Chapter 99 Su Family
After enduring the last two days that felt like a year, Lin Yan is finally coming back!
To show my sincerity and give him a surprise, I decided to drive to the high-speed rail station to pick him up in person!
To be honest, this decision was a bit impulsive. Although I have had my driver's license for a while, I have very little practical experience.
I usually go to school on foot or by shared bicycles. Occasionally, I drive under the supervision of Lin Yan, the co-pilot, acting as a "mobile roadblock."
Driving on the highway alone? Just thinking about it makes my palms sweat.
But... Lin Yan is back from a business trip! Grit your teeth and fight!
Along the way, I was fully focused and highly nervous. I held the steering wheel tightly and my palms were sweaty.
I turned the navigation volume up to the maximum, and my heart skipped a beat every time a car passed by in the lane next to me.
I finally arrived at the high-speed rail station parking lot with trepidation. After parking the car, I felt my back was wet.
I looked at the time and found that I was a few minutes later than expected because of my "careful driving".
Lin Yan has already sent the arrival information and description of his attire.
I quickly ran towards the exit, and from a distance, I caught a glimpse of that tall and familiar figure among the bustling crowd.
My heart exploded with joy, my mouth wide open, and I was about to quietly run over and give him a bear hug from behind...
His footsteps suddenly stopped.
Lin Yan was not alone. There was a woman standing in front of him.
The woman was tall, with meticulously styled long, wavy hair. She wore sunglasses that half covered her face, and a sharply tailored trench coat. She possessed a powerful aura, a domineering air that kept strangers at arm's length, and... a sense of charm? They seemed to be conversing.
A sour feeling of doubt and vigilance suddenly surged up, bubbling like small bubbles.
Who was it? Lin Yan knew such a person? And they were chatting?
I suppressed the discomfort in my heart, adjusted my breathing, and walked over. Just as I took a few steps closer, Lin Yan turned sideways and revealed his face.
My heart sank.
His expression... was very ugly.
His brows were furrowed, his lips were pressed into a cold, hard line, and his eyes contained a coldness and impatience that I rarely saw.
Lin Yan is a gentle and calm person most of the time. Anyone who can make him show such an undisguised expression of disgust is definitely not a good person.
When he saw me approaching, the frost on his face quickly faded as if melted by the sun, and his eyes softened instantly, even with a hint of imperceptible fatigue and dependence.
He reached out his hand to me, his voice was familiar and gentle, with a soothing tone: "Baby, you're here."
I nodded, the sourness in my heart was replaced by worry, and my eyes couldn't help but look at the woman with a strong aura.
Lin Yan didn't look at me, his gaze still fixed on the woman, but his tone became unusually stiff, as if he was introducing an unpleasant item: "This is my aunt."
Aunt... Mom? I was stunned.
This woman is so well maintained that she looks to be in her early thirties at most. How could she be Lin Yan's aunt?
"Hello, Auntie." I suppressed the strange feeling in my heart and called out obediently. I still had to have basic courtesy.
The woman—Aunt Sue?—slowly took off her sunglasses, revealing a pair of delicately painted eyes.
Her gaze was like a searchlight, ruthlessly scanning me from head to toe, with a condescending and...critical look in her eyes, as if she were assessing the value of a commodity.
"You are Lin Yan's boyfriend?" She spoke. Her voice was pleasant, but the tone made people uncomfortable. "Lin Yan is good. He doesn't have the airs of Master Lin."
These words sounded like compliments, but upon closer inspection they held a sting, as if mocking me for being just an ordinary person who was not worthy of the title of "Young Master Lin".
My heart skipped a beat. Sure enough, the person who came had bad intentions.
Lin Yan's eyes instantly turned cold, like ice.
His voice was not loud, but it carried an unquestionable sense of oppression. "I think as a member of the Su family, you don't have the right to tell me what to do, right?" He deliberately emphasized the three words "Su family".
The woman's smile froze for a moment, then deepened again, with a hint of false concern: "At least your mother is Su Ping, right? Your mother's last name is Su."
She seemed to be emphasizing some kind of blood connection.
"Heh," Lin Yan uttered a short and sarcastic sneer, "Hasn't the Su family, as big as it is, been unable to accommodate my mother for a long time? My mother is now a member of the Lin family." His tone was firm and he would not tolerate any objection.
The woman narrowed her eyes, a hint of offense flashing through them, but it was quickly covered up by a smile: "She's my sister after all, can't I take care of her child?"
"I don't care how you mock me or discipline me," Lin Yan completely tore off the false courtesy, his voice as cold as ice, "but if you point fingers at my lover,"
He took a step forward, his eyes sharp as a knife, "I wouldn't mind digging up some old scores and settling them properly."
The two words "old accounts" were emphasized very strongly, with an obvious threat.
Aunt Su's face paled from choking. She whipped off her sunglasses, her beautiful eyes now filled with undisguised malice and resentment. She glared at me, as if this was all my fault. "Oh!" she scoffed, her voice shrill. "You Lin family are all lovestruck! And your dad, you're just pretending to be affectionate, using a double as a figurehead!"
"At least it's not like your Su family," Lin Yan shot back mercilessly, his tone contemptuous, "so cold and without a trace of humanity."
Aunt Su knew that continuing would only bring shame upon herself. She glared at Lin Yan fiercely, then stared at me with that venomous look in her eyes. She snorted coldly, turned around, and walked away in a hurry in her high heels, leaving behind an angry back.
I was stuck in the middle, like a background board the whole time, not even daring to breathe.
What about the Su and Lin families, what about the old accounts of stand-ins... I was so confused after listening to them. I felt like I had accidentally walked into a melodramatic drama about the feuds between wealthy families.
These are too far away from my life.
Lin Yan immediately turned around and hugged me tightly in his arms, holding them tightly with a touch of comfort and fear.
"Honey, don't mind her," he said, his chin resting on the top of my head, his voice muffled, filled with fatigue and annoyance. "She's just like that, always annoying. Crazy and insane."
I shook my head and hugged him back.
His reaction said it all. He had no good feelings towards the so-called aunt and was even full of disgust.
Why should I care? I just feel sorry for him, as he encountered such a horrible thing right after getting off the high-speed train.
I pulled the car keys from my pocket and thrust them into his hand. "Here, the keys. Let's go! I'm not feeling comfortable here."
I couldn't help but complain, "Oh, the feuds between you wealthy families are really inexplicable!"
Lin Yan took the key and held my hand tightly, his palm warm and strong.
We walked side by side to the parking lot, and he explained in a low voice as we walked: "I was waiting for you at the exit, and who knew I would run into her by chance. She came over to say hello, with an expression of 'Long time no see, I missed you so much', and even said something like 'What a pity', even though the Su family and the Lin family had clearly cut off contact a long time ago." His tone was full of sarcasm.
"She knew you were dating a guy a long time ago?" I got the point.
"That should be it. Who knows where she got the information from, or maybe she just came here to cause trouble because she saw me with someone."
Lin Yan said in an irritated tone, "Who I'm with is none of her business. She's really meddling in other people's business."
When we walked to the car, Lin Yan naturally opened the passenger door for me, protected my head and let me sit in.
He leaned in and carefully fastened my seat belt.
The distance was too close, and his familiar scent, mixed with a bit of travel dust, instantly enveloped me.
After fastening my seatbelt, he didn't immediately pull away, but instead quickly stole a kiss on my cheek.
"!" We hadn't had intimate contact for so long, and this sudden kiss made my face suddenly hot and my heartbeat quickened.
He looked at my blushing face, chuckled, then closed the car door and walked around to the driver's seat.
