Chapter 66 Brother-in-law Addiction
There are nearly twenty people in our group, and I am the seventh.
I watched as the people in front of me went up one by one, copied their PowerPoint presentations, and began to speak. Listening to all that "based on STM32...", "using LabVIEW to implement...", "using MATLAB simulation...", my palms began to sweat profusely again, my mind went blank, and I felt like my heart was about to jump out of my throat.
I couldn't help but look back toward the back of the classroom.
Lin Yan just sat there, his posture relaxed, like a magic needle that stabilizes the sea.
He was looking at me, meeting my gaze, and raised the corners of his mouth in a gentle yet firm arc, silently mouthing to me: "Come on."
This scene was like a shot of adrenaline, calming my pounding heart a little.
Wang Hao next to him was shaking like the last leaf in the autumn wind, his face pale.
However, something unexpected happened to the fifth respondent.
The boy stood up and spoke a few words when he was interrupted by the vice president, who asked a basic technical question.
He stammered, his eyes wandering, and he couldn't form a complete sentence for a long time. He almost wrote "I bought/had this graduation project made for me" on his forehead.
The PPT was also extremely perfunctory, with piles of text and no focus.
The teacher asked him to switch to a key page, but he couldn't even operate the PPT properly and spent a long time looking for it.
The vice-president frowned, and the other teachers' faces also darkened.
Finally, the vice president laughed out loud and knocked on the table, "Alright, classmate. Go back and revise it carefully. Come back and get ready for the next one."
The boy walked off the stage in disgrace as if he had been pardoned, and the classroom was filled with dead silence.
Among the students waiting for the defense, some with poor mental qualities turned pale with fear and tears welled up in their eyes.
The sixth one is even more outrageous.
The content of the PPT did not match the paper he submitted. When the teacher pointed it out, he looked confused.
He couldn't answer any of the questions and just stood there frozen on the stage, his silence was golden. The result was self-evident, he was also "asked" to leave.
Seeing this, my nerves, which had been tense to the extreme, strangely relaxed.
An unprecedented sense of confidence arose from the bottom of my heart.
I spent countless sleepless nights in front of the computer, debugging, and modifying my graduation project bit by bit!
I understand every module, every step, and every question clearly!
So what if the vice president is an expert? I have a clear conscience!
I took a deep breath and walked up to the podium.
He opened the PPT with a swift movement. When the screen lit up and the PPT, which had been "castrated" by Lin Yan to be extremely clean and concise, appeared, I even saw the vice president raise his eyebrows slightly.
"Hello, teachers. I'm Chen Rui. The topic of my graduation project is..."
I picked up my page-turner, my voice booming and my words clear, radiating the aura of a gamer commanding a teamfight. My thoughts flowed smoothly, the key points were highlighted, and the key data and charts were clearly displayed.
The teachers on the podium, especially after experiencing the previous two "Crouching Dragon and Phoenix Chicks", looked at me with obviously different eyes.
During the question-and-answer session, the questions asked were very technical and to the point.
Although I was nervous, my mind was working quickly and I answered all the questions clearly based on my own practical experience.
One of the teachers, who had been looking grumpy until then, seemed to be appeased by my performance and actually asked a particularly amusing question: "Chen Rui, guess what this (pointing to a device icon on the PowerPoint) is called in technical terms? I'll give you three options: A. Ammeter B. Voltmeter C. Oscilloscope."
I:"……"
I raised an eyebrow and tried not to laugh.
Please! My graduation project is about environmental monitoring, which is centered around sensors and communication protocols. It has nothing to do with voltage and current measurement!
This icon is clearly an oscilloscope! Is this teacher just being pissed off by the two guys in front of him and trying to liven things up?
I cleared my throat and answered seriously: "Teacher, this device is an oscilloscope in my system. The other options you gave...well...have little to do with my design." After saying that, I smiled politely.
A few suppressed laughs rang out from the audience. The teacher who asked the question also laughed at it, nodded, and didn't ask any more questions.
Finally, several mentors exchanged a few words in a low voice, and their expressions were obviously much more relaxed.
The vice president nodded at me and said, "Okay, that's enough. Next one."
I felt so relieved that my back was soaked with sweat.
He packed up his things and walked down the stage calmly.
As soon as I walked out of the classroom, Lin Yan, who was waiting in the hallway, came over to meet me. My tense nerves instantly relaxed, and my pent-up emotions turned into an elbow (not hard) that hit his arm: "Damn! I was scared to death! I didn't expect the result to be like this! After watching those two Crouching Dragon and Phoenix Child, my confidence is soaring! I feel like I can beat ten of them!"
Lin Yan burst out laughing at my amusement, and hugged me in his arms, his voice full of undisguised pride and doting: "I didn't expect them to be so 'brave'! But my Ruirui is so handsome! He stood on the stage and spoke eloquently, clearly and with such a powerful aura! He almost drove me crazy! I recorded it and will show it to you when I get home!"
"Huh? You even recorded it?!" I looked up at him in surprise, my face flushed. "Who would record a defense with their family?! How shameful!"
Lin Yan lowered his head and kissed my forehead, his eyes gentle and serious: "I want to participate in every important highlight of my wife's life and record it. I will look back at it slowly when I am old."
As he was speaking, his phone vibrated. It was a message from Wang Hao, and his excitement could be felt even through the screen:
[WTF, Brother Rui!!! That's awesome!!! Thanks to you!!! I was teaching right after you! The teachers were probably appeased by you, and since our topics were similar, they just asked me a couple of innocuous questions and let me go! Thank you, Brother Rui, for saving my life!!!]
I looked at the news and didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Well, those who came before us planted trees (scare the teacher), and those who came after us will enjoy the shade (pass the test easily).
This defense ended…perfectly (and dramatically)! The last huge burden that weighed on my four years of university has finally been completely lifted! Sunny days seem to be just around the corner!
When it was Lin Yan's turn to defend his thesis, this guy's "brother-in-law addiction" came back and he insisted that I accompany him.
I just want to tear his head off and kick it like a ball!
"No, no! It's too embarrassing!" I sternly refused. "Your teachers and classmates all know you, but I don't know any of them. I'm just going to sit there like an idiot and be a background figure? I'm so embarrassed!"
Lin Yan, however, was relentless, constantly pestering me. From "Honey, you don't love me anymore" to "witness your husband's glorious moment," and then to that moment at night, while doing it, she whispered in my ear, "Baby... come with me... okay? Hmm?... I want you to watch me..."
"Lin Yan! You... you've had enough!" I was filled with shame and anger at his shameless behavior, yet he still controlled my body, unable to resist. For days, he harassed me in various ways (including but not limited to sexual temptation and sexual threats). I was so fed up that I finally gave in through gritted teeth: "...Okay, okay! Go! I'll go, okay! Shut up!"
On that day, as soon as I stepped into the floor where the defense classroom was located, I regretted it.
He wished he could disappear right there. But in the end, Lin Yan pulled him hard and practically dragged him into the classroom.
"Lin Yan! Let go! I can walk by myself!" I struggled with a low voice, feeling that everyone's eyes were focused on our pulling hands.
However, after entering, I found that there were quite a few people sitting sparsely in the back row of the classroom, and they all seemed to be "students' families."
I finally breathed a sigh of relief, because it turned out that I was not the only one in the "family group".
I found a corner seat and just sat down, trying to make myself less noticeable, when a tall, capable girl next to me took the initiative to greet me with a bright smile:
"Hi! You're Chen Rui, right? Lin Yan's boyfriend?" She said in a friendly tone, "I often hear him mention you."
I was a little surprised and nodded quickly in response: "Yes, yes, hello. May I ask who you are...?"
"I used to work in the same lab with Lin Yan, and now I'm a graduate student at this school." She smiled, revealing her neat white teeth. "Just call me Li Wei."
"Hello, Senior!" I hurriedly greeted her, but a strange sour feeling welled up inside me. Sharing a lab with Lin Yan... spending every day together... doing experiments together... discussing problems... would that...?
I shook my head, trying to dispel these wild thoughts, and forced a dry smile on my face: "Senior sister, are you here to watch Lin Yan's defense?"
Li Wei burst out laughing, with a hint of sarcasm: "Why should I look at him? He is your husband! I am here to see my wife!" As she said that, she nodded towards a seat in the front row.
I followed her gaze and instantly felt like the top of my head was struck by lightning!
I saw a girl sitting quietly in the front row.
She has a cool temperament and sits upright, with long straight black hair draped softly behind her shoulders. Her profile is graceful and she wears thin-framed glasses. She exudes an aura of high intelligence, aloofness and calmness.
Lin Yan's lab...it's full of hidden dragons and crouching tigers! Hidden dragons and crouching tigers! I was scrolling through my mind like crazy.
"Ah... y-how long have you been together?" I was stuck for a moment, feeling like there was too much information.
"About three years, right?" Li Wei thought for a moment, then said with a touch of emotion, "Ah, time flies."
Three years... Lin Yan and I have only been dating for two years, but it feels like half a lifetime has passed, and we have been through so many things.
As we were chatting, Lin Yan walked over. He had just been debugging equipment at the podium, but now he walked straight up to me, a look of dissatisfaction and grievance on his face, as if he had been ignored. He put his arm around my waist and said, "Baby, I was waving to you just now, and you didn't even see me."
I blushed a little at his sudden intimacy and pointed at Li Wei: "I'm chatting with my senior."
Li Wei immediately teased, "Oh, I really can't stand that person! Can you give your wife some private space and social freedom? She's so jealous!"
As soon as she finished speaking, the cool girl in the front row also came over.
She stood beside Li Wei, her eyes lightly sweeping over me and Lin Yan, with no expression on her face, but her tone carried a barely perceptible hint of accusation, exactly the same as Lin Yan's...?
"Senior," she said in a clear voice, looking at Li Wei, "Why are you always talking to others and not looking at me?" After saying that, she turned to me and Lin Yan, her eyes questioning, "Who are they?"
Lin Yan and I looked at each other and saw smiles in each other's eyes.
OK, here comes another jealous person! And a cool one at that!
The teasing look on Li Wei's face disappeared instantly, and her tone immediately became extremely gentle, with a coaxing tone: "Oh my baby, this is my junior in the laboratory, Lin Yan, and his boyfriend Chen Rui. We just happened to meet and say hello." She gently touched the girl's hand.
The girl (whose name I later learned was Su Qing) finally relaxed her expression and nodded slightly to Lin Yan and me: "Hello."
Li Wei seemed to have finally remembered something important, and helplessly held her forehead with her hand. "Enough, you two, you're just like little kids. Look at the way you two look, who would have thought that you'd be on stage for a defense soon? And you, Lin Yan, I remember you were pretty close to the front, right?"
I quickly agreed: "Yes, yes, Lin Yan, go get ready!"
After finally sending these two "sticky teeth" away, Li Wei sat back down next to me, putting on a helpless expression like "a jealous person at home is a sweet burden": "Alas, kids, they just have sticky teeth."
As I listened, I remembered that Lin Yan was actually two months younger than me, and how she usually acted like a spoiled brat in front of me. I couldn't help but smile, "I understand."
