Chapter 53 Chapter 53 "Can you continue to like me...
After Lu Hean went in, he dragged a stool for himself.
The doctor, still typing away on his computer, politely asked without turning his head, "What are the symptoms?"
"My gland was injured before and it's been a bit painful lately. I came to take a look." Lu Hean answered honestly.
When he heard the sound, the doctor turned his head, looking a little surprised.
Lu Hean noticed this keenly and asked with a smile, "What's wrong?"
The doctor looked at him for two seconds and asked coldly, "Don't you remember me?"
Lu Hean paused for a moment, then his smile deepened. "How dare I forget Dr. Qiu? I came here specifically to make an appointment with you. How have you been lately?"
"It's fine, just like before. Stand up and show me your glands." Qiu Tingxuan put on gloves and stood up. He placed his fingers on the skin on the back of Lu Hean's neck and pressed.
There was nothing abnormal on the surface of Lu Hean's gland, except for a faint mark left by an old wound. Judging from the degree of healing, it must have been quite old.
"Does it hurt when I press it? Or does it hurt even when I don't press it? It seems like your scar has been healing for a long time. Is there any psychological factor involved?"
Psychological factors?
Lu Hean immediately thought of the information that Yu Jingheng had let slip.
Qiu Tingxuan just happened to think of something interesting. He took off his gloves and said, "Let's observe for a while. But aren't you worried about scarring? Why don't you get repair surgery for the scar on your gland?"
Lu Hean felt this scar only after he felt a dull pain on the back of his neck.
He didn't know when it had happened, he couldn't remember. He had forgotten... so it must have happened during the period of amnesia.
What we can guess at the moment is that he and Pei Shuyu knew each other during his amnesia.
The person in front of them obviously knew both of them, and perhaps he could get some information out of them.
Lu Hean straightened his collar, sat back down, and lied calmly, "People change. Now that I think about it, scars are nothing."
"Really? That's not your attitude towards Pei Shuyu." Qiu Tingxuan said lightly, turned off the computer, and closed the pen cap - he was about to get off work.
As the conversation got back to the past, Qiu Tingxuan continued, "When Pei Shuyu had a scar, I don't know who asked me to jump the queue to repair it. Because of this, Meng He kept complaining to me for a while."
Is there such a thing? But he clearly remembered that Pei Shuyu had a scar on the palm of his hand...
"How is your relationship now?" Lu Hean suddenly asked.
Qiu Tingxuan paused for a moment and said calmly, "I'm fine." Then he asked, "How about you guys?"
Lu Hean smiled back, "Shuyu and I are doing fine. Are you leaving? We haven't seen each other for a long time. It's rare for me to come to Hong Kong City, why don't you go to my house and catch up? Shuyu is here too."
Qiu Tingxuan continued to pack his things. "Today? I might want to ask Meng He for his opinion."
"Okay." Lu Hean stood up, still trying to get some more information. "I didn't drive here, could you please take me back?"
"Um."
When the two opened the door and went out, they saw Meng He and Pei Shuyu sitting very close to each other, and they didn't know what they were talking about.
I called out, but neither of them responded. Maybe they were too engrossed in the conversation.
Lu Hean walked over and only heard a few words.
"What are you talking about? What kind of person is Captain Pei?"
"That's just right. You don't need me to take you home. Lu Hean, your boyfriend is here to pick you up."
“…”
Now Pei Shuyu is the person in the audience who most wants to dig a hole and bury himself.
Even Meng He didn't expect that, "Husband, you speak so quickly?"
He looked at Pei Shuyu with some apology, clasped his hands together, and bowed vigorously. Then he quickly fled the scene with Qiu Tingxuan.
She left so abruptly, leaving him in big trouble.
Perhaps it was a psychological effect, but Pei Shuyu felt the smell of disinfectant in the corridor was even stronger. He lowered his head, not daring to look Lu Hean in the eye.
Lu Hean still stood there, his gaze heavy on him, as if to nail him to the spot.
Pei Shuyu had just taken a few steps when a voice with no discernible emotion came from behind him, asking, "Where are you going?"
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "It's tiring to investigate this case. Go back to your home and rest for a while."
What do you mean by your home and my home? Did Pei Shuyu deliberately make such a clear distinction between them?
"Shall I take you there?" Lu Hean looked at him, as if trying to extract more information from his feigned calmness. He spoke slowly, enunciating each word, "Boyfriend?"
“…”
Pei Shuyu suddenly asked, "Do you want to know how the scar on your gland came about?"
When I said this, I felt a little self-destructive.
Lu Hean couldn't continue to pester him. Pheromone disorder was no joke. They should go their separate ways and live their own lives.
"Let's talk in the car." Lu Hean turned around first and walked in front.
Pei Shuyu took a few deep breaths, took a few steps, and grabbed Lu Hean's wrist, "Let's talk about it right here."
"To tell you the truth, you guessed it right. We talked about it before."
Before Lu Hean could feel happy for even two seconds, he heard Pei Shuyu continue speaking.
"But I got tired of it. I'm not crazy. Who wants to date an alpha? So I wanted to break up with you, but you didn't want to, so you kept pestering me. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore and we fought, and that's when I accidentally injured your gland."
Lu Hean didn't believe it: "Pei Shuyu, you really want to avoid me, you can make up any nonsense."
"I don't have to lie to you."
"Really?" Lu Hean took a step closer. "You don't have to tell me this. Before I remember, I won't believe a single word you say."
Pei Shuyu frowned and tilted his head: "Believe it or not, but I want to collect the pheromones on your body. They smell terrible."
It was unknown which word in this sentence irritated Lu Hean. He suddenly pinched Pei Shuyu's chin and forced him to look up. "You said my pheromones smell bad?"
Pei Shuyu broke free, his voice cold: "Yes, I don't like it. As for what I just said, I don't know how to make you believe it. Otherwise, you should call Yu Jingheng now to verify it and ask him what happened back then."
Lu Hean stared at him for a long while, then suddenly laughed: "Pei Shuyu, the more you act like this, the more I think you're lying to me." He slowly stepped back, "You don't have to keep saying these things to provoke me. I'll remember it sooner or later. What you hear from others is always a little different."
Pei Shuyu was almost irritated by Lu Hean's stubbornness. He rubbed his brows, his tone revealing a deep sense of powerlessness: "Lu Hean, think whatever you want. I'm really tired now and need to go back to rest."
He turned around and was about to leave, but Lu Hean grabbed his wrist again.
"I'll take you there." Lu Hean's tone brooked no refusal, and the strength in his hands was just right, neither hurting him nor making it impossible for him to break free. "I drove here."
Pei Shuyu tried to shake it off but failed, staring at him: "No, I can take a taxi."
"I suddenly remembered that I forgot to bring my car keys. Please give me a ride." Lu Hean raised his eyebrows. "Boyfriend." He deliberately dragged out the sound of the three words with a hint of teasing.
Pei Shuyu's ears felt hot, perhaps because he was angry, or maybe because of something else. He gritted his teeth and said, "Lu Hean, have you lost your memory and your thick skin?"
"Maybe." Lu Hean readily agreed and pulled him towards the elevator. "After all, you don't even remember your boyfriend, so it's normal to be a little thick-skinned."
Pei Shuyu was choked by him and couldn't speak. He struggled to get free but couldn't, so he could only be dragged away by him semi-forcedly.
"Can you please let me go? I can walk by myself..."
"Pei Shuyu." Lu Hean's voice suddenly rang out in the quiet corridor. Without the previous teasing and pressure, it seemed a little solemn. "Even if what you said is true..."
"Now I have lost my memory... I don't remember any of that. I don't care about what you did to me before. Can you still love me?"
Pei Shuyu's heart felt like it was being pinched unexpectedly, aching and swollen. He pushed Lu Hean away, saying, "No." He rushed into the elevator as if escaping, pressing the first floor button with his fingertips, as if this would block out Lu Hean's words.
The elevator door slowly closed, and the last thing that came into view was Lu Hean standing there with a gloomy look in his eyes.
His heart was still beating uncontrollably, a dull, aching pain. He leaned against the cool staircase and took a few deep breaths, trying to suppress the emotions surging in his chest. No, he couldn't think about it. What he needed now was calm, and the case.
Yes, case.
Arriving at the first floor, Pei Shuyu strode out of the elevator. The smell of disinfectant and the hustle and bustle of people in the hospital lobby slightly brought his scattered thoughts back to his mind. He gathered himself and walked towards the guidance desk.
"Hello, may I ask which floor Dr. Gong Wen, the gland specialist, is on? He's on duty today, I need to talk to him about something." He took out his ID and his tone returned to his usual calm.
The nurse checked the shift schedule and smiled, "Doctor Gong is on the sixth floor. He's not in the clinic right now, though. He just left a while ago and said he had something urgent to do. He'll be back in about an hour to clock out."
"Out?" Pei Shuyu keenly grasped this point. "Leaving temporarily? Wouldn't that count as absence or leaving early?"
The nurse seemed to find his question a little strange and smiled. "Once in a while, it's nothing. Who doesn't have family emergencies? We all understand. Besides, there aren't many patients during this time, so there are other doctors who can cover for us."
“Everyone’s attendance is here and is complete.”
Thinking of what the dean had said, Pei Shuyu's brows knitted together almost imperceptibly. What if he left first, then came back to punch in after committing the crime, creating an alibi?
"How long has he been gone?" Pei Shuyu asked, with a subtle urgency in his tone.
"About... about twenty minutes?" The nurse recalled. "He said he'd be back in about an hour."
"Thank you." Pei Shuyu immediately turned around, walked quickly to the door, took out his cell phone and called Fu Zhouxing.
The call was answered almost instantly.
"Hey, what's wrong?"
"Fu Zhouxing, can you find Gong Wen's cell phone signal location?" Pei Shuyu spoke quickly, opening the car door and getting in the driver's seat. "He suddenly left the hospital twenty minutes ago and was behaving strangely. Find out where he went, and check now."
Amid the roar of the engine, Pei Shuyu's sharp eyes swept across the traffic outside the hospital gate.
He had a strong feeling that they might be very close to a critical point.
