Chapter 26 Fishing and Digging Shepherd's Purse
Li Ruolan and Deng Minghao looked at each other and began to clean up their new home.
Actually, there was nothing much to pack. Apart from some furniture, they hadn't bought anything like bowls, chopsticks and pots yet. They would go there tomorrow morning.
After laying a suitable kang mat on the kang and placing the three boxes they had bought earlier at the end of the kang, they were almost done with the cleaning.
"We've finally moved out. We don't have to squeeze together when sleeping anymore." Li Ruolan lay comfortably on the kang, not wanting to get up at all.
Deng Minghao looked at her with a smile, then wrote down on a piece of paper what he needed to buy tomorrow, including pots, pans, oil, salt, sauce and vinegar.
These things actually exist in the space, but you must buy some of them openly, and then you need to buy a few large water tanks to hold water and pickle vegetables.
There was no well in their yard, so they had to share the same well with the educated youth, so they had to buy a water tank.
Also, even if their work points were added together, they probably wouldn't get much when it came time to distribute food. In order to hide their tracks, they had to go to the grain station to buy some food.
"By the way, we will invite people to dinner at the educated youth center tomorrow night. We won't invite anyone from the village. We can just invite the team leader and the accountant and others." Deng Minghao said to Li Ruolan.
In the countryside, getting a marriage certificate does not mean you are married. Only when you set up the table and walk through the clear road, can it be considered a real marriage.
Li Ruolan hummed: "It's up to you. Of course, you have to cook the dishes. Mine is not as delicious as yours."
The food Li Ruolan cooks is just edible. It can’t be said to be delicious but it’s not bad either. Deng Minghao is the one who cooks delicious food. Usually when they are at home, it is Deng Minghao who cooks.
Deng Minghao threw the paper and pen on the table, then came over and pressed on Li Ruolan: "You can ask me to cook for you, how are you going to thank me?"
"It's not even dark yet, are you shameless?" They have been married for many years. As soon as Deng Minghao leaned over, Li Ruolan knew what he wanted to do and pushed his face away with a look of rejection.
"What is face? Do I have it? I don't want it. I want a wife." Deng Minghao looked like a rogue and held Li Ruolan tightly.
After finally gaining some advantage, Deng Minghao reluctantly let go of Li Ruolan. The two of them locked the doors and windows and entered the space.
The crops in the space have grown a lot taller, but it will take another two months for them to mature. Some vegetables are ripe, but the two did not pick them.
The ripe vegetables in the space will remain ripe and will not go bad as long as they are not picked. A lot of vegetables have been stored in the warehouse, enough for Li Ruolan and others to eat.
After taking out all the eggs laid by chickens, ducks and geese and putting them in the warehouse, Deng Minghao went into the chicken coop and killed an old hen.
"Two pounds of meat and a chicken, I can cook almost two tables of dishes tomorrow. If I fry some eggs and make some vegetarian dishes, this table will be enough." Deng Minghao calculated it in his mind.
Li Ruolan ignored her and went to the warehouse to pick up two large cabbages. The vegetables grown in the space were very large and juicy, and they did not have insects.
Chop two large cabbages into pieces, mix them with corn bran, add some spiritual spring water, and feed them to the pigs.
Now the three pigs have grown to more than 180 kilograms, and they grew in the space for four or five months before crossing here. Now they are considered adult pigs.
It is estimated that it won’t be long before the two sows will give birth to piglets.
After feeding the pigs, Li Ruolan went to the cornfield and picked all the leaves under the corn, and then fed them to the cows and sheep.
Normally, Li Ruolan and Deng Minghao would sneak into the space to feed the pigs, cattle, sheep, chickens, ducks and geese when they went to the mountains.
Sometimes they could only eat one meal a day, but today they were able to eat at noon. These animals worked very hard and ate a lot.
"I'm sorry for the hardship you've suffered. Don't worry, you won't go hungry after having two meals a day."
After feeding the animals, Li Ruolan washed her hands and picked some fruits such as strawberries and blueberries to eat. After eating a few, she heard Deng Minghao calling her to eat.
The meat, vegetable, steamed buns and other things they had bought from the state-owned restaurant had long been eaten up by their own cooking. Now, if they wanted to eat, they had to cook for themselves.
Deng Minghao made three dishes: scrambled eggs with peppers, stir-fried meat with shredded potatoes, and stir-fried broad beans.
The three dishes on the table were very particular. Scrambled eggs with peppers was Deng Minghao's favorite, while Li Ruolan's favorite was fried broad beans, and they never got tired of eating them every meal.
As for the fried meat with shredded potatoes, both of them liked it very much.
Deng Minghao handed the rice and chopsticks to Li Ruolan, and said in an ambiguous manner: "Eat quickly, we have more things to do after you finish eating."
Li Ruolan rolled her eyes speechlessly.
After dinner, the two left the space and looked at their watches. It was almost two o'clock. They went out and took a look and found that the rain outside had stopped, but the sky was still a little dark.
Deng Minghao couldn't sit still when he was free: "Wife, I saw a lot of fish in the river north of the village these days. We are going to have a dinner party tomorrow. Can I go catch two more fish?"
Li Ruolan was speechless: "If you want to go fishing, just go. Why do you have to make up so many excuses?"
Deng Minghao immediately took out a fishing rod he had made by hand out of bamboo from the space, except that the fish hook and float were brought from modern times.
In addition, I also took four traps and planned to go down to the river later and then get them back early tomorrow morning to see if I can catch any fish.
Li Ruolan had nothing to do at home, so she simply followed Deng Minghao. She also helped Deng Minghao bring a small bowl of leftover rice from their lunch, which was to be put into the ground trap as bait.
Now every household was probably eating or taking a nap. In any case, no one from the village came out. Deng Minghao and Li Ruolan quickly arrived at the north of the village.
There are very few people living here, so Deng Minghao, a fisherman, quickly found a suitable place to fish.
He first placed four traps in the river, then took out a small hoe from the space and dug around the river, digging out a lot of earthworms.
With the fishing rod and hooks ready and the earthworms as well, Deng Minghao officially started fishing.
Li Ruolan couldn't understand why Deng Minghao loved fishing, but she didn't think there was anything wrong with it. After seeing Deng Minghao staring at the float seriously, Li Ruolan walked around the area.
Then they found a lot of shepherd's purse. It seemed that shepherd's purse was edible in autumn. Li Ruolan thought about it and went back to get a backpack and a small hoe, ready to dig some shepherd's purse.
If she can dig a lot, she will dry it and then make shepherd's purse dumplings and buns when it snows.
Li Ruolan came back carrying a backpack and a hoe. Just as she locked the door, she saw Zhou Shengnan and Zheng Fanghua also coming out of the educated youth site carrying backpacks.
"Li Zhiqing, where are you going?" the two asked in surprise.
"I saw a lot of shepherd's purse growing by the river, so I'm going to go dig some to eat."
