Chapter 10 Assassin
Asui, who was left in Changchun Palace, met the third prince in the evening. The other party was a little fat man who was a head taller than him.
In order to improve the relationship between the two, Concubine Shu placed Asui in a side hall to live with the third prince.
Late at night, Asui was wrapped in bed in a bad mood. This was the first time he had slept away from home since he could remember, and everything around him was unfamiliar.
Fortunately——
Asui reached under the pillow and pulled out a palm-sized raccoon doll.
This was made for him by his mother and has always been with him. According to Sister Yue'e, this was made by his mother before he was born. When he was a child, he would only fall asleep if he held the little raccoon doll in his hand.
Pinching the tip of the doll's ears, Asui whispered a few words to it until he felt sleepy and fell asleep with his chin resting on it.
After breakfast the next day, Concubine Shu allowed the two to go out and play.
"Hui'er, mother has granted you a day off today. Go play with Sui'er."
Concubine Shu took the gold-thread and jade-inlaid belt from the palace maid, bent down and tied it for the third prince herself.
After fastening her belt, she raised her head and straightened his collar, saying in a friendly tone, "Sui'er is young. You are the prince and the elder brother. You need to take the initiative to shoulder your responsibilities and take good care of your cousin. Do you understand?"
"I understand."
The third prince spoke in a low voice. He was eight years old now and was not short, but because he was greedy, he was fatter than other children of the same age. His face was doughy and he looked very honest.
Concubine Shu frowned, and became even more angry when she saw his timid expression.
"Hui'er, you are a man, you should speak louder. If your father saw you like this, he would not like it!"
She said with a cold face, unable to help but speak loudly.
The Third Prince froze, his expression panicking: "I'm sorry, Mother. I know I was wrong..."
Concubine Shu was furious, her brows furrowed coldly: "I don't need you to apologize, you just need to remember to be more open and generous in everything, and don't be so timid and petty!"
Sometimes she didn’t understand why her family background and status were not bad, so she raised a person with such a character as the Third Prince?
Ultimately, it all comes down to her not being able to have children of her own.
However, the more she did this, the more the Third Prince shrank back. He lowered his head, his face flushed, and said, "Yes, I will remember your teachings, Mother."
Asui, who was standing by, looked at Concubine Shu, then at his cousin the Third Prince, and didn't understand why his aunt Concubine Shu was suddenly so strict.
Concubine Shu was very disappointed with her children, but considering that there were outsiders around, she finally suppressed her anxiety and waved her hand to let the two children go out.
After leaving Changchun Palace, the Third Prince was obviously relieved and became more cheerful.
He remembered Concubine Shu's instructions and turned to look at Asui: "Cousin Lu, have you ever played sepak takraw?"
Ah Sui nodded: "I have played it."
When he was three years old, his mother gave him a sepak takraw ball. Although he was too young to kick it, he would play with it every day.
The Third Prince was delighted: "Then let's go play sepak takraw?"
"good!"
After making a happy decision, the Third Prince ordered the palace servants to fetch his beloved sepak takraw and took Asui to the place where he usually played sepak takraw.
As a result, the game didn't last long. Perhaps the Third Prince thought Asui's kicking was not good enough, so he changed his mind and played hide-and-seek with the palace people.
Asui was not interested in hide-and-seek, so he stayed where he was and played sepak takraw by himself.
Snap——
Missed the kick.
Snap——
The sepak takraw ball was kicked into the grass.
Asui ran to pick it up himself.
Then he stared at the ball at his feet and kicked it hard with all his might—
The sepak takraw flew out, drawing an arc in the air, and finally there was a "bang", and a commotion was heard in the distance.
Asui stood there and blinked.
It seemed to have hit someone.
After the morning court session, on the way back to the Purple Palace, Jiang Fusheng heard Emperor Jingxuan ask, "Did Concubine Shu choose Duke Lu's nephew as the Third Prince's study companion?"
When he saw Lu Yuanduo in the court this morning, he remembered that the other party seemed to have mentioned this matter a few days ago.
Jiang Fusheng: "Your Majesty, that is what happened."
"Lady Lu came to the palace yesterday for this matter. The Third Lady of Lu, Madam Yun, is the mother of the young master of the Lu family. I heard that Concubine Shu really likes the little nephew and specially let him stay in Changchun Palace for one night."
Emperor Jingxuan was not surprised. Concubine Shu always liked her nephews and nieces from her natal family. She had taken the initiative to ask her eldest brother's eldest son to be the first study companion for the third prince.
For the emperor, the most taboo thing was the royal family forming cliques and factions for personal gain. However, ever since the Third Prince was registered under the name of Concubine Shu and handed over to her for upbringing, it was assumed by outsiders that the Lu family was the Third Prince's lineage, and that this was approved by the emperor.
Even though he had been accompanying the emperor for many years, Jiang Fusheng was still unsure of Emperor Jingxuan's thoughts. After a moment's hesitation, he asked tentatively, "I heard that the Third Prince has been very diligent and dedicated to his studies recently. Your Majesty, why don't you go and take a look?"
To be honest, his wording was a bit clumsy, but he couldn't think of any other reason for the time being. After all, as the eunuch in front of the emperor, Jiang Fusheng knew best that His Majesty had been cultivating himself and had been unlucky with the concubines for many years. It was only for the sake of the several royal heirs that he had time to visit the harem.
Perhaps this suggestion was exactly what Emperor Jingxuan wanted, and he nodded calmly: "There's nothing else to do, let's go and take a look."
Jiang Fusheng hurriedly followed.
However, just after passing the Imperial Garden, a strange object flew in from mid-air and headed straight towards this side.
There was a loud bang above Jiang Fusheng's head, and his face turned pale as paper.
Responding, he protected Emperor Jingxuan and screamed, "Protect the emperor! Protect the emperor!"
"There's an assassin!"
As soon as he shouted, the scene became chaotic and the palace servants were as frightened as birds and beasts.
Bang--
The unidentified object flying in the air finally hit Jiang Fusheng's chest, then quickly landed on the ground, rolled a few times and stopped next to a pair of dark green brocade boots embroidered with dragon claw patterns.
When everyone saw what the murder weapon was, they were all shocked.
Emperor Jingxuan lowered his eyes and glanced at the rattan ball at his feet, his expression calm.
"S-Sorry! I kicked that ball!"
The sudden sound made people alert and they all looked towards the source of the sound.
There was a slight rustling sound from behind the dense grass half a person's height, and the next moment a child emerged.
When Asui realized that he had hit someone, he quickly took a shortcut and ran away.
Pushing aside the bushes in front of him, he saw a large group of people with slightly dazed expressions.
There are so many people.
Seeing that it was just a young child, the palace servants present were obviously relieved.
"You, you, you! How could you be so careless as a kid? Do you know that your ball hit someone?"
Jiang Fusheng rushed over, put his hands on his hips and scolded.
Asui nodded, his hands in his pockets and an apologetic look on his face.
Seeing that he still admitted his mistake, Jiang Fusheng softened his tone a little: "You look unfamiliar. Whose family are you from? Why don't you tell me your name? And where are the servants around you?"
Ah Sui said truthfully, "My name is Lu Changsui. I am a child of Duke Lu's mansion. Consort Shu is my aunt. I wanted to play alone so I didn't ask anyone to come with me."
He was afraid that the palace people would think he was being punished, so he told a little lie.
Seeing the sepak takraw mark on Jiang Fusheng’s chest, Asui felt even more guilty.
"I'm sorry, sir. I hit you with the ball I kicked. I apologize."
He bowed to Jiang Fusheng and performed a standard apology.
This was the first time Jiang Fusheng had seen such a polite child, and the anger in his heart dissipated a lot at once.
but--
