Chapter 1 Weird Synchrony

Chapter 1 Weird Synchrony

The person in bed suddenly opened his eyes, realizing that he had had that indescribable dream again.

He didn't know when it started, but he kept dreaming about two strange men. The first time he had the dream, he thought it was his own problem, but as it kept recurring, he couldn't help but wonder if some kind of supernatural power was at work.

However, the things he was in charge of in the Mafia were not important, and there was no need to target him if someone wanted to do something.

—And in the form of a dream!

"Is Yuya having another nightmare?"

The sudden sound interrupted Yuya's thoughts, and he quickly banished the inappropriate image from his mind.

Standing by the bed was a black-haired boy with iris-like eyes; he was Osamu Dazai, Yuya's childhood friend.

"It wasn't an important dream, Dazai, why are you up so early today?" You usually get up very late.

Dazai's eyes held a hint of resentment: "After all, Yuya is leaving today. If I oversleep, Yuya will definitely leave without waking me because he doesn't want to disturb my sleep, and then I'll miss seeing him one last time."

"It's not like it'll be the last time we see each other; they come back often."

Speaking of this, Yuya quickly got up; he still had a few things to pack.

"Yuya~ Why do you have to go to that vocational school~ After you leave, the Mafia will only have me and Chuuya, that little rascal, left. I'll be so lonely," the black-haired boy with iris-like eyes said, wearing a cartoon pajama set that he would never buy, as he pounced on the bed and rolled around incessantly. "Stay, stay!"

Yuya reassured his childhood friend, "You'll be back soon, it's just a simple study assignment. If all goes well, you should be back in a year or two."

"If you miss me, you can call me."

Yuya Kojima is a subordinate of Mori Ougai, the leader of the Yokohama Port Mafia. He is someone that even among the executives, few have ever seen.

He has no special abilities, but he possesses innate magical techniques, making him the only sorcerer in the entire Port Mafia—the kind who hasn't received his license yet.

He was also the only person Mori Ougai could send on any mission involving sorcery.

There are many mafia gangs in Yokohama, and death, bloodshed, fear, and all sorts of negative emotions give rise to a monster called "cursed spirits".

These monsters are beyond the capabilities of ordinary people; only sorcerers with magical powers can handle them.

Having just assumed the position of leader, Mori Ōgai, facing internal and external troubles and a tight economy, pondered for a long time the fixed expense of "hiring sorcerers".

Then they decided to send Yuya Kojima to study at the Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu Higher Specialized School, so that when he returned, they wouldn't need to spend money to hire someone.

Yuya Koshino was under orders and had to pack his things and head to Tokyo today.

Dazai Osamu stopped rolling around, lay face down on the bed, folded his hands together, buried most of his face in them, leaving only his eyes visible.

Her iris-colored eyes looked at people with both deep affection and indifference, yet her voice remained sweet.

"Yuya went to Tokyo to study and made new friends. I hope he won't forget me. We're separated by distance and growing further apart. Oh, just thinking about it makes me want to cry."

Yuya looked helplessly at his childhood friend: "Dazai, don't exaggerate. We're only a short distance from Tokyo to Yokohama, it only takes half an hour by train. It's not like we're facing life or death. Besides, how could I forget you?"

“It’s hard to say about these things,” Dazai said, lowering his eyes slightly. “Feelings, these invisible, intangible, and ethereal things, are quite fragile…”

Before he could finish speaking, Dazai was silenced.

Suddenly everything went dark, and he was pulled into a warm embrace.

"How can it be invisible and intangible? Our feelings for each other come from within ourselves, and we can feel it when we hug each other."

The gloom in Dazai's eyes dissipated, and he couldn't help but smile, causing Yuya's chest to tremble as well.

He heard the Grand Chancellor's muffled voice coming from outside.

"Yuya, you're so cunning."

After calming his childhood friend, who was prone to mood swings, Yuya continued packing his things—not much, just a few sets of clothes and books. Yokohama wasn't far from Tokyo; if he needed anything, he could always come back and have it delivered.

Yuya zipped up his suitcase, rolled up his sleeves, and walked into the kitchen: "What do you want to eat for breakfast?"

Dazai lay on the bed looking at him: "Aren't we leaving soon?"

"I'll leave right away, but I won't delay making you breakfast before I go. I don't know what the course schedule is like at the vocational college yet, or if there are any holidays. But I'll sneak back whenever I have time. If I find out you haven't eaten on time, you're in big trouble."

"How will Yuu punish me?" Dazai tilted his head slightly, with innocent curiosity.

If things get a little too extreme, would you tie him up and whip him?

Yu hesitated a bit when asked this question.

How should Dazai be punished?

Put yourself in others' shoes...

"Then I'll tickle you." That's what he's most afraid of.

“Hahaha…” Dazai suddenly burst out laughing, his expression one of unbridled amusement, as if he had heard something incredibly funny. “It’s a punishment that only Yuya could propose, and it’s a very terrible punishment.”

"I will eat my food obediently."

That's what he promised.

Yuya made crab porridge for Dazai, and only left in a hurry after watching him finish eating.

Mafia offered him a ride to the tram station, but he had to take the tram himself to transfer.

The agreed reporting time is 10 o'clock, and it's almost 9 o'clock now. If I rush there, I might be late.

However, Yuya couldn't just leave Dazai behind.

He was sixteen years old and had known Dazai for twelve years.

He knew all too well how little this guy cared about his health.

Although he wasn't sure if Dazai had seen it, Yuya still waved towards his room.

Let's go!

Watching the car drive away, Dazai sat back in his seat and ate the crab porridge spoonful by spoonful.

It tasted the same as usual, but because there was one less person next to him, he felt it didn't taste as good.

But we can't waste it.

This was made by Yuya for him.

Someone approached at the door, their voice trembling slightly: "Lord Dazai, the leader says he wants to see you."

He stood at the doorway, not daring to take a single step inside.

The last person who accidentally wandered into this room is dead.

Dazai remained silent, and the man kept his head down.

She breathed softer and softer, afraid of disturbing the person inside.

After a long pause, he finally heard the Dazai-sama's weak voice: "Then let's go..."

Yu isn't here either, so I'm not feeling motivated.

**

Yuya's family members both died in a car accident when he was four years old. After that, he lived with his childhood friend Dazai's family.

A few years ago, when Dazai ran away from home, he followed without hesitation.

Last year, Dazai decided to join the Port Mafia, and he joined along with him.

This was the first time they had been separated since they met.

Yuya remembered what Chief Mori had said.

[Dazai-kun's No Longer Human, while capable of nullifying supernatural abilities, is largely ineffective against cursed spirits. Although Yokohama doesn't have a large number of cursed spirits, there are still quite a few within our sphere of influence.]

[Dazai-kun is a student I have high hopes for, and also my most capable assistant. If he were to be injured by a cursed spirit during any mission, I would be in considerable distress.]

[Little Deer, after much thought, I realize that only you can protect Dazai-kun.]

I imagine you, like me, don't want to gamble on such a vague and uncertain possibility, right?

Yuya knew in his heart that these words were seven parts false and three parts true.

Chief Mori was mostly using him.

However, it is a fact that the cursed spirits will harm Dazai, so even though he is reluctant, he still has to go to the Cursed Arts Academy.

Learn the methods of a sorcerer.

After getting off the tram, You immediately went to transfer to the bus.

When we got off the bus, we were already in the middle of a deserted mountain.

Yuya held up a map with only one line drawn on it: "Go this way..."

He packed his things into his backpack and started climbing the mountain, dragging his suitcase.

In the empty classroom on the mountain, a white-haired boy wearing sunglasses leaned back with his long legs propped up on the desk in front of him.

There was also a black-haired boy with a bun hairstyle sitting with his arms crossed next to him.

Both of them were very quiet.

They had maintained this pose for a long time, waiting here since sunrise. If it weren't for their occasional blinking, one would almost suspect they were already dead.

It became a fossil.

Suddenly, the white-haired boy's lips curled into a smile.

"Jay, he's here."

"Dazai" is not a typo; it was used intentionally.
