Chapter 149 Request for Release (Part 2)
“This is complete nonsense!”
Professor Flitwick jumped up and down, waving the newspaper in his hand, his eyebrows raised in anger:
"The video game console is a great invention! Peter Pettigrew and Rita Skeeter are just making it up!"
He gestured to his favorite student, Ravenclaw Prefect Penelope Clearwater, to look at his game console.
"Look, the game 'Wizards Duel' covers at least 70% of the spells taught in school!"
“It gives students a good understanding of spells and counterspells, and is an effective way to direct their interest!”
Penelope took a closer look and found that their dean had already completely completed the game.
——And it takes a very short time, and it seems that it can beat 99% of the students.
“They don’t realize the value of gaming consoles.”
Professor Flitwick shook his head, looking like the only one sober while everyone else was drunk:
“People are born with suspicion and fear of unknown challenges. When faced with inventions that are ahead of their time, some people’s first reaction is to reject and exclude them.”
“What black magic props? These are all rumors deliberately spread to discredit Jade Jane.”
"Although I don't mean to blame, I think Albus's move to ban game consoles from school is ill-considered."
Penelope agreed with this. She had already known that Jian Yu was caught up in a controversy among parents and might face expulsion from school.
Therefore, she came to Professor Flitwick for help, hoping that he could help speed up the progress of her thesis so that she could submit it to the journal in advance to help Jian Yu.
"Sir, I totally agree with what you said. In fact, my thesis is also related to game consoles."
This really piqued Professor Flitwick's interest. He looked at Penelope with some surprise and asked:
"You are brave enough to embrace change, very good! What is your research direction?"
Penelope, who was well prepared, pulled out several thick rolls of parchment from her robe:
"It's the effect the game console has on the user's magic power."
She handed the paper to Professor Flitwick, explaining it as he read it carefully:
"After using this magic item for a month, I felt a slight increase in my magic power."
"Many of my friends had the same feeling after using it. They thought their ability to control magic power had also become stronger."
She pointed to a large section of text on the parchment and explained her point:
"I think this may be related to the fact that using a game console requires wizards to input magic power steadily for a long time."
"Seventh graders like me generally have a certain increase in magic power..."
"But this data is difficult to measure. The variables that affect it may include the duration of use, frequency, age of the user..."
As Flitwick read on, his eyes became brighter and brighter, and he began to murmur as if talking to himself:
"Yes, yes, this is very obvious among the first and second grade students..."
"The unstable magic power has become stable... Some students are progressing particularly fast this year... They are using game consoles..."
"The way to measure it... maybe by casting a certain standard spell a number of times in a row... we need an experiment... an experimental group and a control group..."
"Sir? Sir?" Penelope called out several times before Flitwick came back to his senses.
"We must start the experiment immediately!" The professor's hair was full of anxiety. "According to the current trend of public opinion, it is hard to say whether the Ministry of Magic will take action. This paper must be published before then!"
Professor Flitwick and Penelope were immersed in intensive experiments on this side, and so were Slughorn and Gemma on the other side.
Slughorn was trying his best to convince Barnabas Guffey, editor of the Daily Prophet.
He hoped that his former student would not block reports and articles that spoke out for the game console and Jian Yu.
"Well, I can understand Rita's character..." Slughorn sighed, pretending to have a headache, "but I think seeking truth from facts is also indispensable in news reports..."
Guffey felt somewhat embarrassed about his mentor's request, as he was worried that inconsistent reports would reduce the newspaper's credibility.
"That's just Rita's personal opinion. I don't think her personal opinion represents the newspaper's."
Slughorn, who was adept at dealing with people, responded in this way.
He knew what Guffey was most concerned about.
That's how much newspapers sell.
"You know, good debates are very attractive to readers, which is very helpful in increasing newspaper sales."
Slughorn had a bulging belly and a kind, concerned expression on his face:
"I received many articles from students about game consoles, and their opinions were very insightful and amazing."
"Although they prefer to publish it in a newspaper like The Quibbler, the first place I thought of was you!"
"After all, you are my most outstanding student! Of course I will help your career and make more wizards become your loyal readers!"
Gu Fei was beaming with joy, and the former teacher and student quickly reached an agreement.
Meanwhile, the student who Slughorn described as having written a brilliant, incisive essay—
Gemma Farley was writing on parchment day and night to defend Jian Yu.
This is already the fifth manuscript she has completed:
"On the role of video game consoles in practicing the Patronus Charm... It can bring joy to people, and the pleasant memories formed will help increase the success rate of the spell..."
"It is entirely reasonable to assume that it has a miraculous effect in fighting negative emotions and dark creatures..."
But what she didn't know was that her views coincided with those of the healers far away in St. Mungo's!
Ever since Sirius Black, a patient tortured by Dementors, was admitted to this hospital for magical injuries and diseases, his ward has become a popular check-in spot.
Almost all the therapists came to observe his rare case, and they even conducted a multidisciplinary joint consultation.
After discovering that he recovered very quickly and looked no different from an ordinary person—
Sirius became their walking paper.
This attracted a large number of therapists to come and learn, including some from as far away as Europe.
They were amazed by it.
The variable of video game consoles is considered by therapists to be an extremely important factor in patients' recovery.
But before they could write to Jian Yu to purchase the research, Rita Skeeter's report denied the value of the game console and described it as an item of black magic.
This made the therapists very angry.
"Whose dark magic item can cure the aftereffects of Dementors?"
"This is hindering our research and delaying the treatment of patients!"
“This is a stumbling block on the road to great medical progress!”
They decided to jointly issue a statement to refute Rita Skeeter's false report -
And emphasize the possibility that game consoles can play an important role in the treatment of Dementor sequelae.
