Chapter 79 Mourning

Chapter 79 Mourning

Lin Heng's back, curled up in the quilt, was like a bird with its wings wet by a rainstorm, trying in vain to hide itself.

Seeing him like this, any more questions seemed futile. I sighed, whispered a few more words like "Take care of yourself" and "Think carefully," and then left the room filled with dejection and secrecy.

Standing in the empty and somewhat cold corridor of the mansion, I felt a deep fatigue seeping through my bones.

The sunlight shines through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows onto the smooth marble floor, dazzling and distant.

This magnificent cage seemed to have given Lin Heng everything, but it also seemed to have made him bear something heavier and more twisted.

At noon, Lin Yan came back.

I was curled up in bed, my fingers mechanically sliding across the screen of my mobile phone, but my mind was wandering somewhere else.

"Honey, do you miss me?" He rushed over with a smile and gave me a tight bear hug. His warm breath dispelled the chill from my body.

"Just a few hours." I answered in a muffled voice. I was a little breathless in his embrace, but I felt strangely at ease.

Thinking of the muddy water in Lin Heng's room and Qin Zheng's unpredictable face, the man holding me in front of me is like a piece of warm jade.

"Huh? How can the baby talk like that?" He pinched my face and pretended to be dissatisfied.

"...I missed you." I raised my head and kissed him on the lips.

There was a sense of urgency in seeking comfort as they leaned against each other.

Lin Yan was obviously stunned, and then a light of surprise flashed in his eyes. He immediately kissed her back passionately, as if he had received some great reward.

"Baby, I miss you too," he said vaguely while kissing her, "The old man was busy dragging me around everywhere and couldn't spend time with you."

"You haven't been back for so long, it's only natural that your dad would look for you." I stepped back a little and looked into his smiling eyes that were so close to me.

"Fortunately, he did introduce me to a few key people this time."

Lin Yan was in a very good mood. He took out a few exquisitely designed business cards from his pocket and waved them in front of me. "Covering different fields, the future will be much wider."

"That's great, Lin Yan." I said sincerely, happy for him.

"What's wrong, baby?" He keenly caught the subtle hint of depression in my tone and stroked my brow with his fingers. "You seem a little down? Are you really bored?"

"Well... didn't I tell you that I missed you?" I mumbled, burying my face in the crook of his neck.

"Bored?" He chuckled and ruffled my hair. "Where's that brat Lin Heng? Didn't he play with you?"

When I mentioned Lin Heng, my heart skipped a beat: "He... is still sleeping."

"What time is it?" Lin Yan frowned, his tone carrying a bit of the authority of an older brother, "Why is this kid still sleeping? He's getting more and more unreasonable."

"Ah, maybe... I stayed up late playing games last night."

I quickly found the most common excuse and sighed silently in my heart, thinking that being a sandwich is really tiring.

"And, husband," I raised my head, looked at him, and lowered my voice, "I like you so much."

The smile in Lin Yan's eyes deepened, as if they were filled with stars: "What happened to our Ruirui today? Is he suffering from separation anxiety?"

"No," I shook my head, wrapped my arms around his neck, and whispered in his ear, "It just feels... It's so nice to be with someone I truly love."

As soon as I said it, I regretted it.

This directionality is too obvious!

Sure enough, Lin Yan's eyes darkened instantly, with a knowing smile and a burning warmth in his eyes: "So... you deserve to be fucked..."

His breath brushed against the shell of his ear, carrying a dangerous signal, "These past two days... I really haven't fed you enough."

"Lin Yan! It's daytime now!" I tried to push him away, my face burning.

"Don't worry," he chuckled, easily dispelling my resistance. His tall body pressed down with unquestionable strength, "There's no one in the living room right now."

...He hugged me from behind, a scorching kiss on my neck, his fingers forcefully suppressing my threatening scream. It felt like I was being carried to the clouds.

After this ridiculous incident, my legs were so weak that I could hardly stand.

I held my waist and suggested taking Lin Heng out for dinner to relax and escape from the scene where the "accident" had just happened.

When we dug Lin Heng out of bed, he looked listless and his eyes were dark and dark from not sleeping well.

Lin Yan couldn't help but pat him on the back of the head: "Little ancestor, did you go crazy playing games last night? Why are you so listless today?"

After these words were spoken, Lin Heng and I fell into strange silence for a moment.

"Haha," Lin Heng laughed dryly first, forced himself to cheer up, and grabbed my arm, "Yeah! Who told you not to let your sister-in-law play with me? I feel empty, lonely and cold!"

Now it was Lin Yan's turn to remain silent. He narrowed his eyes and looked at Lin Heng's hand that was holding my arm: "...I didn't expect you to have this habit?"

I was stunned and didn't react.

"Nothing tastes better than dumplings, and nothing is more fun than..." Lin Heng said with a smile, but before he could finish his words, I interrupted him with a "Fuck!"

There was a lot of noise along the way, and Lin Heng made some jokes, which barely livened up the atmosphere.

When he arrived at the restaurant, he seemed to be very hungry and buried his head in the food to eat. After all, he probably didn't eat a single bite of the breakfast that someone had "carefully" brought him in the morning.

Halfway through the meal, Lin Heng suddenly stood up and ran out, and came back a moment later with a bunch of white lilies in simple packaging.

The playful expression on his face subsided a little, and he winked at his brother: "Brother, today... let's go see mom?"

Lin Yan was obviously stunned for a moment, and a complex emotion flashed across his eyes.

He was silent for a moment, then reached out and held my hand tightly, his palm warm and firm. "Okay."

Lin Yan drove the car into a quiet and solemn cemetery with ease.

It rained yesterday, and today's sunshine is cool and refreshing, shining on the neat rows of tombstones.

In front of his mother's tombstone, there was a bouquet of flowers that had long since withered and died.

Lin Heng silently moved the bouquet of withered flowers away and carefully placed the fresh white lilies in his arms in the center of the tombstone.

"Mom," Lin Heng's voice was much lower than usual, with a rare solemnity, "Today, my brother, his wife...my sister-in-law, and I came to see you."

He paused, his eyes sweeping over me. "Don't underestimate him because he's a man. He's really nice to me. If you meet him, you'll definitely like him, too."

He sniffed, his eyes slightly reddened, "Mom...are you okay over there?" His voice was a little choked, and he didn't say anything else. He just pushed Lin Yan and said, "Brother, go ahead."

Lin Yan let go of my hand, walked forward, and slowly knelt down in front of the tombstone.

The cold stone bricks sent a chill through the thin pants.

He reached out his hand and gently brushed his fingertips across the gentle black and white photo on the tombstone.

"Mom, I'm here to see you." His voice was low and steady, yet filled with deep emotion. "This is my boyfriend, Chen Rui."

He turned around and looked at me, his eyes gentle but firm, "I love him very much, and he loves me too. He should be the one for me in this life."

He paused, as if confiding in his mother, or perhaps confirming with himself, "Don't worry, his family treats me very well. This kid Lin Heng..."

He glanced at his brother who had red eyes and said, "From now on, he'll have another brother to look after him. You should worry less."

He was silent for a few seconds, as if gathering his courage, before speaking again, his voice trembling slightly, "Mom...thank you. Thank you...for teaching me how to love."

These words, like a key, gently opened a long-closed corner in his heart.

I looked at Lin Yan's back as he kneeled in front of the cold tombstone, and his slightly red eyes, and a sour warm feeling surged in my heart.

He rarely expressed his longing for and gratitude to his mother so directly.

I feel that I should also express my respect to this woman whom I have never met but who has shaped Lin Yan's soul.

I walked forward and knelt down beside Lin Yan.

The cold touch instantly invaded my knees.

I looked at the woman in the photo with gentle eyes and a faint smile, took a deep breath, and said:

"Auntie, I'm Chen Rui."

"I'm Lin Yan's boyfriend."

"You took very good care of him."

My voice was a little dry as I struggled to form my words. "He's very good, really very good. He brought me a lot... a lot of things I never imagined. I heard him talk about you. You are a... an extremely outstanding woman. I admire you very much."

"Auntie," I paused, my voice firmer, "Although I am a man, I... may not be able to give birth to children for him, but..."

I turned my head to glance at Lin Yan beside me. He was looking at me deeply, with emotions in his eyes that I couldn't understand. "My love for him is no less than anyone else's."

"Just leave Lin Yan... to me." After saying that, I kowtowed three times solemnly in front of the tombstone.

His forehead touched the cold ground with an almost pious commitment.

"Ruirui..." Lin Yan's voice was nasal. He reached out and held my hand tightly. The strength was so strong that it almost hurt, but the warmth was extremely soothing.

Three people stood before the tombstone, their silent silhouettes outlined by the sunlight, the air filled with the cool fragrance of lilies and the scent of earth.

Lin Yan held my hand tightly and never let go. Lin Heng lowered his head and his shoulders shrugged slightly.

They each have their own thoughts, yet are connected by the same invisible bond.

It was not until dusk fell and the cold grew deeper that we turned away in silence from this land where we had placed our longing.
