Another sweet daily life
Zhou Wen's smile remained unchanged as he lightly stroked the rim of his cup with his fingertips: "Ah, I'm used to it, I can't change it all at once."
The air was still for a few seconds.
The manager quickly steered the conversation back to the dinner: "It's rare for us to get together, so eat more and don't just chat. Chenhe, you'll have a debriefing meeting tonight too, so eat more or you'll be hungry later."
Shen He chuckled, ignored him, and continued looking at his phone.
Chen Yuchuan sent another message: "If you tell me to get lost and I just leave, wouldn't I lose face?"
Shen He glanced at it, his lips twitched slightly, but he didn't reply.
Chen Yuchuan was still not giving up: "Say something. Give your brother some face."
Shen He raised an eyebrow, stretched back in his chair, and replied, "I've already given you a lot of face."
The reply came almost instantly: "Then give me some face and come watch my game this weekend."
Shen He glanced at the schedule. ASG's first show this week was on Friday. He tapped the screen with his fingertips and asked casually, "Which day is it for you?"
“Zhou Tian, the first match, it doesn’t conflict with yours.” He continued with a sigh, “Look at me, I keep track of my brother’s work and life in real time, and look at you, you don’t even know when I have a match.”
Shen He's lips curled up for a second before he slowly replied, "Not interested."
He added, "In every aspect."
Chen Yuchuan has completely fallen silent now. Shen He even began to wonder if his joke had really hurt his feelings.
As a result, Chen Yuchuan sent a short video:
These kinds of things show that the other person doesn't consider you a friend.
Shen He was too lazy to click in and read it, and replied to him: "Yeah, I don't consider you a friend."
He added, "I've said it so many times, we're brothers, not just friends."
Chen Yuchuan was silent for a while, then sent a message: "...Sigh, what can I do since you've said that? I'll just spoil you."
Shen He glanced at the time and replied, "I've eaten. I have to go to a debriefing meeting later."
Chen Yuchuan instructed, "If it doesn't work, I'll send a few people to follow you and support you. I'm worried you won't be able to withstand the wrath of the coaching staff and management."
Shenhe replied with an "I don't have time to mess around with you" emoji, put away his phone, and realized that what the manager said made some sense. Although he was a little disgusted, he still had to eat something, otherwise he would have to order takeout again when he got back, which would be a hassle.
The meal was rather somber; no one brought up the unpleasantness from earlier, but the atmosphere just wouldn't warm up. The assistant went to get the car, and Shen He walked straight out, only to hear a voice behind him: "Shen He, wait a minute."
He turned around, and Zhou Wen, who had put on a low-key coat, smiled with restraint and propriety: "Can we talk alone for a bit?"
Shen He didn't speak, his gaze swept over him, but he stopped in his tracks.
Zhou Wen stepped closer, his tone relaxed, as if reminiscing: "You used to love going to internet cafes to play games, I never thought you'd actually become a professional gamer, I remember..."
“I don’t remember we were very close before,” Shen He said, looking up at him and interrupting him crisply.
Zhou Wen seemed oblivious to the coldness in his tone and continued smiling, "Actually, after you left, I tried to go look for you, and then I heard..."
"What's it to you?" Shen He tilted his head, his eyes sweeping over Zhou Wen's face. He smiled, but it was cold. "You're quite nosy."
Zhou Wen's expression remained unchanged.
"Just consider me a busybody," she said, her voice tinged with a sigh. "You've really grown up; your temper has gotten much worse."
"Don't talk like I used to have such a good temper." Shen He's voice was a little lower, but his tone was still as calm as ever. "You were the one who gave me the cold shoulder first, so don't act like I did anything to you."
He spoke very bluntly, without holding back any sentimentality.
Zhou Wen seemed to pause for a moment, then lowered his head and smiled, but the smile lacked the composure he had maintained all night, looking rather awkward: "...I'm sorry."
Shen He looked at him, his eyes expressionless, and simply replied, "Oh."
The conversation fell silent for a moment. Zhou Wen sighed, took another step forward, and asked softly, "Could we exchange contact information? Just... WeChat is fine."
Chen He didn't move, his eyes darkening for two seconds, as if he was weighing his options.
It's just a matter of giving me my contact information; if I don't, I'll probably have a lot of trouble later. He took out his phone from his pocket and handed it over: "Scan it."
The other party acted quickly, scanning the QR code and noting down their real name.
Shen He glanced at it, said nothing, put his phone away, and said calmly, "If there's nothing else, I'll be going now."
"Okay, then on your way..."
He turned and left before the "Be careful on the road" was even finished.
The manager seemed hesitant to speak the whole way, but Shen He ignored him. As soon as they entered the base gate, they ran into Gao Mingyuan, and the two of them went into the debriefing room together.
Apart from Zhou Yifan, the others hadn't arrived yet. Seeing Shen He come in, he smiled and greeted him, "You're here?"
Shen He replied with an "Mm," and Gao Mingyuan next to him started winking and making faces. Seeing his cheeky behavior, Shen He couldn't help but push him, and Gao Mingyuan froze as soon as he pushed him.
Gao Mingyuan didn't realize his mistake and was still joking, "Oh, oh, oh, someone's getting anxious."
Zhou Yifan looked completely bewildered, clearly not understanding what the bot lane duo was doing. Shen He sighed and asked Gao Mingyuan, "How long have the symptoms lasted?"
The coaches came in one after another. Gao Mingyuan sat down with a serious expression and sent a message to Shen He: "Hahaha, you don't mind, do you? If you mind, I won't say it anymore. It's just that my girlfriend has been talking about you two lately. I hear her talking about you all the time, and I can't help but want to joke with you guys after hearing it so much."
Shen He replied with a string of ellipses, then thought for a moment and asked jokingly, "You're not using your girlfriend as a shield for your mental breakdown, are you?"
Gao Mingyuan replied, "You single people really don't understand."
Shen He smiled, staring at the top two people in his message list: Chen Yuchuan and Gao Mingyuan. He didn't know if he and Gao Mingyuan could be considered friends, but that subconscious shove just now was something he used to do to friends.
Before becoming a professional gamer, he thought he no longer needed friends, but now he can't help but notice these changes.
Gao Mingyuan is like an elephant: gentle, friendly, and caring towards his companions, with a highly sensitive emotional perception. Therefore, he unconsciously extends goodwill to Shen He and the other teammates, and is always worried that his actions might affect Shen He's mood. His antics, though somewhat childish, are not annoying.
Chen Yuchuan, especially Chen Yuchuan, always approached him with a strange enthusiasm, rushing towards him with intense emotions, like an unreasonable fire, determined to ignite something within him.
In recent years, Shen He has gotten used to being alone, to isolating himself from external emotions, and not wanting to care about anyone's opinions. To him, these things are like dust that can be easily blown away.
But recently, he has indeed been affected. The most obvious manifestation is that he has started talking nonsense and joking with them for no reason. These emotions, which should be far removed from his life, are constantly invading his world.
He is changing.
The coaching staff quickly entered the field, and Shen He didn't have time to think any further. He had specially found a wired headset today, threading the headphone cord under his hoodie and pulling it out from the back of his neck to hang on his ears. With the help of his hair and the hoodie's hood, he could block out a lot of the coaches' nonsense.
Last week's game was a beautiful victory.
There was skill involved, and luck played a part, but overall the results were mediocre, especially Chen He, whose performance was almost flawless and was the focus of praise from fans and bloggers.
There's nothing to criticize about the game we lost; it wasn't that our team was bad, it was just that the opponent was better.
So the debriefing session ended quickly, and then it came down to discipline. The coach texted the manager and administration to attend, as if he was determined to make a big deal out of it.
He stood in front of the conference table, full of emotion, and even a little aggrieved when he got excited. His gaze swept over everyone and finally landed on Shen He, and he began to bring up old grievances.
After rambling on and on, Shen He leaned back in his chair, looking somewhat relaxed. He didn't understand what Shen He was saying and didn't respond.
He didn't think there was anything wrong with his choice; clearly, he was smarter and understood ADCs better than the coach. But he was too lazy to explain at this point.
"And you, Zhou Yifan," the coach changed the subject, turning his attention to the jungler next to him, "You are the team's commander. If you lack discipline, the others will follow suit and act recklessly. You are also responsible."
Zhou Yifan hummed in agreement, a hint of guilt on his face.
The coach wanted to continue, but the manager stopped him with a light cough.
"Alright, everyone heard what the coach said, so I won't say anything more." He spoke casually, his gaze lingering on Shen He for a moment, a smile inexplicably appearing on his face, his tone as if casually discussing the weather: "Don't mess around in the next game."
Shen He didn't even lift his eyelids, and replied, "Okay."
After he finished speaking, there was a brief silence in the meeting room. Even the coach was taken aback, probably not expecting him to respond so smoothly.
Gao Mingyuan glanced at him from the side and sent him a bunch of question marks. Shen He replied with a smile.
While the manager was still rambling on, Shen He simply used his spare time to book a high-speed rail ticket. VLG's match was in Lancheng, and ASG's was in Yuncheng, which wasn't too far apart. Since Chen Yuchuan had already spoken, he figured he might as well go and support him.
After booking the train tickets, Shenhe realized that tickets for competitions usually go on sale a month in advance, and these tickets were already sold out.
After thinking for a moment, he asked Chen Yuchuan, "If I tell security I'm your brother, can I go into the audience?"
Chen Yuchuan replied immediately: "Brother, no, but the contestants' family members can enter for free."
"?"
Chen Yuchuan changed his tune: "You're being so kind, I should arrange the best VIP tickets for you online. Just come on over."
After the meeting, Shen He returned to his dormitory and swiped his card as usual, but was stopped by the administrator: "Someone just brought you food."
He paused, thinking he had misheard. But when he went over, he saw the familiar packaging.
It was Chen Yuchuan again.
The portions are small, but they include both main dishes and snacks.
When Shen He opened the package, he couldn't help but chuckle. He felt that Chen Yuchuan was being a little too meticulous. He thought about it for a long time but still couldn't figure out how Chen Yuchuan had guessed that he had eaten hastily today. So it was more likely a coincidence.
He opened the package, snapped a few photos with his phone, and since a fan had asked him to share his daily life, which he didn't do much besides playing games, this material was readily available. He downloaded Weibo again, uploaded the pictures, and captioned them:
"My good bro, I'll treat you to a late-night snack ^_^"
Comments and likes increased rapidly, but Chen Yuchuan liked them almost immediately. Shen He, wary of his methods of creating a CP (couple pairing) scandal, sent him a message warning him: "Don't comment randomly, it's best not to comment at all."
Meanwhile, at the VLG base, Chen Yuchuan lay sprawled in his seat, spending the entire night looking at his phone, occasionally playing ranked games, a strange smile always on his face.
The mid laner was the first to notice something was wrong.
"Brother Chuan, what's wrong with you? You've been chuckling all night. Did you finally get the girl you said you were going to pursue?"
The others immediately became interested and turned around.
"Really? I already said that with Brother Chuan taking action, there's nothing he can't handle."
"Don't spread rumors." Chen Yuchuan's tone was casual, and although he was denying it, his voice carried a rare hint of amusement.
The mid-laner quipped, "Who would believe you looking like that?"
“Exactly,” the ADC chimed in, “I’ve been laughing all night, Yu Chuan, are you some kind of super love-struck genius?”
Chen Yuchuan was too lazy to argue any further. He stood up from his chair, opened his phone, ordered takeout, and said in a lazy voice, "Shut up and stop talking nonsense. I'll treat you to barbecue."
Wow, the boss is so generous! I wish the boss and his wife a long and happy life together.
"Alright, we old bachelors will also come and share in the joy of Yuchuan."
Even if he didn't win her over, things are probably going well for him soon; his appearance has changed recently.
"Yes, yes, a male peacock displaying its tail feathers."
...
Chen Yuchuan went to the balcony, lit a cigarette, and looked at the sign that read, "Don't comment randomly, it's best not to comment."
He imagined Shen He sending this message, wondering if he was smiling, or if he was giving him a blank warning, perhaps even frowning with a hint of helplessness at not wanting to be randomly paired up with someone. But no matter how he thought about it, Shen He who sent this message was particularly... Chen Yuchuan couldn't quite put his finger on it, he just wanted to see Shen He as soon as possible.
He forced a smile, looking helpless, and replied to Chen He, "Fine, whatever you say, as long as you're happy."
