Chapter 013 The man with his own bgm
A black car drove slowly and stopped at the gate of Xingfu Community.
Someone turned on the speakers, and a very exciting music suddenly sounded, attracting the elderly to turn their heads frequently, wanting to see who had such good taste.
As music played, the front door opened, and a leather-shod foot stepped onto the floor, followed by long legs. A tall man in a suit stepped out from the passenger seat. He was handsome, with a smile on his face, the look of a successful man.
This successful man was carrying a speaker on his shoulder, and the powerful and tasteful music was coming from the speaker.
Three men dressed as bodyguards descended from the back row, their faces obscured by dark sunglasses. Each of them carried a silver briefcase, and their movements were in unison. They silently followed the man in the suit, not saying a word.
Grandpa and grandma: Pupils are shaking.
This scene didn't seem like an insurance salesperson, but rather a secret transaction. Seeing the man in the suit walking straight towards him, the security guard panicked, his hand holding the stun gun trembling slightly.
The man smiled kindly and reached out to turn off the speakers. The surging and passionate music suddenly stopped, and for a moment the air was too quiet.
"Hello, sir. We are from an insect control company. We received a commission from the community yesterday, saying that there is an influx of spiders here, so they asked us to come and help. This is my work ID and our company's business card. The three people behind you are our professional cleaners." Wilde spoke without hesitation, telling lies without blushing or beating his heart.
The security guard took it, looked at it carefully, and breathed a sigh of relief. "So it's a pest control company! Oh, I thought it was something else. What's in this box?"
"Oh, our professional insecticide tools." Wilde clapped his hands. Zhu Changan, who was standing beside him, immediately understood and laid the box flat and opened it. It was indeed some common insecticide tools.
The security guard was relieved and opened the door for them.
Mo Xuanji and Shen Liuxue, standing nearby, breathed a sigh of relief. Their suitcases, one containing a pile of talismans and the other a sword, were a clear example of feudal superstition and the use of controlled knives. If the security guards had asked them to open everything, they'd probably have gone to have tea and a heart-to-heart with the police first.
After entering the residential complex, Mo Xuanji adjusted his sunglasses and looked around the interior calmly.
Xingfu Community looks quite old, and the walls of the old residential buildings are peeling to varying degrees. However, the greening here is well done, and the plants are very lush.
One building seemed to have been recently renovated; its walls were pristinely white, and traces of spray paint still lingered on the floor. Several rusty iron windows on the upper floors had white spots, likely accidentally applied during the renovation.
Of course, this scene only existed in the eyes of ordinary people. What Mo Xuanji saw was that the entire building was emitting an eerie aura, with wisps of black gas rising from the dazzling white walls and constantly converging towards the roof.
The white didn't look like typical white paint. A closer look revealed it was layers of spider webs. Because they were so thick, they cast an eerie white hue in the sunlight. The entire building resembled a giant cocoon, as if something were hatching.
Mo Xuanji: Sanity is dropping like crazy! Who has spider webs on their walls?
Wilde's face was solemn. He took the lead and walked at the front. Shen Liuxue and Zhu Changan were in the middle of the team, responsible for observing the two sides of the team. Mo Xuanji was at the end of the team, responsible for rear security.
The team entered the dark corridor.
The walls inside the corridor were also painted white, making it look clean and tidy, but the ubiquitous spider webs made the scene look extremely weird.
Thick spiderwebs filled every corner, and tiny webs could be found everywhere in the cracks between the walls. Right in front of them, an incredibly large spiderweb dangled from the ceiling, its other end clinging to the ground, completely blocking the entrance to the staircase.
"Oh my God! It's like there's a spider plague here!" Zhu Changan rubbed his arms, goosebumps all over his body.
Mo Xuanji casually picked up a wooden stick and poked the spider web. He felt as if he was poking a sturdy fishing net. It was still slightly sticky.
Wilde looked at the spider web carefully with a serious face.
The door to the west unit on the first floor suddenly opened, and a short, plump woman emerged, carrying a garbage bag in one hand. Her eyes were dark, as if she hadn't rested for a long time. Seeing the four people, a flicker of surprise crossed her eyes. "What are you doing...?"
"Hello, Auntie. We are from an insect extermination company." Wilde took out his business card.
Hearing the words "pest control company," the old lady's face lit up with a delighted smile. She quickly closed the door and walked towards the four people: "Oh, we've been waiting so long for you to come!"
"etc!"
Mo Xuanji was about to stop her when she saw the old lady had already passed through the spiderweb. She was completely oblivious, as if she hadn't even seen it. The moment she passed through the spiderweb, a wisp of white energy was sucked away from the old lady, and her spirit visibly withered.
The old lady yawned in confusion, but didn't pay any attention and continued to talk.
"I don't know what happened to our building, but a few days ago, a lot of spiders suddenly started spinning webs in the hallway. We didn't think much of it at first, after all, there are always a lot of mosquitoes here in the summer, so maybe the spiders were looking for food. But then the webs kept growing and getting bigger. The kids on the third floor started crying when they saw the webs, so we started thinking it might be something bad."
"Later, we contacted the property management, and they cleared the spider webs, painted the entire building inside and out with white paint, and sprayed insecticide. It would have been fine if they hadn't painted it, but once they did, the spider webs appeared even faster. We just finished cleaning it the day before yesterday, and it popped up again early the next morning. Now the corridor looks spotless, and it took us, old bones, a long time to clean it out."
Clean? Mo Xuanji glanced bewilderedly at the corridor that had become the Spider Cave.
"These spider webs are made up of strange energy and ordinary people cannot see them." The system answered his question.
"These spider webs are so weird. We were so scared that we couldn't sleep well for several days and nights. We had nightmares all night long, even during the day. Look at the dark circles under my eyes. I haven't had any energy all day." The aunt came forward so that the four of them could see more clearly.
Wilde listened carefully, his expression gentle, and said soothingly: "Don't worry, Auntie, we are all professionals and can solve them quickly."
The three people behind him nodded repeatedly.
"That's great. Hey boy, what's up with this spider?"
"Well, our investigation revealed that these spiders are an invasive species from elsewhere. Since our community has few natural enemies and a good living environment, their growth has been rapid. It's not a big deal."
The aunt breathed a sigh of relief: "That's good, I thought there really was a spider spirit."
Four people:!!!
I guessed it right. Although it’s not a monster, it’s almost the same.
"Oh, how is that possible? This is a scientific society."
"Yes, Auntie, don't scare yourself."
The aunt smiled happily, but then she remembered that she still had things to do, so she said goodbye to the others and left.
The four of them watched the old lady leave with a smile, then took out their cell phones.
[Help, help! She was almost exposed. Luckily, she didn't think too much about it.]
[I'm so scared! Even if it wasn't intentional, if ordinary people knew the truth, they would be punished and sent to the dark room!]
The corridor was quiet at this time, and no other residents had left. Seeing this, several people breathed a sigh of relief.
Wilde pulled out a stack of defensive charms and silence notes from his pocket like a magician. "According to the plan, split up and act separately. Make sure to complete the preparations before dark."
......
Mo Xuanji knocked on the door. After a while, a resident came out and opened the door. Like the old lady, he also had dark circles under his eyes.
The man looked him over and was about to close the door with an impatient look on his face: "If you don't buy insurance, I'm not interested in anything else."
Mo Xuanji quickly stopped him, "Wait, I'm from a pest control company, responsible for handling this spider incident. To ensure the complete extermination of these spiders, we need to thoroughly disinfect the entire building and check every resident's home to make sure there are no spiders that have slipped through the net. Here's my ID, please forgive me."
The man saw the ID, hesitated for a moment, and finally let him in.
"Thank you." Mo Xuanji breathed a sigh of relief. The string of words she had just spoken was already the limit of her social anxiety. Any more would have been exhausting.
As planned, Mo Xuanji used the strange detector to check every resident's home, and he actually found a few small ones.
After cleaning, Mo Xuanji meticulously applied protective talismans to the doors and windows of the residents. These talismans were specifically designed to block out the uncanny. Once applied properly, the uncanny couldn't get in, even if they banged their heads against it. Unfortunately, they had a time limit; a day and a night was the limit.
The four of them were very efficient. It was just dusk when the cobwebs in the corridor were cleared away and all 36 households in the building had their protective talismans affixed.
Thanks to a month of intense training, he didn't feel tired at all after this one. Mo Xuanji silently shed tears in his heart. His current physical fitness was something he couldn't even imagine back in high school.
After a short rest, they prepared to continue their action. Suddenly, Mo Xuanji heard a faint rustling sound.
Shen Liuxue obviously heard it as well. He quickly stood up, gripped the hilt of the sword with one hand, and looked around.
Shen Liuxue closed her eyes, and the subtle changes in the air flow were infinitely magnified in her mind. She suddenly opened her eyes, and the sword flashed, and a palm-sized spider was split in half in the air.
This attack seemed to be a signal, and a dense swarm of spiders rushed out from the wall, crawling towards the three people from all directions like waves. The blank "circle" gradually shrank.
Wilde disappeared at some point.
The three of them stood back to back, in a defensive stance.
The corridor was cramped, and the walls were just ordinary reinforced concrete, shattering at the slightest touch. Under such circumstances, no one dared to use their supernatural powers here.
"This is the real package deal." Mo Xuanji couldn't help but complain.
"Help! So many spiders!" Zhu Changan was completely terrified. Even if he wasn't afraid of insects, the sight of this scene would have given him a panic attack.
Shen Liuxue didn't say anything. She held the sword and looked ahead coldly.
