slammed the door shut.

Kenji Hagiwara looked at his angry childhood friend and smiled without saying a word. In order to take better care of Gu Ze, Kenji Hagiwara chose to sit in the back with him. As soon as he sat down, he saw a wad of scrap paper at his feet. When he unfolded it, he saw that it was a newspaper.

"Hey, Jinpei, why did you crumple the newspaper so much?" Kenji Hagiwara asked, somewhat puzzled.

"It makes me so angry! Just look at it, it's on the front page." Matsuda Jinpei honked the horn hard, as if venting his anger.

Upon hearing this, Kenji Hagiwara's gaze shifted to the crumpled newspaper, and he scanned it line by line.

The most eye-catching headline was a sensational one: "The evil behind the hospital is the incompetence of the Japanese police!"

It was probably a report about that kidnapping case. I remember that Mizushima Jiro was later arrested, and the XX private hospital was thoroughly investigated, except that Kuraki Koori was still at large. Hagiwara Kenji thought he should continue reading.

The first part of the report described the disappearances of multiple people and the organ trafficking incident at a private hospital a few days ago. The article was detailed, well-supported by evidence, and clearly organized. Upon reading this, Kenji Hagiwara frowned.

Currently, the police have not released detailed information about the case. How did the author of this report come to know so much about it?

As Kenji Hagiwara continued reading, the second half of the report sharply criticized the incompetence of the Japanese police, using various examples and presenting a range of viewpoints in a very logical and persuasive manner, which even made Kenji Hagiwara, a police officer, waver in his agreement.

After finishing reading, Kenji Hagiwara read out the signature at the end of the article: "Go-kart".

Well, it's a very funny name, but his strength is undeniable.

“I know this person. He suddenly appeared a month ago, and his reports have exposed the evil secrets of many industries. He claims to be a ‘practitioner of justice’ and has gained a lot of followers.”

Kenji Hagiwara continued, "I heard that someone wanted to investigate him, but couldn't find anything. This person's background must be extraordinary."

The ever-increasing speed of the car indicated that Matsuda Jinpei was still angry.

"Haha, Jinpei, don't be angry. Didn't you say that before?" Hagiwara Kenji mimicked Matsuda Jinpei's tone, "'The Metropolitan Police Department's police are all useless...'"

"The past is the past, the present is the present, and things are different!"

Sunglasses concealed Matsuda Jinpei's expression, and a sentence drifted into Hagiwara Kenji's ears, causing Kenji to pause slightly, "This is the profession that Kurosawa-nii loves, the profession for which he would give anything! I can't let others..."

The two remained silent for a long time. Suddenly, Gu Ze, who had been pretending to be dead, began to groan.

"Um, Matsuda... Matsuda... you're driving too fast! I'm starting to..."

"What do you want to do! Baka! Don't vomit on my car!" This was Matsuda Jinpei's sharp shout.

"yue~~~yue~~~"

"No!!! My clothes!!!" This was Kenji Hagiwara's wail.

That afternoon, Kenji Hagiwara and Jinpei Matsuda spent the entire time with Gu Ze at the hospital.

By the time the three of them finished everything and returned to Matsuda Jinpei's apartment, it was almost dinnertime.

"Little Gu Ze, how are you feeling now?" Kenji Hagiwara asked with a smile.

"The fever's gone down, but I'm a little dizzy and hungry," Gu Ze said weakly, his big, watery eyes looking longingly at Matsuda Jinpei. "Matsuda, I want to eat pork cutlet rice."

"Okay, okay, don't rush me."

As the three of them came up the stairs, they saw a familiar figure standing at the door of room 301.

"Squad leader, when did you arrive?"

"Hey, ten minutes ago." Date Hang, with a toothpick in his mouth and a big smile on his face, waved at them.

"Gu Ze is here too. Where did you come from? Why are you so... disheveled?" His eyes were fixed on the stains on Hagiwara Kenji's clothes.

"It's a long story." The two briefly recounted their day's events to Date, who burst into laughter.

"Haha, I see." The tall guy, Ida, patted Gu Ze on the back. "It's good that you went to the hospital. But Gu Ze, you still need to exercise more!"

"Perfect timing! I brought some sukiyaki ingredients and sake with me. It's been a long time since we've all gotten together, let's have a good meal." Date Wataru picked up the sake and swirled it around. "I brought it back from my business trip, a specialty of Tokyo!"

"Wow, this looks pretty good!" Matsuda Jinpei visibly became excited and took out his keys to open the door.

"I want to drink it too!" Gu Ze said weakly from the side.

“Patients aren’t allowed to drink alcohol, so don’t even think about it.” Kenji Hagiwara put his elbow on Gu Ze’s shoulder and looked at him with pity. “You can have room temperature peach soda.”

"I'll just have one sip! Just one sip!"

"No way!" the other three said in unison.

"Kenji, you'd better go change your clothes and clean up," Date Wataru kindly reminded Hagiwara Kenji.

"I'll have to wear Kojinpei's clothes again."

"It's not like this is the first time you've worn this," Matsuda Jinpei retorted as he pushed Hagiwara Kenji into the inner room.

"Hehe, I'll go prepare the ingredients." Date Hang rolled up his sleeves, looking ready to get to work.

"I'll change my clothes and then come help you, class monitor."

OK!

"I'm going to feed the cats in 302. If I don't, those little devils will start causing trouble again." Matsuda Jinpei walked towards 302 with a sigh. In the days when Kurosawa Jin was away, Matsuda Jinpei had become a qualified cat owner.

"And what about me?" Gu Ze asked, raising his hand.

"You just wait here, and be a good girl and take your medicine." Kenji Hagiwara stuffed a bunch of medicines he got from the hospital into Gu Ze's arms.

Seeing the group of people busy doing their own thing, Gu Ze felt a little annoyed. He threw the bag of medicine on the coffee table in the living room and followed Matsuda Jinpei out.

Stepping into this long-unseen house, it would be impossible for Gu Ze to feel nothing.

There was a feeling of things being different now, and a sense of nostalgia... Gu Ze thought silently.

The room's layout remained unchanged, exactly as it was when Kurosawa Jin left. The furniture was dust-free, and the room felt warm and inviting, as if it were not an uninhabited house.

It seems that the second-year graduate student and Jinping cleaned this room well. I give it a five-star rating! Gu Ze nodded in satisfaction.

"Woof!" The little golden retriever's bark brought Gu Ze back from his thoughts.

Looking down, he saw a large golden retriever sitting upright in front of Gu Ze, its head tilted to the side, as if wondering why the person in front of it felt so familiar.

Gu Ze squatted down and petted the dog's head, feeling even more happy and his heart was melting.

"Meow meow meow." Tuanzi poked its cat head out from behind Little Golden, and then all sorts of cat heads popped up like mushrooms after rain.

After scooping the poop, Matsuda Jinpei turned around and saw that the food bowl was empty. Then he turned his head again and saw the cats and dogs surrounding Gu Ze.

This scene was dazzling. Matsuda Jinpei saw a crown appear above Gu Ze's head, shining brightly. Amidst the background music of "Hallelujah!", several large words descended—"King of Cats and Dogs~~~"

"It's strange, Dango and Golden usually don't get close to strangers," Matsuda Jinpei said sourly.

"It might be because I'm very popular with animals." Gu Ze finished petting one and moved on to the next, thoroughly enjoying himself.

"Let me introduce you first. This is Little Golden Retriever, the only golden retriever here. This is Tuanzi, the leader of the cats. This is Milk Tofu, and..." Matsuda Jinpei read out the names and pointed them out to Gu Ze.

Gu Ze: Actually, I know everything...

"Then I'll leave this place to you. I'll go help the class monitor."

Gu Ze gave Matsuda Jinpei an "OK" sign, completely absorbed in the furry world.

Back in this familiar and comfortable room, Gu Zeru found himself in a haven of gentle comfort. His brain, which had been foggy from illness, completely gave up on thinking, and he fell asleep on the sofa with Tuanzi in his arms.

During this time, Kenji Hagiwara came to check on Gu Ze, but seeing that he was sleeping soundly, he did not disturb him.

So, he slept for twenty minutes.

When Gu Ze woke up again, the first thing he saw was the calico cat's round, chubby face.

Tuanzi stood on the armrest of the sofa and looked at him.

Gu Ze smiled and gently said to Tuanzi, "I'm back."

"Meow!" (Welcome back!)

He sat up, rubbing his temples. After a moment of distraction, his gaze was drawn to something: a music box on a display stand, the one that had been broken before.

"It's actually fixed."

Next to the music box were several photo frames, including a solo photo of Kurosawa Jin, his police academy graduation photo, and a group photo of him with Hagiwara Kenji, Matsuda Jinpei, and two others.

Gu Ze picked up his solo photo and examined it closely. He smiled faintly, his eyes gentle, and his expression was exactly the same as the silver-haired, blue-eyed young man in the photo frame.

Gu Ze & Kurosawa Jin: I'm still as handsome as ever!

When Date Hang, who came to inform Gu Ze about dinner, entered 302, this was the scene he saw.

Noticing someone enter, Gu Ze put the things he was carrying back in their place, saying, "I was just looking around."

Date Hang glanced at the solo photo Gu Ze had taken and kindly introduced it, "The original owner of this house, although I've never met him, seemed like a very gentle person..."

“I know, Brother Date.” Gu Ze interrupted Date Hang, “Kurosawa Jin, former heir of the Kurosawa Group, a policeman, died… there are many suspicious points in the case… in short, he is someone that Hagiwara and Matsuda cannot let go of.”

"Wow, you know so much?"

"Brother Date, don't forget I'm a detective!"

At that moment, Kenji Hagiwara and Jinpei Matsuda's voices urged them on from room 301.

"Hey, class monitor, Gu Ze, if you two don't come over here soon, Matsuda will eat all the sukiyaki."

"And pork chop rice and peach soda!"

"Coming, coming!" Gu Ze called out in response. "Let's go, Brother Ida."

After saying that, he rushed towards room 301 as if he couldn't wait to taste the delicious food.

Date Wataru looked back at the photos again, imprinting Kurosawa Jin's image in his mind.

He understood perfectly well that Kenji Hagiwara and Jinpei Matsuda had kept many things from him over the years, but now he thought that perhaps he could help them.

[Ding! Words have inspired Date Kou, Date Kou's approval rating +10]

Gu Ze: Huh? What's he imagining? I didn't do anything!
