Chapter 5

Chapter 5

"Not for sale." Gu Ci refused immediately upon hearing this tone as he came downstairs. He quickly walked up to the man and pulled Gu Nian behind him.

"Go somewhere else, we don't sell any of our cats. Goodbye." With that, he gestured for him to leave.

The man didn't expect Gu Ci to be so disrespectful. He snorted and left, saying, "Who cares?"

Gu Ci didn't know whose people he was working for, but there were only a few people with bad tempers in the styling industry, so it wasn't hard to guess.

"I told you not to let this kind of person in, and you still started talking to him? Do you want Mom and Dad to lock you up for another summer vacation?!" Gu Ci had a headache. His younger sister was good in every other way, except that she was prone to taking risks and was always a worry. Or were all reporters like this?

Gu Nian was displeased. How could it be her problem when the other party hadn't even hit her? "Can't you be reasonable? He just asked if I could sell myself. I'm not a child. I can take care of myself. Don't be so possessive!"

After saying that, he made a face and ran to the bathroom to continue his great task of washing his furry friend.

Gu Ci was helpless; he couldn't control it, so he could only keep an eye on things himself.

public security bureau.

Ning Wensong took a big bite of a jianbing guozi (Chinese crepe) that was almost bigger than her face, right in front of the shocked police officers.

"It's so delicious, Chen Che, are you sure you don't want it? You just added an egg." Ning Wensong said indistinctly, while holding up the jianbing guozi to Chen Che's mouth.

Chen Che noticed the policeman's gaze and pushed the food back, "Eat up, we'll watch the surveillance footage together after you finish." Logically speaking, a kitten shouldn't eat this much, but Ning Wensong's strength is increasing, and maybe he won't need to touch his nose to transform into human form later.

Yes, that's great.

Cheng Jing walked in from outside, holding a USB drive. "Let me introduce myself. I'm Cheng Jing, a new intern police officer here. I found the surveillance footage you're looking for. These days, it's rare to find someone like you who finds an injured stray cat and then comes to the police station looking for the cat abuser."

Thinking of the photos Ning Wensong showed her, Cheng Jing felt a surge of anger. She wanted to see for herself who was so wicked.

Ning Wensong quickly finished the jianbing guozi in her hand and hurriedly pulled Shen Che to the computer.

"Sister, play it quickly, let's watch it together!" The word "sister" made Cheng Jing's mood improve significantly. It's so nice to have more lovely people in life.

She opened the surveillance footage of them finding the cat.

Because no one could be sure whether the tabby cat was abandoned in the bushes or wandered there on its own, it took a long time just to watch the videos, starting from that day and working backwards.

Perhaps it was fate that was helping them. In the early hours of the previous day, surveillance footage captured an important clue: a black car had dumped the tabby cat in the park not far from the bushes, but the license plate number was not recorded.

Ning Wensong thought about the tabby cat's severe injuries. A cat, hiding from all the humans, had managed to move into the bushes. If she hadn't heard that sound, would it have just stayed there waiting to die?

She dared not think too deeply about it. Ning Wensong, who was extremely empathetic, sometimes disliked it, as if she had the same experience as the tabby cat, which made her feel suffocated.

"This..." Ning Wensong choked up as she spoke, and after a moment she continued, "If we can find this person, what charges can we use to arrest him?"

“Well, there’s no animal protection law yet.” Cheng Jing thought for a moment and came up with a good idea. “If you can prove that the cat is yours, then you can detain them for a period of time on charges of intentional damage to property.”

Ning Wensong was at a loss. They couldn't even be sure when the cat had been caught, nor could they prove it was their cat. She looked at Chen Che with pleading eyes.

After a moment of deep thought, he had a general idea in mind. "Officer Cheng, can we go back and make some preparations? Please continue to keep an eye on this car. It would be best if we could find the license plate number. This level of abuse is definitely not the first time."

"Of course, let's not drag it out too long," Cheng Jing assured them, hoping they could find "proof."

After completing the remaining formalities, Shen Che took Ning Wensong and left the police station, continuing towards the cat cafe.

"I just added Officer Cheng as a friend. She'll help us track the cat's movements. If we can find it, we can go to places it frequents and pretend to be its owner looking for it. After a while, they'll become our witnesses. But if the cat isn't from this city, then maybe..."

The unspoken words were filled with helplessness; if there were relevant laws, they could be arrested directly.

Ning Wensong noticed his low spirits and stepped forward to take Chen Che's hand. "We've done a great job. It's good that we found it, but it's okay if we don't. Believe in karma. The tabby cat has met us. We won't let it be bullied anymore. Don't worry, okay?"

The girl's gentle tone made Chen Che's heart skip a beat for a moment.

Her powerful words reminded Chen Che of what she had said a few days ago: there would definitely be relevant laws in the future, it was just a matter of time.

"Okay, I'm fine now. Cheer up too. On your way home, buy some canned food and cat treats so it can have extra meals once it's recovered." Shen Che's mood had improved, and he began to make the arrangements.

Ning Wensong's eyes lit up when she heard about canned food. She had been eating human food since she became a cat, and she wondered if her cat form could eat canned food. She was so curious. "Can I apply for a can of food? No, I have money! I also want to add a cat treat, hehe."

The two chatted and laughed as they arrived at the cat cafe.

“Ah! Chen Che!” Ning Wensong remembered something.

"What's wrong?" Shen Che was a little confused.

"It seems we forgot to bring Blue Cat and Siamese..." Ning Wensong belatedly realized that Shen Che had also forgotten.

"It's alright, they can rest for a few more days. Look up." Chen Che had figured out her temper a bit; she would forget once and then nothing would happen.

"Wishing Cat Cafe, what a great name!" Ning Wensong looked up at the countless paw prints on the signboard and could already feel the care put into this cat cafe.

Chen Che looked at the words "Wishing" and said, "Yes, the reason why this cat cafe was born is also very magical. I'll tell you about it when I have the chance. It's too long to explain in a short time."

Ning Wensong let go of her hand first and skipped into the hall. The novel cat tree and various toys inside made her itchy to run around like a kitten.

Shen Che looked at his empty palm, smiled and shook his head, then slowly followed him inside.

"Gu Ci, are you there?" He stared at the white hem of his clothes peeking out from the gap in the stairs, and chuckled inwardly. How many times has he tried to scare me?

Ning Wensong wandered around the lobby for a while, and when she saw the stairs, she wanted to go up and see the facilities upstairs, wondering if they were as fun as downstairs.

As soon as she stepped onto the first step, she was startled by the girl who suddenly appeared, and her whole body felt as if it had been swept away by the turbulent current.

Before she could even utter a sound, her vision suddenly went black. Ning Wensong froze for a moment before starting to struggle, wondering why she couldn't get out.

No, I've turned into a cat in front of others!! Ning Wensong was a little scared, and the whole cat froze under her clothes.

Gu Nian was also startled by the sudden disappearance of a living person. His face turned pale and he fell backward, only to be caught by Gu Ci, who had just come downstairs.

Wasn't it said that only Shen Che was special in this world? What's going on here? Gu Nian's heart couldn't take it. Shen Che had never changed in front of her before.

"Chen Che, how come you've changed again... wait, who is this??" He was about to warn Chen Che not to change size so easily when he was confused by the pile of clothes on the ground and Chen Che not far away.

"This is my kitten, a black and white German cat, just like me. What's the big deal?" Shen Che knew that Gu Ci and the others wouldn't be scared, so he hadn't rushed to see why Ning Wensong had suddenly turned into a cat.

He slowly stepped forward, removed the clothes covering Ning Wensong's head, and picked her up, placing her on his shoulder.

Ning Wensong was still in a daze. Feeling the changes in his body, he leaned close to Shen Che's ear and whispered, "Shen Che, my body feels strange. It's like I'm being restrained. It's a completely different feeling from before."

"What? Relax, let me see." This was the first time Shen Che had encountered this situation. He explained it to Gu Ci and told them to process it on their own. Then he went directly into a secluded room on the second floor.

Shen Che tried touching noses with Ning Wensong, but there was no reaction. He was anxious and kept flipping through his old memory book.

"Am I no longer able to become human?" Ning Wensong was a little panicked. This thought made her start to tremble. She didn't want to.

The book of memories was messy and numerous, many of which had been sealed away by the river of time. He spared some attention to constantly reassure Ning Wensong, "It's okay, it's okay, A-Song. Your situation is normal. I'm trying to find a solution. It's probably related to your increased appetite recently."

"It's okay, I'm holding you..."

Ning Wensong's initial anxiety was soothed by Shen Che's comforting words. Shen Che was all-powerful and would surely find a way.

An hour slowly passed.

Chen Che finally found the current situation from his memory. It was the transition from childhood to adulthood, which lasted for three days. He needed to keep up with the nutrition and also needed to transfer some power to maintain the initial state of the adult body.

"Ah Song, I understand. If you continue like this for three days, you'll be able to control your transformation from human to cat on your own." Shen Che's words made Ning Wensong meow excitedly.

"Meow! Meow meow meow!" Ning Wensong meowed before remembering to speak, "Great, hehe!"

"Let's go out. It's not good to leave them out here." Ning Wensong thought of Gu Ci and the others and urged Shen Che to go out.

Chen Che thought about Gu Nian and wondered if an hour would be enough for her to process the fact that more than one person could turn into a cat.

They went down to the first floor together, but to their surprise, Gu Nian stared at them with shining eyes, or more accurately, at Ning Wensong.

"Her eyes are terrifying, like she's going to eat me alive." Ning Wensong shrank back behind Chen Che's neck.

Gu Nian stood up abruptly, smiling as she stared at Ning Wensong. "Hello! I'm Gu Nian, Gu Ci's younger sister. I'm a student journalist, and I'm currently working part-time at a cat cafe during my summer vacation, hehe."

Ning Wensong paused for a moment, then reached out a paw to touch Gu Nian's face. "Hello, I'm Ning Wensong. I currently live at Shen Che's house, and I'm a pet stylist."

"Chen Che, I want to go down and play for a while." Ning Wensong urged, but as soon as she landed, she suddenly remembered that she hadn't said that only Chen Che could understand her.

She thought she should just ask directly, "Can you all understand what I'm saying?"

Gu Nian was stunned for a moment, then his eyes lit up with laughter. "Little Songsong, you don't know yet, do you? Shen Che is a very good friend of ours. People who have a bond with each other can gain a portion of their power. Shen Che gave us the ability to talk to cats. If you want to know about Shen Che, just ask me, hahaha."

“Okay! I’ll add you when I become human.” Ning Wensong was very happy. She felt completely integrated, her soul grounded, instead of floating in mid-air like it had a few days ago.

"By the way, Brother Gu Ci, Shen Che and I came here to borrow a Bengal cat. I want to style it for free, but we need it to record a video together." Ning Wensong remembered today's main quest as soon as her soul entered her body.

Shen Che thought to himself, why hadn't he ever called him "brother" before...?

Gu Ci's expression went blank upon hearing this. What's going on now? Has his own cat become a celebrity? Everyone's coming to him for it.

"Sure, you can. Can you tell me why? Other people have asked me for this cat today. Is it a new trend online?" Gu Ci's curious question made Ning Wensong pause for a moment.

"It must be a coincidence, right?" she asked uncertainly.
