Chapter 10 Our Promise 2: The City Flooded
Wu Wangwang remembered the characteristics of each player. Of the four male players, two had different opinions and chose different camps when voting. The remaining two male players were of very ordinary height, very ordinary appearance, and very ordinary taciturnity.
Well, it seems that all nine players in this group are living a similar life, except for their professions.
Hearing the sound, the male player looked up at Wu Wangwang but did not react. After glancing at him, he lowered his head to continue repairing the machine, just like any silent and reserved master craftsman. He did not greet him or offer any of the greetings typical of extroverted people.
Each player is probably trying to act according to their assigned role, and except for the agreed-upon days, they all pretend not to know each other.
Wu Wangwang didn't know what the other players looked like in the dungeon, but she knew what the original player looked like.
The original owner of this body was very timid. Her upbringing destined her to be a cowardly person. The boldest thing she ever did in her life was probably making a very presumptuous wish to the Ghost Mother.
Based on the original owner's personality, she would probably be more afraid of this kind of dungeon than other players. So when she found that other players were pretending not to know her, she would quickly realize that she should be a player who follows the rules.
So Wu Wangwang returned to her seat, started packing her things, and quietly left the office after she finished. She was off work.
Back home, Wu Wangwang put down her phone and went out onto the balcony. For some reason, she felt that if she were a human, coming home to a cramped rental room and clothes left out on the balcony would make even the beautiful sunset seem suffocating.
That night, Wu Wangwang turned off the lights and continued to listen to the sound of water in the bathroom, which grew louder.
Thinking about it carefully, the sound of water actually gets louder every day. At first, it was just water droplets dripping down little by little. Later, the frequency of the dripping gradually increased. Today, the sound of the water droplets is very continuous, as if it is about to become a faucet turned on at its lowest setting.
The next morning, Wu Wangwang woke up and realized that she had forgotten to ask for leave from the company. After all, she was not a professional employee and forgot that if she were to break free from the cycle of life, she would need to apply to her supervisor and get their approval before she could leave.
However, the information in the copy was quite important, so Wu Wangwang directly asked the minister for leave, saying that she had been hit by a car while going downstairs and needed to go to the hospital.
The minister didn't reply promptly, probably because he hadn't gotten up yet, so Wu Wangwang packed her things and prepared to go to the square.
It takes some time to get from Fu Mei's home to the square, so when Wu Wangwang received the minister's reply, she was still on the bus.
The minister's reply was inhumane. He directly stated that taking leave would result in a deduction from full attendance, and that hospital reports or other proof were unnecessary. In short, taking leave meant not having full attendance, and anyone willing to forgo full attendance could take leave.
After replying "Received," Wu Wangwang realized a few minutes later that the reason why people in this company were willing to work without rest was because the full attendance bonus was very high. Fu Mei's actual monthly salary, after deducting social insurance and housing fund contributions, was only three thousand yuan, but the full attendance bonus was two thousand yuan.
According to company regulations, full attendance bonuses are awarded only if all work hours are completed. However, one day's absence can be made up by working a week's worth of overtime. If you don't make up for the week's overtime, you won't get full attendance bonuses. If you miss two days, your full attendance bonus will be deducted directly, and there is no chance to make up for it.
Fu Mei hasn't taken any leave this month, but Wu Wangwang only has one chance to take leave. After that, she has to work overtime for another week. Not only does she not get a vacation after working overtime, but she also has to use it to make up for her full attendance.
Once the 2,000 yuan attendance bonus is gone, Wu Wangwang will only receive 3,000 yuan next month. After paying rent, she will only have 500 yuan left, which will probably only cover her commuting expenses.
The problem is that players not only have to gather in the square on the 19th, but also on the 29th. There's no way to avoid it, so they have to ask for leave. That means Wu Wangwang's perfect attendance is destined to be impossible. She won't starve, but others will think she's a monster.
Aren't people who don't eat just monsters?
Wu Wangwang was conflicted about whether or not to go on the 29th. She was so conflicted on the way there that when she arrived at the square at 8:10, she found that only two girls had come.
The two female players were the same two who spoke up on number nine. One was shy, and the other was composed. It was impossible to tell whether they knew each other before, but it was clear that only the two of them and Wu Wangwang had taken today's gathering to heart.
Running up to them, Wu Wangwang hurriedly asked, "I'm sorry I'm late, where is the others?"
They exchanged a glance and shook their heads simultaneously. Then the shy female player said, "We actually arrived at 7:30, but we waited for a long time and no one else came. You are the first one to arrive besides us."
"You? You live together, and you arrived at the same time?" Wu Wangwang noticed the other party's choice of words.
The shy female player nodded: "Yes, we live together. I didn't know at first, but I found out when we took the same bus to the same place."
This news somewhat shattered Wu Wangwang's guess. She thought that this was a copy where everyone shared the same secret. According to the words on the note, the identities the players played should all abide by the agreement. So how could ordinary people living together be invisible?
Fu Mei couldn't find even one person she was even slightly familiar with. She usually tried to keep her conversations within a range that didn't reveal her habits, so how could there be two people... living together?
Wu Wangwang glanced at the two female players with a strange look, but couldn't see anything wrong. She thought carefully and remembered that when they raised their hands to decide, the shy female player voted to share information, while the composed female player voted not to share.
They must have received different initial information, so if they lived together, would they really be able to sleep?
“It’s good to live together, we can look out for each other,” Wu Wangwang said politely, suppressing her doubts. “There are still twenty minutes until 8:30, let’s keep waiting, maybe they live far away.”
Considering they had to wait for someone, they didn't share any information beforehand. Instead, they found a shady yet conspicuous spot to sit, ensuring that any new players would see them as soon as they got off the bus.
Twenty minutes passed quickly; they played on their phones for a while, but no one came even after they waited until nine o'clock.
Wu Wangwang turned off her phone, stood up, and said, "They're not coming. What are you planning to do?"
After a moment of silence, the two female players also stood up. The composed female player said, "Actually, I don't want to share information, but now it seems that sharing information is still necessary."
"Why? Did you suddenly have a change of heart?" the shy female player asked, puzzled.
"No, it just occurred to me that if we don't share information, when we can't gather together, we won't even know if the other players are alive or dead. We won't even be able to deduce whether they died because they triggered the death rule."
