Chapter 26 "You're not suited for racing." "No..."
After lunch.
The yard was being organized and moved in an orderly manner. Most of the items were miscellaneous books that Pei Yanli had been reading recently, and also various contracts and documents.
Some were still pending processing, so Chen Zhao had to seal them one by one into file bags, put them in a safe, lock them, and transport them to Four Seasons Cloud Top.
After getting everything ready to leave, Luo Yunqing pushed Pei Yanli to the garage. Just as they were about to get into the car, she glanced at the driver's seat and exclaimed, "Uncle Zhang!"
The car window rolled down, and Zhang, the nearly seventy-year-old steward, nodded slightly to him. "The master was worried about you and the second master, so he sent me to see you off."
Are you really driving them there?
“Don’t underestimate Uncle Zhang.” Chen Zhao helped his boss into the car, then turned to see him standing at the car door, looking at the driver’s seat with a worried expression. He couldn’t help but say, “He was a racing legend when he was young.”
Racing legend!
"That happened so many years ago." Butler Zhang shook his head and smiled, not refuting it, and then reassured Luo Yunqing, "Don't worry, I guarantee it will be delivered to you safely."
"Since it's you, I have complete peace of mind." Luo Yunqing got into the car with a smile, then turned to Pei Yanli curiously and asked, "Uncle Zhang is so amazing."
“I heard from Dad that Uncle Zhang’s record from back then is still unbroken.” As soon as he came closer, Pei Yanli put down the book in her hand. “He is indeed a legendary figure in the racing world.”
Luo Yunqing found it strange. How could someone so capable become a butler in the Pei family?
"There was an accident later, and my aunt was about to give birth at that time, so I simply retired," Pei Yanli explained in a low voice, noticing his confusion.
It's actually better to retire at your peak.
If they hadn't retreated then, it would have been difficult to surpass them later on.
"But I heard that Zhang Bosun's daughter is also involved in racing, and apparently she even leads a team, is that right?"
Chen Zhao got into the passenger seat, and before he could finish speaking, Butler Zhang gave him a sidelong glance. "Why are you so concerned about my granddaughter? Do you like her? Are you going to pursue her?"
Chen Zhao: "I didn't..."
"You can't catch up." Butler Zhang said bluntly, a smug smile on his face. "That girl is about to break my record."
It's almost there, but it's not broken yet.
Chen Zhao muttered a few words to himself, then met his glance and quickly laughed it off, "Uncle Zhang, how about we start driving?"
If we keep talking, it will get dark soon.
…………
Several cars slowly drove out of the Pei family's old residence.
Halfway there, Steward Zhang remembered to tell them the outcome of what had happened that morning: "The eldest young master disrespected the young master, so the head of the family punished him by making him copy the Tao Te Ching one hundred times in the ancestral hall. Young master, don't get angry or upset over such a trivial matter. It's not worth ruining your health."
"I'm not angry anymore." Luo Yunqing leaned over and hugged the arm of the person next to her, trying to suppress the corners of her mouth. "I haven't been angry for a long time."
"It's good that you're not angry." Butler Zhang, who was very observant, then asked, "Four Seasons Cloud Top doesn't have many servants. Are you two going to hire new ones, or have them transferred from the old mansion?"
Who can guarantee that a second Xu Qi won't emerge from among the people who come from the old house?
Pei Yanli brushed the black hair off her shoulder and lowered her head to discuss with him, "Let's find someone else, okay?"
“Okay.” Luo Yunqing had no objection. “But normally, since it’s just the two of us, we don’t need to hire too many.”
"good."
Pei Yanli obeyed him.
The conversation took place even though the soundproofing panels inside the car weren't raised. Butler Zhang naturally heard everything and immediately turned to instruct Chen Zhao on which people to recruit.
The journey wasn't too dull; after driving for more than half an hour, we arrived smoothly at Four Seasons Cloud Top.
Luo Yunqing had been here before. It has three floors above ground and two floors below ground. There isn't much furniture, and they will need to add more later.
There was a semi-enclosed yard outside. As soon as Luo Yunqing got out of the car, he saw two large trees that weren't there when he last came. The lawn around the trees had obviously been renovated. What surprised him even more was that a swing chair was hanging between the two trees, with green vines and red roses winding around and embedded in the white rope.
Luo Yunqing took two steps forward and turned back to look at the person in surprise.
Pei Yanli: "Shall we give it a try?"
He nodded repeatedly, sat down and grabbed the rope. All the thorns on the vines were scraped off, so they weren't prickly at all.
Pei Yanli maneuvered her wheelchair over, pursing her lips: "Do you like it?"
"I love it!" Luo Yunqing took a few steps back, then suddenly swung away, her voice carrying on the wind, "I love it so much!!"
That evening, he showed off his skills.
I made Pei Yanli's favorite tomato beef brisket, steamed a bowl of pumpkin soup, and stewed a winter melon and pork rib soup.
These are all home-style dishes. People who usually only eat one bowl of rice had an extra half bowl today.
"Isn't it delicious?" Luo Yunqing scooped up a spoonful of pumpkin soup, rested her chin on her hand, and looked at him with a smile.
Pei Yanli finished the last sip of soup, wiped her mouth, and nodded, "Delicious, Xiao Luo..."
"Um?"
"My wife is a really good cook."
“That’s right.” Luo Yunqing raised her chin slightly, looking extremely proud.
He's been making his favorite tomato and beef brisket stew for almost ten years.
After the meal, Luo Yunqing pushed him around to digest, exploring every floor up and down the building, occasionally sketching on his tablet and choosing suitable furniture.
Around 9:30, I was taken to take a shower again.
"You're going to school the day after tomorrow." After drying his hair, Pei Yanli took the still-warm hairdryer and dried his hair again. "Xiao Luo, are you really going to come back every day from now on?"
Luo Yunqing, with her back to the person, comfortably squinted her eyes and asked, "Don't you want me to come back?"
"I would like to, but it would be too tiring for you."
Pei Yanli had seen his class schedule. Before the final exams, he was basically in a full schedule, and he also had club activities and electives in the evenings. With all that, how long could he get any sleep?
After drying him halfway, Luo Yunqing turned her head and kissed his chin. "Thinking of you makes me not tired. Besides, my nephew is in the dorm, and I don't want to see him."
Luo Yunqing didn't even want to mention his name. She turned around, hugged him, and snuggled close to his chest. "Husband, you feel sorry for me?"
"Um."
Luo Yunqing raised her head and touched her lips.
The hairdryer was quickly turned off, and a shadow fell in front of him.
Luo Yunqing took the initiative to hook her arm around his neck and went to meet him.
…………
They probably couldn't stay together like this all the time, so the next day, Luo Yunqing took every opportunity to kiss her.
Pei Yanli never refused him, so on the first day of class after the holiday, Luo Yunqing's lips were unsurprisingly swollen.
As he stepped into the drama club's activity room at dusk, everyone who passed by gave him a strange look, then feigned sudden realization, raised the corners of their mouths knowingly, and asked, "How was your honeymoon?"
Even bolder ones went straight to speaking up.
"How is Second Master Pei?"
"Does it hurt? Hmm?"
It hurts, my mouth hurts.
Other than that... in the hot spring pool, even though Luo Yunqing was being so flirtatious, Pei Yanli only rubbed against her a few times.
If he hadn't later touched that hard, swollen thing, he would have doubted whether it was his own problem.
"What are you all saying? Are you trying to devour Xiao Luo?" Xia Lin strode over, parting the crowd that was almost engulfing him. Turning around, she exclaimed, "Hey! Your mouth... it's really fierce."
"well enough."
Luo Yunqing only felt a tingling sensation, but couldn't feel anything else.
"Is this alright?" Xia Lin's cheeks twitched as she looked at his mouth, which was starting to resemble a sausage. The topic was quickly brought to an end when You Jianan and Cheng Xu came in.
She turned and scanned the entire activity room. "Where's Pei Hengzhi? He's not here again?"
"Probably..." Luo Yunqing put an ice pack on her mouth and guessed, "She's copying the Tao Te Ching."
Charlene didn't react for a moment, and stopped thinking about it: "Never mind if you don't want to come. I have something to tell you."
She gathered everyone together, cleared her throat, and said, "I'm a senior now. I'll be busy with my thesis and finding an internship, so I probably won't be able to take care of the club's affairs anymore. It was about time for me to retire anyway."
Previously, the plan was for the vice president to take over, but now... just last month, Xia Lin doesn't even bother to mention Pei Hengzhi.
She was late for club recruitment, she finally found a promising student who publicly humiliated her, she performed terribly at the welcome party, and she handled all sorts of other miscellaneous tasks poorly.
The drama club is a century-old club at Peking University, established at the very beginning of the university's founding. Xia Lin had been thinking it over carefully during the summer vacation. Regardless of whether he was a rich young master or not, she couldn't let him treat it so badly and disrespectfully.
“I plan to…” His gaze swept over everyone, finally landing on You Jianan’s back, and he pointed over there: “Cheng Xu, you will be the new president of the drama club.”
Cheng Xu, who was lost in thought: "Me?"
"It's you." Xia Lin gave him almost no chance to react, and immediately appointed Luo Yunqing and a sophomore girl as vice presidents.
"But wouldn't that mean there would be three vice presidents?" Yang Ying pushed up her black-rimmed glasses, puzzled.
“Who said there are three?” Xia Lin took a breath and said in a deep voice, “Effective immediately, Pei Hengzhi is removed from his position as vice president and demoted to a member. If he’s not satisfied, tell him to come find me.”
At this moment, Cheng Xu finally realized, "I can't do it. You should find someone else for this position, club president."
"Then tell me, who should we look for?"
Cheng Xu casually pointed at You Jianan, who waved his hand repeatedly.
Charlene also said, "Xiao Nan is too soft-hearted and can't handle the situation."
Cheng Xu then pointed at Yang Ying.
Charlene frowned as she looked over: "You expect her to write scripts and manage clubs at the same time? Does she have three heads and six arms?"
Yang Ying has an extraordinary imagination, but essentially, like You Jianan, she can't command the scene.
Cheng Xu couldn't point to each one individually; Xia Lin could find a reason for him with each one, until Luo Yunqing.
This should be fine now, right?
Charlene frowned again, grabbed his hair and pulled it down. "He's only a freshman! A freshman! You're letting a freshman be the club president?"
Luo Yunqing is indeed excellent in all aspects, but his only fatal flaw is his young age. Making him the vice president would be considered overstepping his bounds, let alone the president.
and--
"I just got married, I don't have that much time." Luo Yunqing put down the ice pack, her lips red and swollen, and shook her head seriously.
Cheng Xu was so angry that he grabbed a handful of his hair and squatted down on the spot.
"Just accept your fate. Besides, there's nothing wrong with being the president; it can even give you extra credits." Xia Lin patted his shoulder with a smile and said to everyone, "Come on, let's congratulate Senior Cheng Xu on being elected as the new president of the drama club!"
She led the way, and a round of applause immediately filled the activity room.
Then they started proposing a celebration.
"How about Saturday?"
"No one has classes on Saturdays."
Saturday!
Luo Yunqing suddenly remembered that he had arranged to meet Teng Zaiye on Saturday. "Um, I..."
I just put the ice pack down.
"Then it's settled, Saturday noon." Charlene waved her hand, noticing he raised his. "What's up, Xiao Luo?"
Luo Yunqing: "It's nothing."
Noon is still feasible.
This will save me from having to find other reasons to explain to Pei Yanli.
…………
Saturday arrived in the blink of an eye.
Hearing that it was a club dinner, Pei Yanli had no suspicions whatsoever.
Luo Yunqing went to a private restaurant for a gathering as usual, and left early, waiting until everyone had almost finished eating.
I took a taxi to a car repair shop owned by the Speed Club.
Teng Zaiye had already arrived and was half-squatting in front of a Ford that was being repaired, talking to the mechanic under the car.
Standing next to him was a man in his twenties with a buzz cut. His white vest was stained yellow and black with engine oil, and some of it had even gotten on his face.
Luo Yunqing looked him over and stepped forward, saying, "Brother Teng."
"Hmm?" Teng Zaiye turned around suspiciously, and was taken aback when he saw him. "Oh! You're here."
He waved his hand and said, "Come, come, let me introduce you. This is Yu Huai'an, the club owner."
Teng Zaiye pointed at the man with the buzz cut.
As Luo Yunqing had predicted, he nodded and called out, "Brother Yu."
Teng Zaiye then pointed at him and said to Yu Huai'an, "This is that rich but foolish God of Wealth, Luo Yunqing."
Luo Yunqing: "..."
Does the God of Wealth have to be preceded by a modifier?
"Hahaha." Yu Huai'an laughed heartily twice and extended his hand, "Boss Luo."
He reached out and realized his phone was covered in oil. "Oh dear, I'm so sorry, Mr. Luo, let me wipe it off."
"It's alright." Before he could take it back, Luo Yunqing grasped it. "I'm sure Brother Teng has already told you about my request."
"Want to race?"
Before Yu Huai'an could speak, a hoarse sound came from under the Ford, and a repair bed slid out from under the car with exceptional smoothness.
Luo Yunqing was slightly taken aback.
To my utter surprise, the person repairing the car was a woman!
"What kind of look is that?" The woman took off her hat, revealing a head of jet-black, wavy hair, and pinched his chin with her oil-stained hands. "Looking down on me?"
"No." Luo Yunqing quickly went from shock to calm. "It was just a bit of a surprise."
"Ha!" The woman withdrew her hand, put down the pliers, and patted her pockets up and down.
Yu Huai'an knew what she was up to. He took out half a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, turned it upside down in his palm, lit it twice, pulled one out, and handed it to her.
Teng Zaiye then introduced, "This is Zhang Shuyan, the manager of the Extreme Speed Club. Don't underestimate her; she's the undefeated queen of this circle."
"More powerful than you?"
Teng Zaiye: "..."
Seeing his evasive gaze, touching his nose, and scratching his face, Luo Yunqing knew she had guessed correctly.
He strode up to Zhang Shuyan and answered her question, "I want to race."
The lighter snapped! It quickly licked the red smoke trail.
Zhang Shuyan took a deep breath, exhaled smoke towards the person, and raised his long eyebrows slightly: "Why do you want to race?"
“I already told you the reasons,” Teng Zaiye replied, only to be met with a fierce glare from the other party.
He shut his mouth after just one glance.
Zhang Shuyan turned her head to look at the young man in front of her again. He was seventeen or eighteen years old, and quite good-looking, but too thin.
"You're not suited for racing."
His eyes were too calm, devoid of desire.
She took two more puffs of her cigarette and stubbed it out in the ashtray. She stood up and picked up her work gloves: "Want to invest? We welcome you. Want to race? Forget it, you're not cut out for it."
"How will you know if you don't try?"
"Ha!" Zhang Shuyan laughed, looking up at the sky. "You mean 'try'? Do you even know how many kilometers a race is, how many S-curves it has to go through, or what your heart rate has to be? Real racing isn't just for fun. Speed and passion often come with the risk of death or serious injury. Even so, you still want to 'play'?"
Luo Yunqing nodded without hesitation, "I have a reason why I absolutely must participate, but... I can't say it yet."
"I can't say." Zhang Shuyan narrowed his eyes, threw off his gloves, put his hands in his pockets and approached. "Since you want to play so much... fine, I'll have a simple match with you first. If you can beat me, you can play whatever you want."
