Chapter 92 The Magician on the Cruise Ship (Part 1)
On the rooftop of a hospital's inpatient ward, Gu Ze leaned against the railing, puffing on his cigarette and looking down at everything below.
The cold wind dispersed the smoke, and the smell of nicotine lingered in the air.
"Brother Gu Ze, I remember you don't smoke." Conan, with his hands in his pockets, strode over to Gu Ze's side.
"I suddenly feel like smoking, mind your own business," Gu Ze retorted, quickly stubbing out his cigarette to prevent Conan from inhaling secondhand smoke.
"Something's not right, Gu Ze. You're acting very strangely today." Conan narrowed his eyes, as if trying to see through Gu Ze.
"Really? Or probably not?"
Conan smirked. He didn't want to argue with Gu Ze about anything else, so he decided to get straight to the point.
Is Base Fourteen an organization's base?
Yes, you guessed right.
"No wonder Inspector Ichihara reacted so strongly just now, and left after only a few words." Conan stroked his chin.
Gu Ze looked at Conan, "Do you want to know about the organization's Base Fourteen?"
"Do you have information?" Conan asked suspiciously.
"Of course." Gu Ze's eyes darted around.
"Base Fourteen was one of the organization's experimental bases, used to develop various drugs, such as APTX-4869. A few months ago, the police, together with undercover agents within the organization, raided Base Fourteen."
"Mr. Kurosawa escaped around that time, didn't he?" Conan listened and nodded, muttering, "I see."
"After the police captured Base 14, they obtained the data that they couldn't destroy in time. Officer Shi Yuan only needs to check the number C208 to find out its authenticity."
Gu Ze paused for a moment, looked into the distance, and saw a wild goose flapping its wings and flying south.
Since the imposter intends to adopt the persona of an experimental subject of the organization, he must have fabricated perfect witnesses and physical evidence, which would be easy for Number One or Number Three.
but……
“You can go back and ask Xiao Ai; she used to be at Base Fourteen,” Gu Ze added.
"Haibara?" Conan was taken aback!
"No way, Great Detective, you don't even know this?" Gu Ze looked at Conan with a hint of mockery.
"Tch, it's all because you guys are so secretive, not telling me anything!" Conan rolled his eyes.
Looking at the whorl of hair on Conan's head, Gu Ze couldn't help but reach out his wicked hand, "If you want to get more information, then quickly solve the mystery I gave you."
"What?! That question makes absolutely no sense! Are you kidding me?!"
When it came to the riddle Gu Ze gave him, Conan was completely stumped. He stayed up all night but still came up empty-handed.
The two were bickering back and forth when a commotion broke out downstairs in the inpatient building.
More than a dozen reporters, carrying cameras and microphones, surged toward the hospital's glass revolving doors like a tidal wave.
"Was the person who appeared at the banquet last night really Inspector Kurosawa? How did he survive?"
"What did the Kurosawa Group say?"
"Let us in!" The sounds of camera shutters and questions created a chaotic scene.
"Please remain calm!" Several police officers lined up in a row, their arms crossed to form a human wall.
The commotion downstairs attracted people inside the building to peek out and see what was going on.
"No, the police have already blocked the news. How did these reporters find their way here?" Conan's eyes widened.
Kurosawa Jin, the former heir to the Kurosawa Group, has been resurrected from the dead.
Such news, once proclaimed to the world, will cause harm to Kurosawa Jin, whether it be his former enemies or the people in his organization.
Therefore, you must never reveal that "Kurosawa Jin" is at this hospital.
"Who leaked the information?" Conan asked suspiciously.
"Hehe, it's the 'Kurosawa Formation'," Gu Ze answered Conan in his mind.
As long as this matter is blown out of proportion and becomes widely known, then the "Black Swamp Formation's" "substitution" plan will be half completed.
"What a clever scheme," he murmured, looking at the throng of reporters.
"Bang!" Downstairs in the ward, Matsuda Jinpei returned from the first floor and slammed the door shut in anger.
"Tsk, what can these reporters do besides write sensational, fabricated articles? They're more annoying than flies!"
He picked up his water glass, tilted his head back and gulped it down, suppressing the thirst in his throat before asking, "Where's that kid Gu Ze?"
Kenji Hagiwara handed the peeled apple to Jin Kurosawa on the hospital bed, and looked up to reply, "He said he's going to get some fresh air."
"He's fast!" Matsuda Jinpei clenched his fist. "I just found out that the really popular go-kart is him."
"Huh!" Upon hearing this news, Kenji Hagiwara paused for a moment, exclaiming in disbelief, "Gu Ze? Him? Go-karts?"
"Yes, that's what those reporters said. I was wondering what this kid was busy with all day long, and it turns out he's been doing such dangerous work."
"When he gets back, I'll give him a good beating!" Matsuda declared threateningly.
“Um, Matsuda…” At this moment, Kurosawa Jin awkwardly called out Matsuda Jinpei’s name.
"Mr. Gu Ze seems to be a very kind person. He probably didn't do it on purpose. Please don't hit him."
After saying that, he revealed a gentle and pleasing smile, the curve of his lips exactly the same as that of Kurosawa Jin in the past.
Seeing Kurosawa Jin's expression, Matsuda Jinpei was stunned for a few seconds before turning his head away and saying, "Alright, but a verbal reprimand is still necessary."
But who knew that in the days that followed, neither Conan, Hagiwara, nor Matsuda saw Gu Ze again.
Outside the hospital, Rei Furuya, dressed in warm clothes, leaned against a roadside utility pole.
He just returned to Japan from the United States a few days ago to do a mission, and he won't be staying for long.
Surprisingly, so much has happened in Japan in the few days since I returned!
He really wanted to go into the hospital ward to confirm if his brother Kurosawa was really still alive, but reason stopped him.
As Rei Furuya was pondering how to disguise himself and enter the hospital, a phone call came in on his cell phone.
"Bourbon, is the mission complete?" a mechanical voice came from the other end of the phone.
It's rum!
"Still finishing up," Furuya Rei lied, when in fact he had completed the task an hour ago.
"You don't need to rush back to America these next few days. Go and investigate someone for me."
"who?"
"The person who has been making headlines recently is the former heir to the Kurosawa Group—Kurosawa Jin."
Suppressing his surprise, Rei Furuya asked, "Rum, why are you interested in him?"
"Heh, back then, Kurosawa Jin was killed by Gin. Now, this person has suddenly come back to life. This is a great opportunity."
"We need to investigate everything before the news reaches the BOSS."
"Only by striking first can we deliver a heavy blow to Gin."
Within the organization, Rum and Gin have never gotten along, Rei Furuya thought.
"So, Bourbon, we need to act fast! We need to find out the truth before Gin does."
"Understood," Furuya Rei replied.
