Chapter 147 Classmates
Today, as usual, I went to another company to discuss a partnership. During the meeting, I couldn't help but feel the young project director staring at me strangely. I kept wondering: Did I get something on my face? Or is my tie awry?
As soon as the meeting was over, I quickly packed up and tried to leave. Just a few steps out of the meeting room, someone suddenly grabbed my arm from behind.
I looked back and saw that the person who pulled me was the director who had been staring at me. He actually called out my name.
I was a little confused. I looked at his face carefully. He looked familiar, but I couldn't remember where I had seen him before. "Who are you...?"
"Are you Chen Rui from Class 8, Grade 3, Fengcheng No. 1 Middle School?" Seeing my puzzled look, he added.
I was stunned. Fengcheng No. 1 High School, Grade 3, Class 8? Was she really my high school classmate? I tried searching my memory for this face. I seemed... seemed... to have a vague impression, but I couldn't remember the name. So many years had passed. Back in high school, I was just a nerd cramming away on test papers, and I didn't have close relationships with most of my classmates.
"Yes, I am," I said a little embarrassedly, "What's your name?" I had no choice but to ask.
"I'm Xu Sheng." He smiled and gave me his name, while looking me up and down without hesitation. "I didn't expect it was really you! When I first saw the list, I thought we had the same name!"
That name was like a key, instantly unlocking a corner of my memory. I remembered! There was indeed such a prominent figure in high school. His family seemed to have some money, and his parents had a close relationship with the teachers, often giving them gifts. He also had good grades, and was often praised by the teachers. Crucially, he was a standout in the science class. Thanks to his looks and family background, he had a constant stream of girlfriends, and miraculously, his grades never dropped. But later on, I heard he performed poorly on the Gaokao and went to a less-than-reputable university.
I am familiar with this name simply because I often hear my teacher say "Look at Xu Sheng..." As for him, I don't think I have even spoken a few words to him, so it is normal that I can't remember him.
But now it seems that this guy has maintained himself well and is still very handsome. I guess he is still popular with women.
"Haha, yes, what a coincidence, it's you." Facing such an old classmate who is almost a stranger to me, I really don't know how to greet him and can only laugh dryly.
Xu Sheng, however, looked as if he had discovered something new, his expression exaggerated: "Oh my god! Chen Rui, you've changed so much! Back in high school, you were buried in books all day, so sloppy... Now you look good, pretty handsome!"
This sounded like a compliment, but his scrutinizing eyes and slightly frivolous tone made me feel uncomfortable, as if I was some object that needed his criticism.
"Ahaha, you have to be more polite when you go to college." I scratched my head awkwardly, wanting to end this conversation quickly. I had always had a bad impression of this guy. He had a bad reputation in high school. I heard that he was quite good at deceiving young girls.
We were two people who had no connection in high school, but now we're acting like old friends reuniting. It's so awkward, I just want to disappear immediately.
"And you're doing pretty well now. You're even the president of a company? Awesome!" He started to brag to himself again.
"You are also very capable. You have become a director at such a young age." I really couldn't find the words to say, so I could only mechanically flatter each other.
"Well, my situation isn't that big of a deal. I mostly rely on my dad." He waved his hand casually, then changed the subject, "Oh, by the way, I heard your company is working on a gaming project?"
I was speechless. He was asking about my business secrets? I could only vaguely respond, "Yeah, there is such a project, and it's still in the development stage."
As I spoke, I prayed frantically in my heart: Lin Yan, why haven't you come to save me yet! Have you finished the meeting? ! !
In a moment of urgency, I came up with a perfect excuse to get out of this situation: "Um...Xu Sheng, if there's nothing else, I'll leave first. My partner is still waiting for me."
"Your partner?" Xu Sheng indeed showed an even more curious expression.
"Yes, I'm leaving first. Let's talk later!" I didn't give him another chance to speak and almost ran away.
I could feel his gaze glued to my back, full of meaning.
I ran all the way and slipped directly into the office floor of Lin Yan's company and hid in his office. Only then did I breathe a sigh of relief.
After a while, Lin Yan came back from the meeting. Seeing me curled up in his boss chair, he was surprised and puzzled: "Wow, the sun is rising from the west today? Our baby actually came to the office to wait for me?"
"Don't mention it," I said with a sad face, "I met a difficult person."
Lin Yan's expression changed immediately, and he walked over quickly: "Difficult? Who bullied you?"
"It's not really bullying..." I organized my words. "It's just a high school classmate of mine named Xu Sheng. I ran into him today to discuss a partnership. I'm not familiar with him at all, we barely spoke to each other in high school. But he ended up dragging me along, talking about all sorts of things, like how I've changed a lot and how handsome I am now... It made me feel really uncomfortable, like I was some kind of commodity being judged by him."
After hearing this, Lin Yan's face darkened and his eyes turned cold. "If you don't like him, just ignore him and leave. There's no need to be nice to him."
"That's easy to say," I sighed. "I still have to have a few meetings with their company later, and it's inevitable that we'll have to run into each other again. It's so annoying."
"I'll accompany you to the next meeting." Lin Yan said without hesitation.
My eyes lit up: "Really? Great, hubby! It's settled!"
Lin Yan leaned over and kissed me, her tone a little proud: "Well, you knew to run to your husband first when you encountered trouble. This deserves praise."
I felt a little embarrassed. "Oh, it's mainly because I'm really not good at this kind of social interaction. Talking about cooperation is fine, but this kind of thing that clearly goes beyond the normal social scope is beyond my ability to handle. Our General Manager Lin has to step in."
"My wife, do you mean that I'm good at dealing with these kinds of social situations?" He raised his eyebrows.
"You are more than just good, you are a genius! Extremely amazing!" I praised sincerely.
Lin Yan smiled, though his expression was a little helpless: "Although it doesn't feel like she's praising me...but whatever my wife said, I accept it."
Our laughter echoed through the office. Through the glass window, I saw the staff outside also had relaxed smiles on their faces. It seemed that Mr. Lin was in a good mood today, and no one had to bear the low pressure. How wonderful.
