Chapter 1
1.
The summer wind, wrapped in sticky heat, swept across the training ground, and a few strands of hair were lifted by the wind and softly stuck to Shiori Tadano's sweaty cheeks.
She tilted her head back and gulped down the last of her sports drink. She glanced at the three people on the sidelines and patted the empty bottle in her hand. "The last set of sparring is over."
Zenin Maki swiftly put his bamboo sword into its long bag. Panda peeked over the fence, his round head spinning like a rattle, searching for something. Inujuanji stood quietly by, drinking water.
"Shiori, why didn't that guy come today?" Zenin Maki asked first.
These words were like a stone thrown into the calm water. Panda immediately turned his head and his furry ears trembled. Even the dog Juanji, who had been silent, looked up and responded vaguely, "Salmon".
"Did that idiot skip work again?" Zenin Maki frowned.
Shiori shook her head: "The teacher has gone to pick up your new classmates."
She was woken up by a call from Gojo Satoru this morning. He had left a voice message on LINE: "Shiori, please lead the first-year students in training today. I have something super important to do." The message was followed by an emoticon of a cat wearing sunglasses, with its hands in its pockets and its head tilted to the side, smiling. It looked exactly like him.
"New classmate?" Zenin Maki raised her eyebrows.
"I don't know the details," Shiori shrugged, throwing the empty bottle into the recycling bin nearby, "but the teacher said he's a very capable child."
Panda's face was rarely serious. "I heard that he stuffed four classmates into the locker."
Zenin Maki's raised eyebrows suddenly froze, and Inumaki Satoru also widened his eyes slightly, and the hand holding the water bottle paused.
Just as Shiori was about to ask for details, the cell phone in her pocket suddenly rang rapidly. It was Gojo Satoru calling.
"Shiori~ I've already brought the new students to the teaching building, come over here quickly."
"OK."
As the four of them walked towards the teaching building, still chatting about their new classmates, Shiori's phone rang again. The assistant supervisor's anxious voice came through the receiver: "Ms. Tadano, a Level 1 cursed spirit has been discovered in Shinjuku. This is an emergency! Please go to the main gate of the technical high school immediately and wait!"
After hanging up the phone, Shiori turned to the three people and said, "Go ahead, I have an urgent mission."
"Emergency mission?" Zenin Maki frowned, "We need..."
"No need~ I'm super awesome," Shiori reached out and patted her arm, "Don't worry about me, I'll be back soon."
Panda waved his paw and shouted, "Shiori, the mission went smoothly!"
Inujuanji nodded and said, "Salmon."
Shiori smiled, waved her hand, turned and ran away: "Don't fight with the new classmate——"
2.
The car door closed, bringing a gust of wind, and Shiori gently placed the dessert box on her knees.
In the rearview mirror, the street that had just completed its mission was gradually losing its clear outline, and finally shrank into a blurred block of color, being left far behind the car.
"Thank you for your hard work today, Miss Todano." The gentle voice of the assistant supervisor came from the driver's seat. He glanced at her through the rearview mirror, his tone full of fatigue from having just finished a mission.
Shiori nodded, fished out her phone, and unlocked it. The moment the screen lit up, Gojo Satoru's voice message popped up: "Shiori, I'm taking Maki and Yuta to their spellcasting internship. I'll be back later and I'll take you to the principal's office for your induction. Wait for me."
The shadows of the trees outside the car window made her feel sleepy. Shiori leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes. She remembered the day when she first went out for an internship with Gojo Satoru.
At that time, she had just started school and had only a vague understanding of her own skills. She only knew that every time she activated her ability, some small props would appear out of thin air in front of her fingertips, like a magic treasure bag.
What’s even more amazing is that as soon as the item appears, the instruction manual will automatically flood into her mind, but as for what will pop out, she has no idea, just like opening a blind box.
"Don't be nervous, Shiori." Gojo Satoru put his hands in his pockets, shook his head, and said in a relaxed tone, "It's just a second-level cursed spirit. Even if you cause any trouble, the teacher can handle it. I'm the strongest."
As the cursed spirit, covered in gray-green slime, roared and lunged at her, Shiori nervously activated the technique. A pink door appeared from nowhere at her fingertips. Almost instantly, the instructions for its use flooded into her mind.
——【Anywhere Door】Hold the door handle, think of where you want to go, open the door and you will be there.
As she watched the roaring cursed spirit charging towards her, the barrage of "Help" flashed through her mind even more urgently than the cursed spirit's roar. In a fit of rage, she grabbed Gojo Satoru's sleeve and rushed through the door.
The scene behind the door stunned her. It turned out to be the bright and clean medical office of the technical college!
"Senior Glass!"
"Glass!"
Ieiri Naoko was sitting at the table reading documents, the tip of her pen hovering over the paper. When she heard the door open, she looked up and asked, "What new tricks are you guys up to?"
"Just saying hello!" Gojo Satoru smiled and pushed his sunglasses back on. "I'm helping my students with their internship. I'll be leaving now!"
After saying that, Shiori was dragged out the door by Gojo Satoru. As soon as she let go of the door handle, the pink door disappeared, as if it had never appeared.
The two of them stood back in the dark alley, and the cursed spirit in front of them was about to pounce on them.
Gojo Satoru pulled her by the back of her collar and backed off a distance. "It would be quite convenient to escape," he said, nodding his sunglasses, his eyes gleaming mischievously behind the lenses. "But we're here to exorcise the cursed spirit, so we can't run away."
Shiori took a deep breath and concentrated her mind once again to activate the technique. This time, a plastic tunnel fell from her fingertips, landed steadily on the ground, and expanded horizontally at a speed visible to the naked eye, just across the path of the cursed spirit, like a children's facility in an amusement park.
While she was still digesting the instructions, the roaring cursed spirit rushed over and passed through the tunnel unhindered.
A shocking scene occurred. A cursed spirit, as tall as three people, rushed through the tunnel and instantly shrank to the size of a fingernail. Its tiny body was still twisting on the spot. It looked not only harmless but even a little funny.
Shiori was stunned at first, then she raised her foot and stepped on it without hesitation, just like she usually did when she saw G at home.
With a slight sound, the little cursed spirit was easily exorcised.
The slight touch from the sole of her foot made her body stiffen. She looked down at the dark mark and a sense of absurdity surged over her.
She actually exorcised the cursed spirit by crushing G to death? What kind of sorcerer is she?
"Hahahaha!" Gojo Satoru's laughter echoed in the alley. He laughed so hard that he couldn't straighten his back. One hand supported the wall, and the other pointed at her, "Shiori, your technique is too interesting!"
Shiori was even more flustered by his laughter, a blush spreading from her cheeks to her ears. She stamped her feet, as if trying to shake off the delicate sensation, and muttered awkwardly, "I, I didn't expect this to happen."
Hey, hey, hey, are you serious about this?! This is totally wrong, right?!
The battles she imagined for the sorcerers should have been like the protagonists in Jump, shouting out their special moves and charging at each other! Give her that fantasy of passionate fighting back, damn it!
Besides, what about the dignity of cursed spirits? Does the Cursed Spirit Protection Association even exist?! Send me their contact information now! She can definitely write a 500-word complaint report! She'll really explain everything!
3.
The taillights of the auxiliary supervisor's car swayed among the shadows of the trees, like stars crushed by the evening breeze, and in an instant they completely melted into the deepening twilight.
Shiori walked to Gojo Satoru's office door and knocked gently. No one answered. She leaned against the wall next to the doorframe and sent him a message: "I'm at the teacher's office door. I brought you something."
The light tubes in the corridor made a slight crackling sound, and the warm yellow light cast a light shadow on her eyelashes, like a golden edge.
After standing there for a while, I heard brisk footsteps at the end of the corridor, mixed with tuneless humming.
Shiori looked up and saw the tall figure wrapped in white bandages turning the corner, his hands in his uniform pockets, walking slowly towards her.
"Yeah, I made it just in time." Gojo Satoru stopped in front of her, his voice full of joy.
His eyes fell precisely on the dessert box in her hand: "Shiori really brought something good. Is it the new Daifuku? Or the cheese tart?"
Shiori handed the box over: "Neither, I just passed by a new dessert shop and bought it because it looked cute."
Gojo Satoru couldn't wait to open the lid of the box: "Wow, it's a strawberry cake!" Inside the box, pink strawberries were piled up like a small mountain, the snow-white cream was sprinkled with fine powdered sugar, and there were spiral cream flowers on the edge.
"Come in, let's eat together~" He moved aside to make room for her and rubbed her head.
Gojo Satoru stuffed cake into his mouth and mumbled, "Shiori went on a mission. It's a pity that I didn't see Yuta."
"We'll see each other eventually." Shiori picked up the strawberry and took a bite.
Gojo Satoru took out a document from the drawer and handed it to her. She took it and looked at it, and couldn't help but exclaimed: "Special grade?!"
Gojo Satoru smiled and said, "Very impressive, isn't it~"
"That's amazing! This kid is only in the first grade." Shiori exclaimed.
Gojo Satoru nodded: "The ability to be a sorcerer really depends on talent."
Shiori suddenly pulled out her phone, her fingertips rapidly tapping away: "Come on! Ino!"
Ino Takuma: "Why are you suddenly asking me to cheer up?"
Ino Takuma: "But I'll do my best!"
Gojo Satoru stared at the corner of her mouth that turned up, and reached out to poke her face: "What are you doing, Shiori? You're leaving the super handsome Gojo Satoru aside. That's too much."
Shiori looked up and blinked, explaining, "I just suddenly felt a little sorry for Ino."
"Huh? What does this have to do with Ino?" Gojo Satoru looked puzzled.
"He's still in the second grade..." Shiori muttered softly. "My poor classmate, if you knew there's a special grade in the first grade this year, you'd be surprised too. For your own good, I'll hold off on telling you."
Gojo Satoru stood up and walked to the door, then turned to Shiori and said with a smile, "Let's go and get the job application first, my little assistant teacher."
