spying
"It's spacious enough, much bigger than the rooms on riverboats," Shen Yingchang exclaimed as soon as he entered the room.
He casually put his suitcase down and wandered around the room.
From the brass decorations in the entryway to the small ornaments on the coffee table in the living room, he examined each item carefully, praising them repeatedly: "The decoration is also very nice, they really have money."
This morning, Shen Yingchang specifically reminded Tao Chu that as long as the other party wasn't out of their mind, there would definitely be hidden cameras and listening devices waiting for them in the rooms of the "Sea Chaser".
So when Tao Chu saw him rummaging around in the living room and bedroom, she opened her suitcase and pretended to put her skincare products and towels in the bathroom to search for them.
The bathroom was sparsely furnished, making it difficult to hide a camera, but Tao Chu wasn't sure if there was any eavesdropping.
She shouted at the top of her lungs, "Wash your hands before you come in, make it a habit!"
Upon hearing this, Shen Yingchang immediately understood.
"You're so long-winded," he complained as he walked towards the restroom. "I haven't even asked you about Wen Yunsheng yet, and you're already putting on airs!"
As soon as he entered the restroom, he saw Tao Chu pointing to his ear.
Tao Chu had already turned on the sink faucet, and Shen Yingchang stepped forward and turned on the shower as well: "I wonder how quickly the hot water comes out on this ship."
Tao Chu tiptoed closer to his ear and said, "There's nowhere to put a pinhole camera, so eavesdropping is uncertain."
Shen Yingchang nodded and whispered to her, "There are two suspected pinhole cameras in the living room, one in the corner of the cabinet by the door and one next to the TV. The one in the bedroom is on the curtain box. We haven't been able to find any eavesdropping devices yet."
"Let's talk on the balcony," Tao Chu said quickly.
Shen Yingchang smiled appreciatively, turned off the water, and resumed his performance.
"I'm going to have a smoke." He walked towards the balcony first.
"You promised me you'd quit smoking, you're not allowed to smoke!" Tao Chu followed after him.
The two opened the balcony door and looked around.
Aside from the floor-to-ceiling windows, there are two outdoor lounge chairs; there's no space to put a hidden camera.
There's a lot of wind and noise outside, so eavesdropping won't work; it's a relatively safe place.
At most, the camera next to the indoor TV would capture a little image, so they leaned on the railing and started discussing.
“Since there’s an immigration hall next to it, it means that normal passengers have to go through procedures before boarding the ship, and only certain special people can skip the steps when boarding.” Shen Yingchang leaned down and looked at the top of the building below.
"The 'Sea Chaser' breaks this limitation directly—how much profit is needed to justify taking this risk?"
“You should have the chance to see it.” Shen Yingchang turned his head to look at her.
"But the prerequisite is that you get the message out alive." Tao Chu met his gaze.
“The information isn’t enough; we need concrete evidence. But our phones have been confiscated, and our movements are restricted. It’s tough,” Shen Yingchang sighed.
For Tao Chu, this sea voyage could at least provide her with one more clue—
Last night she instructed Cen Le to start contacting "HP" with her old phone this morning, as there was a high probability the other party would not answer.
If the "HP" prompt tone changes before or after the "Sea Chaser" sets sail, such as suddenly starting to indicate that it is out of service area, then the other party is very likely on the ship.
Although Tao Chu no longer doubted Shen Yingchang's identity as a police officer, the fact that he suddenly appeared the day after "HP" contacted him inevitably made Tao Chu make connections.
But the old phone was my last resort, and I couldn't easily use it to test him. I could only use this method to verify it indirectly.
Shen Yingchang looked at Tao Chu, who was deep in thought, and noticed that the edge of her wig was not properly secured.
He whispered, "Don't move," and then raised his hand to help her tidy up.
Tao Chu saw him suddenly get closer and couldn't help but want to back away.
"I'll fix your hair, don't run away," Shen Yingchang muttered.
Tao Chu said "Oh," thinking that perhaps it was because he had gotten up too early today and had things on his mind that he hadn't paid much attention to these details.
Fortunately, it was Shen Yingchang who discovered it; what if it had been Wen Yunsheng who saw it...
"Cough cough."
A deliberate cough suddenly came from the side, but Tao Chu's hair was still in Shen Yingchang's hand, so she didn't dare to turn around or move. She looked up at Shen Yingchang in confusion: "What's wrong?"
Shen Yingchang caught a glimpse of Wen Yunsheng standing on the adjacent balcony, staring at him with a gloomy face.
He laughed and said, "It's okay, baby. The guy next door is probably a heavy smoker. He came out for a smoke to clear his throat."
Tao Chu frowned at his disgusting nickname and sarcastic tone: "What nonsense are you spouting? Is your hair done yet?"
Shen Yingchang calmly and carefully tidied up: "Don't rush, it'll be done soon, come closer."
Unable to bear it any longer, Wen Yunsheng called out, "Chu Chu—"
Tao Chu was startled, not expecting him to be beside her. She quickly winked at Shen Yingchang, whose gaze had shifted from anxious to angry, and he knew she was about to hit her. He quickly let go.
"It's all sorted out, baby." He smiled sweetly.
Tao Chu took a deep breath, turned around, and sure enough, it was Wen Yunsheng.
He braced his hands on the side railing, less than two meters away from them.
Tao Chu couldn't help but curse inwardly at how stingy the balcony cabins on this cruise ship were, offering absolutely no privacy.
Anyone with a bit of courage could find a way to climb across that distance.
Wen Yunsheng felt uneasy watching the two of them sticking together.
He moved next door to her to protect her, not to watch them being all lovey-dovey.
"Chuchu, can you come here for a second?"
Tao Chu hesitated and turned to look at Shen Yingchang, his face saying, "Brother, I want to go, please cooperate."
Shen Yingchang shook his head with a drooping face. Tao Chu was unsure whether he was taking the role seriously or advising her not to act rashly.
Wen Yunsheng raised his voice and said, "We'll be setting sail in about ten minutes. I'm going to see my dad—before I go, I have something I want to tell you."
Having said that, Shen Yingchang could only look at Tao Chu with resentment and agree.
As soon as Tao Chugang left the balcony, Shen Yingchang couldn't help but speak up sarcastically:
"Mr. Wen's methods are truly eye-opening. He's like a leech that we can't shake off. What, are you planning to climb onto our balcony in the middle of the night?"
Wen Yunsheng ignored him and rushed to open the door to greet Tao Chu, slamming his balcony door shut behind him.
He opened the door, and Tao Chu forced a smile as she looked at him: "Why didn't you say hello before moving in next door?"
He stepped aside to let her in: "I was going to go over and say hello, but as soon as I entered the room and drew back the curtains, I saw you two outside... being all lovey-dovey."
The last four words were spoken through gritted teeth.
Tao Chu awkwardly turned her head away and whispered, "No... it's just that it's windy outside, so he was fixing my hair."
Wen Yunsheng recalled the scene just now, the two of them were face to face so close, it was clearly a kiss.
He couldn't help but lean closer to her, and Tao Chu took a step back, her back against the entryway cabinet.
"Is this how I'm helping you?" Wen Yunsheng gently brushed aside the long hair that was covering her eyes with his fingertips. He watched as she looked up in alarm, and he smelled the scent of peppermint candy again, thinking of the night they reunited on the "Dream Chaser on the River".
Whiskey dripped down her legs, the tie wrapped around her hand, their bodies pressed tightly together, and Wen Yunsheng's throat bobbed.
Did Shen Yingchang also see her looking that beautiful?
Wen Yunsheng suddenly realized that the two cabins were right next to each other. If the soundproofing wasn't good, what would happen if the two of them...
The mere thought of that scene sent waves of jealousy and anger surging through him.
No, he absolutely cannot let Tao Chu go back.
Wen Yunsheng put his arm around her waist and leaned down to kiss the corner of her mouth: "I really can't stand seeing you two together."
Tao Chu's whole body tensed up. She knew she should refuse or even get angry, but as one light kiss after another fell, she did not dodge.
Jealousy and desire can make him more submissive.
Wen Yunsheng sensed her tacit consent, gently nuzzled her nose, and only dared to kiss her lips when he saw that she lowered her eyes without any anger.
With the sweet scent of mint wafting from his soft lips, he kissed the girl he had dreamed of for eight years, his heart pounding in his chest.
He thought of Shen Yingchang, who was only separated from him by a wall. All the jealousy and resentment he had felt over the past few days vanished in that moment. She was in his arms, truly belonging to him.
He kissed her more forcefully and noticed that Tao Chu was having some difficulty breathing.
He loosened his grip slightly and laughed at her, "Can't you breathe? Hasn't he ever kissed you like this before?"
The last sentence, though clearly a provocation, made Tao Chu secretly alarmed—had he given himself away here?
So she wrapped her arms around his neck, squinted at Wen Yunsheng, and said, "He knows more than you do."
These words were like hot oil poured on a fire. Wen Yunsheng's face darkened, and he tightened his grip on her, as if he couldn't wait to prove something to her.
Tao Chu was afraid that he would really be provoked into losing his mind, so she pinched the back of his neck: "You called me here, didn't you want to talk about serious matters?"
Wen Yunsheng lowered his head and took her exposed side of her neck into his mouth, completely forgetting about any important business.
The warm touch and the tingling sensation from the gentle bite made Tao Chu let out a soft moan. Upon hearing this, Wen Yunsheng felt his mind and body burning even hotter, and he pressed himself tightly against her.
Tao Chu still remembered the words he had used to lure her here, and pounded his back: "Weren't you going to see your dad? You said ten minutes, how many minutes are left now..."
"Who cares about a few minutes?" Wen Yunsheng picked her up and carried her to the bedroom, his lips searching for her collarbone.
Tao Chu was immediately panicked—this had set off a huge fire.
