Chapter 31 Car Accident

Chapter 31 Car Accident

I've never been so panicked in my life.

I was in the game room, killing everyone when I got the call saying Lin Yan had been hit by a car. My phone clattered to the floor, the screen shattering. I didn't even bother to pick it up. My mind was blank, only the word "car accident" screamed in my ears. My heart felt like it was being gripped by an icy hand, squeezing so tightly that I couldn't breathe.

By the time I finally crawled to the emergency room, my legs were weak. I saw Lin Yan lying on the bed, his head bandaged, his calf in a thick cast, and his face covered in scratches. Although he was conscious and gave me a soothing smile, tears welled up in my eyes like a flood, unable to be stopped.

"Why are you crying? Are you stupid?" Lin Yan tried to raise his hand to wipe my tears, but his arm seemed to be twisted, and his movements were a little stiff. His voice was a little hoarse, but his tone was still gentle. "It's just a slight fracture in the tibia, a superficial injury, but I won't die."

"Shut up!" I rushed to the bedside, wanting to touch him but afraid to hurt him. My hands trembled violently in the air. "Did you look before crossing the street? You scared me to death, don't you know that?" A mixture of overwhelming fear and a sense of relief at having survived made me cry like an idiot. The horrific images I'd just had on the road—losing him, never seeing him again, never hearing his voice again—just thinking about them chilled me to the bone. I clutched his good hand so tightly that my knuckles turned white, as if he would disappear if I let go.

Lin Yan took my hand in his own. His fingertips were cold, but his palm was warm. He said nothing, simply stroking the back of my hand with his fingertips. His eyes held a soothing and... a complex emotion I couldn't understand.

For the next two weeks, I became Lin Yan's personal caregiver. I took a leave of absence from school and completely quit gaming. He said he'd fallen behind in classes (bullshit! Why would a genius like him even need to worry about missing classes?), and asked me to "catch up" on his lessons. I didn't believe him! He just wanted me to sit by his bedside, forcing me to study with him! He called it "mutual progress"!

It's true that I bring him lunch, although I usually run out to buy his favorite food (he has a very picky taste), or he orders takeout in advance for me to pick up. The most annoying thing is carrying him to the bathroom! He is tall and has long legs, and half his body weight is on me, and I stumble and fall. This guy is so injured and still refuses to be honest! Every time he leans close to my ear and says in that low, laughing voice:

"Ruirui, hold on tight...don't let me fall."

"Tsk, are you tired?"

"The nurse said that appropriate 'activity' is needed during the recovery period. Ruirui, which kind of 'activity' do you think is better?" The hot air sprayed on my earlobe, and I was so embarrassed that my face turned red and my neck became thick. I really wanted to throw him into the toilet!

Two weeks later, the doctor finally allowed him to go home and recuperate. I struggled to get him into the car, then carried him back to our little home and settled him on the most comfortable sofa in the living room.

I had just put a pillow under his legs and handed him the cup of water. Before I could even catch my breath, I heard this guy say in a low voice:

"Baby... I miss you." His voice was a little hoarse than usual, and his eyes looked at me straight, as if with a hook.

I:"???"

My hand trembled, and the water nearly splashed onto his leg in a cast! My face suddenly burned! Although... although we haven't been close for so long, and I really do miss him... but look at him like this! Scar on his head, leg in a cast, and his arm still a little unsteady! Is this the time to miss him?!

"What are you thinking about!" I yelled back with a red face, trying to hide my rapid heartbeat with a fierce look, "You're still thinking about those trivial things even though you're in this state?! Can you put some serious things in your mind?"

Lin Yan leaned back on the sofa, his plaster leg resting on the cushion, with his usual gentle yet annoying smile on his face. However, his eyes behind the glasses were surprisingly bright, and his smile deepened: "Oh? Could it be that... Ruirui doesn't miss me?" He drew out his words with a hint of mischief.

"..." I was speechless after hearing his question. My eyes wandered, not daring to look at him. Want to...isn't this nonsense!

Seeing that I didn't say anything, Lin Yan leaned forward slightly, lowering his voice with a hint of persuasion: "So... Ruirui, have you missed me particularly during this period? Hmm?"

I felt like a lit firecracker! This question was so embarrassing! I got angry and said, "Nonsense! Isn't it normal to miss you?! What's it to you?"

"Oh," Lin Yan nodded, as if he understood. Then he changed the subject, his eyes becoming extremely ambiguous. "I mean... that kind of... I really, really want it."

I:"!!!"

Help! How could he ask such a question so calmly?! I felt all the blood in my body rush to my head, my ears burning hot enough to fry an egg! Shame overwhelmed me like a tsunami! Although... although one night, when he had been so arousing that I couldn't bear it any more, I secretly tried to alleviate the longing... but the feeling of resolving it on my own was empty and completely wrong...

"Who... who would think about those things for no reason!" I stiffened my neck and yelled back in a timid manner, my voice cracked and I felt extremely guilty.

Lin Yan looked at my flushed face and flickering eyes and chuckled softly, like a fox that had successfully stolen some meat. He reached out, his uninjured hand reaching out naturally, gently pinching my earlobe. His cool fingertips brushed against my skin, stirring a shiver.

"Don't move... I'll hit your leg..." I froze and subconsciously wanted to dodge, but I was afraid that if I moved too much, I would hit his plaster leg.

"It's okay." Lin Yan didn't care. His fingers slid down my neck to the back of my neck, gently stroking it with an unyielding force. His voice was also stained with the hoarseness of passion. "Since Ruirui doesn't want me to move... then how about..." He paused deliberately, his eyes filled with naked invitation and bad teasing, "You take the initiative?"

My head buzzed, and I thought I had misheard: "...What?!"

Lin Yan didn't answer, but used his uninjured hand to slowly take out from behind the sofa cushion (God knows when he hid there!) - a beautifully packaged small box with my favorite game character printed on it.

I stared at the box in amazement, then looked at his triumphant smile. My head was spinning! This guy! He'd planned this all along! His legs were broken, but his brain was still! How the hell could he even think of preparing a gift?!

"Lin Yan! You...!" I was embarrassed, angry, and had an inexplicable throbbing sensation, and I couldn't even speak clearly.

"Surprise." Lin Yan looked at me leisurely and put the box in my hand. "Open it and take a look?"

I looked at his face, the look of complete confidence, the look of complete dominance, then at the heavy gift box in my hand. I felt angry, ashamed, and... shamefully resigned. After a few seconds of silence, finally, under his increasingly intense gaze, I resigned myself to my fate and, with trembling fingers, opened the package.

Inside is the limited edition game collector's set that I have been wanting for a long time but have never been willing to buy.

"You..." I looked up at him, feeling mixed emotions, a mixture of emotion and shame.

Lin Yan smiled with satisfaction, like a child who had finally gotten his favorite toy. He pulled me closer, letting me lean against his good side. His warm breath brushed against my ear, carrying a familiar, comforting scent.

"Now..." His low voice sounded close to my ear, with unquestionable tenderness, "Can I hug you properly?"

My stiffness melted instantly. Biting my lip, I snuggled into his arms with unwavering obedience, burying my head in the crook of his neck. His warmth and scent, long-lost, instantly enveloped me, dispelling all my uneasiness and embarrassment. The gift, the awkwardness, seemed unimportant in that moment.

I hugged him back tightly, carefully avoiding his wounds, greedily absorbing his body temperature and heartbeat. All the messy thoughts just now were thrown out of the window, leaving only a huge sense of satisfaction of regaining what I had lost.

"Ruirui..." He called me softly, his voice low and hoarse.

"Tell me..." He tightened his arms and hugged me even tighter, as if to rub into my bones and blood. There was a hint of imperceptible fragility and deep desire in his voice. "...Is it better for me or for the game?"

The string of reason is completely broken!

Touched, embarrassed, amused by the comparisons, and helpless about his childish and overbearing questions...all the emotions exploded!

"You...you childish thing!" I suddenly raised my head and kissed his lips regardless of anything, responding to him with all my strength, as if I wanted to kiss back this boring question and all the longing brought by separation!

Lin Yan groaned, then took control, deepening the kiss. His good arm wrapped tightly around my waist, holding me tightly against him. Between our lips and teeth, I felt the familiar, shuddering scent and warmth of Lin Yan.

What game? What limited edition?

I just want him!

(In the corner of the living room, Snowball licked his paw gracefully, his blue eyes looking indifferently at the two humans hugging and kissing each other on the sofa. He yawned loudly: Oh, stupid two-legged animals, can they be so sticky for a broken box? Cat strips are still the most practical.)
