Chapter 138 The Prince Apologies
"Excuse me, Your Majesty, what is it that you must tell me at this hour?"
After being woken up from her sleep, Yun Wan spoke in a gloomy tone.
Her loose, inky black hair fell on both sides, covering half of her face and expression. Even so, one could still sense her depression.
The word "must" seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth, and his tone became heavier.
Oops.
The lady seemed even angrier.
Realizing what a stupid thing he had done, Emperor Jingxuan suddenly felt guilty.
In the final analysis, I still have to blame Wei Tong and Minister Gao, otherwise I would not have made such an unwise choice.
He tentatively reached out and climbed onto her shoulder. Seeing that she didn't move away, Emperor Jingxuan coaxed her in a low voice: "Madam, don't be angry. It's my fault for disturbing your sleep."
Yun Wan sat on the side of the couch, tilted his head slightly when he heard the words, and said with a purse of his lips: "Your Majesty, please talk about the important matters."
Seeing this, Emperor Jingxuan knew she was still angry, so he carefully chose his words and asked, "Madam, are you ignoring me because you are angry with me and the Crown Prince? Is it because of the Crown Prince's attack on Chang Sui?"
"I dare not."
Yun Wan pursed her lips and continued, "His Royal Highness the Crown Prince is your eldest son and the crown prince of Great Qi. He is of noble status and an important person to you. I am but a concubine. How dare I be angry with you and your son?"
Her tone was clear and cold, but to Emperor Jingxuan it sounded like a coquettish expression, not annoyance at all.
"Madam, please don't talk nonsense."
He leaned closer, raised his hand and gently pressed the person against his chest. His voice was low and pleasant, "Madam and Chang Sui are even more important to me. No matter how high the Crown Prince's status is, he is still a junior in front of Madam. He should call Madam his concubine mother."
Although Changsui doesn't keep his word and has a small sieve in his mouth, he is still his own son after all.
Suddenly remembering that he had expressed his concern for him in front of everyone at noon, Emperor Jingxuan's heart suddenly swelled.
Still a caring child.
How many fathers in this world could truly receive such care from their sons? At least the Crown Prince and the Third Prince had never shown him any.
Heartbroken.
"In front of the ministers, I can't be too harsh on the Crown Prince. Otherwise, others, unaware of the reason, might mistakenly think the Crown Prince is being punished because of Chang Sui, which would be detrimental to you and your son."
At that time in the afternoon, he did have the idea of deposing the crown prince, but after calming down, he was glad that some ministers dissuaded him.
Emperor Jingxuan knew very well that he could punish the crown prince and depose him, but he must never involve Yun Wan and her son, and must never let people think that it was his favor for the mother and son that caused this.
Otherwise, those who openly or secretly support the prince will turn around and attack Yun Wan and her son, especially rumors that hurt people and are hard to guard against.
He can't silence everyone, so how is that different from a tyrant?
Upon hearing this, Yun Wan's eyes moved slightly.
Emperor Jingxuan rested his chin on her neck, nuzzled it and said, "Madam, if you are still angry, please vent it to me. Don't keep it in your heart."
Whether it's beating, scolding, or biting him, it's all between them and no one else knows.
"You taught Chang Sui to be less angry, saying it's bad for his health, but why did you forget about it when it was Madam's turn?"
Yun Wan turned her head and snorted, "I dare not throw a tantrum at you."
He wanted to explain, and she naturally listened to him. The anger she had in the afternoon had long since dissipated.
Emperor Jingxuan was delighted, and then he heard her say, "I am not only angry about the Crown Prince attacking Asui."
After a pause, Yun Wan spoke her mind, "I'm still angry about why you told Ah Sui to keep it a secret? Am I the kind of person who's always nitpicking?"
If you don’t let Asui tell her, won’t she know tomorrow?
Emperor Jingxuan complained bitterly and hurriedly explained, "Madam is naturally not such a person. I was mistaken. Madam is the most magnanimous person."
Yun Wan: "Even if Ah Sui was pushed to the ground, it wasn't your Majesty's fault, so how could I blame you?"
Emperor Jingxuan nodded: "Yes, it's my fault, madam, please don't be angry."
Wei Tong said that the lady would not be wrong, and he remembered it very well.
Finally, we talked it out and didn't leave the misunderstanding until tomorrow. My heart gradually settled down.
Just as she was about to open her mouth to say something, Yun Wan said in a deep voice, "Then may I ask, Your Majesty, may I go to sleep?"
Facing her expressionless face with sleepy eyes, Emperor Jingxuan smiled awkwardly, "Madam, go to sleep."
After saying this, Yun Wan lay down, closed her eyes and fell asleep.
Emperor Jingxuan then lay down, his long arms restlessly wrapped around her slender waist, his chest pressed against her back, and he sighed.
Finally I can hug my wife and fall asleep again.
........
The next day, Concubine Li and the Crown Prince came to apologize, and everyone in the palace was staring at them. After all, it was no secret that the Crown Prince was punished to kneel yesterday because he was disrespectful to his elders, contradicted the Emperor, and spoke rudely to Concubine Yun.
This was the first time Yun Wan saw the imperial concubine dressed so simply with a smile on her face. The prince beside her had his head down and looked a little haggard.
I don't know if it's true or not, but my walking posture is a little strained.
Noticing her gaze, Concubine Li spoke, "Sister Yun, please forgive me for making fun of you. The Crown Prince knelt for two hours in the Qinzheng Palace yesterday. After returning, I was heartbroken that he almost made a big mistake, so I ordered him to kneel for another two hours."
She pushed the prince and said sternly, "Prince, why don't you apologize to your Concubine Yunmu?"
The gloom in his eyes flashed away, and the prince bowed to Yun Wan, his voice flat and even: "Your son made a slip of the tongue yesterday, and today I have come to apologize to Concubine Yunmu. I hope you will forgive me!"
Seeing the mother and son's behavior, Yun Wan spoke gently: "I accept the Crown Prince's apology. Since you have an injury on your leg, please get up quickly."
"Come here, give His Royal Highness a seat."
The Crown Prince: "Thank you, Concubine Yun."
Concubine Li looked around, a complex expression flashing in her eyes.
She quickly concealed her feelings and said with envy, "My sister's place is truly spacious and luxurious, beautiful to the point of perfection. His Majesty truly cares for me."
Yun Wan smiled faintly: "Your Majesty, you are too kind. It is not even half as good as the Imperial Concubine's Yaohua Palace."
Anyone could tell that this was a polite remark. Concubine Li smiled and did not mention it again. Instead, she asked:
"Why isn't Young Master Lu here? Yesterday, thanks to him for not getting into an argument with the Crown Prince and for trying to dissuade His Majesty, I wanted to thank him in person."
Yun Wan shook her head: "That's too much. Chang Sui is just a little kid. I don't deserve the Queen's thanks."
"That child returned to the Hongwenguan this morning, causing the Imperial Concubine to make a wasted trip."
She answered flawlessly and accepted the prince's apology well. There was no trace of coldness or dissatisfaction on her face, only politeness and alienation.
Concubine Li couldn't help but feel disappointed.
Since her goal had been achieved, there was nothing more to talk about with Yun Wan, so she chatted for a few minutes and then found an excuse to go back.
Yun Wan did not respond. He came out of the front hall and walked around. When he came back, he saw someone peeking at the gate corridor.
She hesitated for a moment and asked softly, "Would you like to come in and sit down?"
