Chapter 26 The Fall of the Forest God

Chapter 26 The Fall of the Forest God

I:"???"

I looked up in confusion, holding up the phone, completely confused about the situation: "What...what's going on? Where's the message? It was there just now!" Isn't the speed of the withdrawal too weird?

Lin Yan's smile faded completely. He yanked the phone from my hand with lightning speed. The chat with Xiaoyou remained on the screen, the dialog box with the adorable Hello Kitty avatar glaring. Even more glaring was the fact that I hadn't given it a name!

In Lin Yan's eyes, this was just a strange woman (clearly a young woman judging by her profile picture) frantically sending her boyfriend messages late at night. The messages were "junk ads," and they had made Chen Rui so frightened that his face turned pale and he even resorted to negotiating terms to prevent him from reading them! Moreover, after he agreed, she tacitly withdrew all the messages!

All of this is a textbook example of "urgently destroying evidence after being caught"!

Lin Yan felt a rush of icy blood rushing to his head, a chill permeating his limbs and bones. His vision even went dark for a moment. He barely managed to steady himself, suppressing the dull ache that felt like a tearing heart and the ferocious beast threatening to break free. His fingers gripped the phone tightly, his knuckles turning white. He took a deep breath, forcing himself to speak with the last ounce of his sanity, his voice as taut as a fully drawn bowstring:

"Are you ashamed?" He stared at me, his gaze like a knife. "Those 'junk ads'?"

I watched him on the verge of losing control, and my survival instinct made me nod frantically: "Shame! Absolutely shame! You absolutely can't watch this!"

Admit shame? Lin Yan's heart sank even more. How far had it gotten? To make Chen Rui, the fearless and ultimate Zaun powerhouse, feel "ashamed"?

"You took the initiative?" He practically uttered the words through gritted teeth. He was asking about this relationship, these "shameful" exchanges.

Active? I was the one who asked Xiaoyou for a birthday gift! I hesitated for a moment, then nodded: "Yeah... I was the one who took the initiative..." I was the one who took the initiative to provoke Xiaoyou and ask for a gift.

The string of reason in Lin Yan's mind was completely broken!

Initiative? He actually admitted it was initiative! And so "proactive"?!

"Are you that eager?" His voice suddenly rose, tinged with incredible anger and deep-seated heartache. His forced gentle facade completely shattered, revealing the raging storm beneath. His expression was so gloomy it could have dripped water. "To her? To those 'shameful' things?!"

I was completely baffled by his yelling, and coupled with the shock and grievance I felt earlier, I became even more furious: "Why can't I be proactive?! Don't I have the right to be proactive?!"

Do you have this right?

Does he have the right to engage in such "shameful" activities with other women?!

"Chen Rui!" Lin Yan's voice completely changed, a hoarseness bordering on despair and frenzy. The words "you have the right" stabbed him like a poisoned dagger, piercing his most vulnerable spot and crushing all his self-preservation. He abruptly stood up, yanked me, still dazed, from the sofa, and slung me over his shoulder like a sack!

"Lin Yan! Let me go! What the hell are you doing?" I was stunned by his sudden action and struggled with my hands and feet. But Lin Yan, in his fury and despair, was incredibly strong. In just a few steps, he carried me into the bedroom and threw me heavily onto the soft bed.

Before I could even get up, a heavy figure, like a storm, descended upon me. Large, calloused hands roughly grasped my wrists and pinned them above my head. He leaned over, his scarlet eyes fixed on me, churning with an indescribable pain, rage, and a terrifying possessiveness I couldn't fathom.

"Let go? Forget it!" He growled, his voice ripping out from deep within his chest, rough as sandpaper. "Chen Rui, listen to me! I won't let go! Not even if I die!"

A scorching breath hit me, and a punishing kiss descended upon me. It was no longer the tenderness of before, but filled with a vent of pain and a desperate possessiveness. His lips and tongue tore at my lips with irresistible force, leaving me no chance to breathe.

"Ugh... Lin Yan! What are you doing... Ah... It hurts!..." I was terrified by his madness. My violent struggle was like an ant trying to shake a tree under his absolute power. My wrists were gripped so hard that they hurt, my lips and tongue were ravaged by him, and a sharp stinging pain came from the side of my neck.

"Are you born in the year of the dog?!" I screamed in pain, tears streaming down my face. He actually bit me!

“Wuwu…Lin Yan…stop…it hurts…you’re not gentle at all…” I couldn’t hold it in any longer. All the fear, confusion, pain, and huge grievances mixed together and turned into uncontrollable, intermittent sobs and howling. “Asshole…why do you treat me like this…wuwuwu…”

My cries, especially that heart-wrenching "hurt," were like a bucket of ice water, pouring over Lin Yan's mind, which was burned by jealousy and madness. He suddenly stopped all his movements and froze there.

The suffocating feeling of the weight still lingered, the discomfort from being roughly handled palpable. But Lin Yan stopped moving. He pulled himself up, his bloodshot eyes fixed on my tear-stained, pain-distorted face. The madness and violence surging in them receded like a tide, replaced by a vast, almost panic-stricken, feeling of helplessness and heartache.

"Ruirui..." His voice was hoarse and broken, the pain in his eyes clear. He loosened his grip on my wrist, his fingertips trembling as he caressed my tear-soaked cheek, clumsily trying to wipe away the scalding liquid. His force was cautious, a stark contrast to the ferocity of the moment.

"I'm sorry..." He lowered his head, resting his forehead against mine, his hot breath spraying on my face, filled with regret and fear. "It's my fault... I just... I just love you too much... I'm too scared..." His voice choked, "I saw those... I thought..."

His pain and vulnerability were so real that my cries gradually turned into sobs. The pain in my body was still raging, but an even greater confusion surged up.

"What do you think...?" I sobbed, feeling very aggrieved. "I don't understand... I just wanted to prepare a good birthday present for you... What did I do wrong to make you treat me like this? Wuwu... My whole body hurts..."

"Birthday...present?" Lin Yan suddenly raised his head, the pain in his eyes instantly frozen, replaced by great surprise and confusion. He seemed not to have heard clearly and asked again, "You mean...those messages...are...prepared for my birthday?"

"What else?!" I was so angry that I wanted to kick him, but the movement caused me to feel pain. I gasped and tears welled up again. "The fourth brother's girlfriend... Xiaoyou... she said she had good taste... I asked her what to get you... but she sent a bunch of nonsense... something like a little dress with cat ears... It scared me to death!"

Lin Yan was completely petrified. His face flashed through a dazzling array of expressions, from shock and disbelief to sudden realization, finally settling on a rare, almost utterly humiliating embarrassment and shame that he wished he could just disappear. The air was eerily silent, the only sounds remaining were my aggrieved sobs and his increasingly heavy breathing.

He suddenly grabbed the phone I had dropped on the bed, his fingers trembling with fear and embarrassment. He clicked on the Hello Kitty avatar and flipped through the chat history.

Me: [Xiaoyou, Lin Yan's birthday is coming soon. You have good taste. Can you help me think of a suitable gift for him?]

Xiaoyou: [Wow! Brother Rui is giving Master Lin a gift! Leave it to me! I guarantee it will surprise him (xia)! Wait for me! I'll find the link to the amazing gift for you right away!]

Then there are the pile of withdrawn "magic gifts"...

Lin Yan: “…”

He finally understood what "shame" meant.

Understand what "active" means.

Now I understand what “having rights” means.

Realize how outrageous and asshole-like your behavior just now was!

A huge wave of intense shame and utter regret instantly washed over him. His usually calm and gentle face flushed red at a visible rate, even the tips of his ears were red enough to drip blood. For the first time in his life, he experienced what it meant to be "socially dead."

The following period of time was the most difficult, embarrassing, and humble time in Lin Yan's life.

He carefully picked me up, treating me like a rare treasure (even though he had just handled me roughly), and gently placed me on the soft bedding. Then he brought warm water and gently wiped the tears from my face, clumsily massaging my red wrists from being pinched and the side of my neck from being bitten.

"I'm sorry, Ruirui..." "I'm a jerk..." "I was wrong..." "I have dirty thoughts..." "I shouldn't have distrusted you..." "I deserve to die..." These words, which would never normally come out of Lin Yan's mouth, now poured out like they were free. The blush on his face never faded, and he dared not look me in the eye. Like a child who had done something terribly wrong, he could only repeat his apologies and clumsy attempts at comfort over and over again.

In fact, the moment he figured out the shocking mistake, the anger and grievance in my heart were replaced by a strange and powerful sense of secret satisfaction!

The misunderstanding was resolved! Xiaoyou withdrew the link! Lin Yan didn't see those horrific "cat-ear maid JK" scenes! I'm safe! I even got to see Lin Yan's rare cowardly look and massive social demise! This is a blessing in disguise!

But! We can’t just let it go like this!

Seeing him so cautious and regretful, I decided to put on a good show. I closed my eyes, frowned, sniffled occasionally, and deliberately let out tiny cries of pain, expressing my anger, pain, and grievance to the fullest.

"Hiss...be gentle...it hurts so much..."

"……snort……"

"Don't touch me...Aren't you born in the Year of the Dog? Just bite me to death..."

"Preparing gifts is wrong... I won't prepare any more..."

Every sob and every groan made Lin Yan's movements stiffer, his apology voice lower, the blush on his face deeper, and the regret in his eyes stronger.

He clumsily hugged me in his arms, rubbing his chin against the top of my head. His voice was muffled, filled with unprecedented embarrassment and sincere regret: "Ruirui... don't be angry... I was the one who made the mistake... Gifts... as long as they are from Ruirui, anything is fine... I like them all..." He paused, as if afraid that I wouldn't believe him, and hurriedly added, "Really! I like Ruirui the most!"

The villain in my heart was rolling on the ground laughing, but I still maintained an expression of "I'm very unhappy" on my face, and even deliberately turned my head away from him.

Lin Yan became even more anxious. He began racking his brains to offer compliments, from "Rui Rui's vision is unique" to "Everything Rui Rui gives me is the best." He even admitted, at the risk of self-destructing himself, that he was "petty," "jealous," and "abnormally possessive." He promised to absolutely trust me from now on, and if I got jealous again, then... then... (He was stuck, clearly unable to find a suitable punishment).

Seeing him racking his brains and speaking incoherently to coax people, he couldn't hold it back anymore and a very slight curve appeared at the corner of his mouth.

This slight arc didn't escape the eyes of Lin Yan, who had been nervously observing my expression. He seemed to have grasped a lifeline, his eyes instantly brightened, and with a hint of cautious tentativeness, "Rui Rui...are you not angry anymore?"

I immediately put on a stern face and snorted loudly, "I'm angry! My whole body hurts! It's all your fault for being so fierce just now! It was like you wanted to tear me apart!"

Lin Yan's face turned redder, his eyes were erratic, and his voice was as thin as a mosquito: "I'm sorry... next time... I won't do it..."

"There won't be a next time!" I deliberately retorted him, but my body honestly shrank back into his warm arms.

Lin Yan immediately tightened his arms, holding me tightly. He rested his chin on the top of my head and breathed a long, relieved sigh. His deep voice was filled with the relief of surviving a disaster and the cherishment of regaining what he had lost: "Okay... There won't be a next time... Ruirui has the final say."

In the darkness, I leaned in his arms, listening to his gradually steady heartbeat, feeling the warmth and careful care from his body. The little bit of "anger" I had deliberately maintained before quickly disappeared, replaced by a secret, immense sense of satisfaction and security.

Although it was indeed painful and scary just now... but, seeing Lin Yan lose control like this for me, letting go of all his reserve and pride for me, and clumsily but sincerely apologizing and coaxing me... even... those damn shame links, by some strange coincidence, completely disappeared!

I secretly curled up the corners of my mouth, closed my eyes, found a comfortable position in his arms, and muttered softly: "I'm sleepy..."

Lin Yan immediately patted my back gently as if he had received a pardon, his voice so gentle that it could drip water: "Go to sleep, I'll keep you company."

The crisis was resolved, and the misunderstanding ended. As for what gift I gave Lin Yan for his birthday a few days later (certainly not cat ears or a miniskirt), and his surprised expression when he saw the gift, that is another chaotic story.

But right now, listening to the even breathing above my head and feeling the strong arms around my waist, I just hope that the places on my body that he hurt will feel better tomorrow.

(The secret winner, Ruirui, who had begged the Buddha for five hundred years, finally survived the disaster.)
