Chapter 244: The Conflicted Couple

Chapter 244: The Conflicted Couple

What Jian Yu didn't know while holding the invitation letter and lost in thought was -

A few days ago, Lucius Malfoy and his wife Narcissa made a hasty visit to the cellar of their old friend Snape.

——using the excuse of visiting their beloved son.

The couple's already fair complexion became even paler. Narcissa's long hair was scattered behind her, and she didn't even have time to tie it up. Lucius's tie was tilted to one side, and his right hand couldn't help but reach out to his left arm, but he just pressed it lightly. He didn't even bring his snake-head cane.

"What brings you here?" Snape gestured for the couple to sit on the sofa and poured three cups of tea. "It's really surprising."

"Long time no see, Severus." Lucius took off his hood and put it aside, sipping his tea, as if this could calm his mind. "We haven't talked for a long time since the last summer vacation."

Narcissa sat beside him. Her lower body did not move at all, but her upper body was trembling slightly.

"It's urgent, Severus."

Snape pulled open another armchair and sat down, not surprisingly. He pushed aside the pile of potion homework in front of him and glanced at the closed door of the storage room next to him:

"So...what's today's topic?"

Lucius and Narcissa exchanged glances. He spoke tentatively, his eyes falling on Snape's left arm:

"You must have felt it, Severus, the way it was getting darker and darker—"

"What does that matter?" Snape said mercilessly. "If you had followed his instructions, you wouldn't be worrying now."

The couple's faces looked like they had been punched in the face, all colorful and ugly.

"He took old Nott away." Lucius said in a low voice, "We will be cleared out one by one - it will be our turn soon. I don't believe you are not afraid!"

Snape paused and said softly, "I have not received his summons, and I have been staying at Hogwarts as he instructed."

"You can't pretend nothing happened." Lucius gently placed his left arm on the armrest of the sofa, his cold sweat soaking his smoothly combed long hair. "He won't forgive me. You know how I was exempted from the punishment of Azkaban. I didn't look for him for so many years. I damaged the diary he entrusted to me for safekeeping--"

He stared at Snape with an inquiring gaze and continued, as if cursing the fate of the two:

"You and I can't escape. We both escaped from prison. He must doubt our loyalty—"

He held his hands in the air, as if the snake-headed cane was still there:

"My wand is gone, and he didn't summon me, but I received a message asking me to put my wand at a designated place—"

Snape raised his eyebrows in interest and continued:

"So? The only person who has direct contact with him is Old Nott?"

"More than that." Narcissa said panickedly, "I suspect there are also old Goyle and old Crabbe. They were suddenly seriously injured and came to St. Mungo's, claiming that they were Apparated, but that is almost impossible for them-"

"Don't worry." Snape's eyes looked at the other closed door in the room. "I think the Dark Lord will forgive us."

The corners of his mouth twisted into a mocking arc, and he continued:

"If he didn't have that much magnanimity, there would be only a handful of Death Eaters left, and you—"

"Money is omnipotent, and Galleons are the greatest support."

But when it came to gold galleons, the couple's expressions became even uglier.

Lucius thought of the Galleons he had to invest continuously since joining the Death Eaters.

It's really heartbreaking that one's income is not enough to cover expenses.

What's more, in the current chaotic situation, the business map originally planned with Jian Yu may come to a standstill.

The entire Malfoy family is like Voldemort's fully automatic ATM. As long as he makes a request, the couple has to pay.

They couldn't help but wonder whether Voldemort could really lead them to realize the pie he had once drawn -

Give the Malfoy family power and achieve pure-blood supremacy.

In fact, before Voldemort's last fall, his increasingly crazy behavior made the couple doubt the correctness of their own decisions.

It's a pity that the damage has been done and it's impossible to undo it. The two can only go down this path until the end. After all, there is no such thing as a resignation report for Death Eaters.

"But there is nothing we can do." Narcissa closed her eyes and said in a trembling voice, "Lucius has marked... those who dared to leave before... are all dead."

"Since there is no choice." Snape seemed to want to end this meaningless conversation, "Why did you come to me?"

The couple was silent. Narcissa's lip trembled, and just as she was about to speak, the small door to the cellar room was suddenly pushed open.

—and inside stood their son Draco who was in detention!

His face was extremely pale, and he was holding a few leeches in his hands.

He didn't even notice that they had been sucked onto his hand, causing it to swell up into a large strip. He had obviously heard the entire conversation:

"No, Dad, Mom, we can't--"
