Chapter 64: Self-love

Chapter 64: Self-conceit

An Ran looked at Hu Zhen's actions and said nothing. In fact, she didn't want to push Chen Jiao to the edge. She had only experienced the apocalypse for about ten days and still had hope for human society. There was still a trace of softness in her heart.

When Hu Zhen had almost packed up all the supplies on the bed, An Ran led Hu Zhen and turned to leave. When they walked out of the ward, they heard Chen Jiao burst into tears behind her. She pointed at An Ran's back and shouted while crying, as if she couldn't bear it anymore:

"An Ran, you bastard, I hate you so much. I am disgusted with you."

"I hate you too!" An Ran tilted her body, glanced back at Chen Jiao, then turned and left.

Hu Zhen behind him sighed, shook his head, grabbed the big bag of food in his hand, and followed An Ran's steps. After they entered the emergency staircase, Hu Zhen said, "An Ran, Chen Jiao, although she is a little squeamish, she is not a bad person. If we do this, she will starve to death."

"Yeah, she's not a bad person. Didn't you give her cookies? How could she starve to death?"

An Ran walked in front, not caring in her heart. Anyway, no matter whether she gave Chen Jiao food or not, Hu Zhen would give it to her in the end, so how could Chen Jiao starve to death? Chewing on Hu Zhen's words, An Ran stopped, put one foot on the steps, looked up at the spiral staircase, and was silent for a long time before saying: "I grew up eating food from hundreds of families. Can you say that those who gave me a bite of food are not bad-hearted? That's because they have extra food, but if they can only eat 70% full themselves, will they be willing to give you 50% full?"

It’s just that no one has reached this point yet.

Then An Ran went upstairs in silence, followed by an equally silent Hu Zhen. After reaching the fifth floor, they could faintly hear the crying of Wawa and He Wen. Both children had woken up.

After feeding the children, changing them into new diapers, and coaxing them to sleep, An Ran and Hu Zhen took a few quilts and spread them next to the flower pots, and slept on the floor in the doctor's office on the fifth floor.

The sky darkened, and the night passed slowly. Anran turned over, and in her sleep, she raised the back of her hand and touched a pot of carnations beside her. It seemed that the leaves of the carnations scratched the back of her hand. She waved her hand away in her sleep, but the leaves did not give in and continued to caress her, as if they were taking advantage of her.

This was a bit too much. A leaf could actually tease a human being? An Ran suddenly woke up in anger. She sat up and stared angrily at the pot of carnations beside her. The flowers were beautiful, but the leaves were motionless.

Who flirted with her?! She was just being sentimental!

The lights on the ceiling flickered. Anran squinted her eyes in a daze. The sudden brightness and dimness of the light made her eyes extremely uncomfortable. After the flickering lights finally went out, she slowly adapted to the situation and sat on the bed in a daze.

Hu Zhen beside him also woke up. In the darkness, he turned his head to look outside the open door, then looked at An Ran who had sat up, and asked, "An Ran, what happened?"

“The power is out!”

An Ran rubbed her eyes, looking at the pitch-black darkness, her body trembling a little. The power was out. For someone who had lived in a world with electricity since birth, what did it mean to have no electricity? It meant that she couldn't see anything! Hu Zhen beside her was a little flustered. In the darkness, he grabbed An Ran's shoulder and asked anxiously, "What should I do, An Ran? The power is out. What should I do?"
