Chapter 38 Sheltering from the Rain

Chapter 38 Sheltering from the Rain

Boom——

A loud thunderclap sounded, and in an instant the weather changed. The sky was dark and covered with dark clouds. In an instant, the clear sky suddenly turned into a storm.

Yun Wan and his servant quickened their pace and returned in the direction they came from, looking a little anxious.

Suddenly, a strong wind blew, and the trees in the garden swayed and rustled. The light gradually disappeared, and was replaced by gloom.

Yueya cursed the damn weather while protecting Yunwan to prevent her from being hurt by branches broken by the wind.

But the further they walked, the more they felt something was wrong. Yueya held Yunwan and said hesitantly, "Madam, it seems we didn't take this road when we came here..."

The princess's mansion is even bigger than the duke's mansion, and with its layers of winding paths and pathways, it's easy to get lost if you're not careful.

Yun Wan has always been slow at finding her way. Unless she has walked a road several times, she always rushes forward based on her intuition.

After hearing Yueya's words, she stopped and looked around.

Now she vaguely realized that something was wrong. She remembered passing a square pavilion when she came here, but now she didn't see anything after walking all the way.

A maid from the princess's mansion happened to pass by, and Yueya quickly grabbed her and asked, "We are guests attending Her Royal Highness the Princess' birthday banquet today. We are lost and want to return to the front hall. Could you please lead the way for us?"

The maidservant was not happy to be stopped suddenly. When she heard that the other party was the princess's guest, she could only politely say: "I'm sorry, I have something urgent to do and can't lead the way for you. If you want to go back to the front hall, go straight from here and then turn..."

She stretched out her hand to point the way for the two of them, spoke quickly, and left in a hurry without waiting for their response.

After listening, Yun Wan and Yue Ya looked at each other and both saw confusion.

Yun Wan simply said, "Forget it, let's go first!"

Walking along the path pointed by the maid, the trees around me suddenly increased. Everywhere I went was incredibly quiet, as if I had entered another place.

Yueya worriedly said, "Madam, it seems we've taken the wrong path... How about we go back the way we came?"

As soon as the words fell, bean-sized raindrops fell from the sky and hit the two of them. Then the raindrops made a loud noise, instantly breaking the silence of the place.

The rain was getting heavier and heavier, and in an instant it soaked half of Yunwan's sleeves and hair.

A flash of lightning streaked across the sky, and suddenly spring thunder struck, frightening the master and servant.

It would be inappropriate to return the same way, as they had not seen any pavilions or eaves to shelter from the rain along the way.

Yun Wan: "Let's go to the front and find a place to hide from the rain first!"

Otherwise, if this continues, they will be soaked like drowned rats, and if they catch a cold when they go back, they will catch a cold.

Yueya looked around, and suddenly her eyes lit up and she said in a joyful voice, "Madam, there is a yard over there!"

Yun Wan also saw the place she pointed, and decisively pulled Yueya towards the yard.

As we got closer, the entire courtyard came into view. It was an elegant and quiet courtyard with a layout similar to that of a wing room.

Yun Wan guessed that this should be a place for guests to rest, but she didn't understand why it was located in such a remote place.

Yueya: "Madam, the rain is getting heavier. The yard is not locked. Let's go to the porch to take shelter from the rain."

Yun Wan had no objection, and the two of them walked along the corner of the wall into the pavilion, finally avoiding the rain.

Yueya stared at the rain in front of her and murmured, "I don't know how long this rain will stop. If I miss the time to return home, the old lady will miss you again..."

Yun Wan was calm: "Don't panic, the rain came quickly and should go away quickly. Besides, there are so many guests today, we are definitely not the only ones trapped by the rain."

"You're right. If it were any later, Her Royal Highness would have sent someone to look for me."

“...........”

It was raining heavily, and the sound of the rain mixed with intermittent voices came into the room, like mosquitoes buzzing in the ears, leaving no peace for a moment.

On the square couch, the person with closed eyes suddenly opened them. A cold and vicious look flashed across his deep and cold phoenix eyes, and the air pressure around him dropped to the extreme.

"Jiang Fusheng."

He spoke slowly, his tone cold as ice.

Jiang Fusheng, who was hesitating and preparing to drive the people outside away, suddenly heard his master calling him. He entered the inner room tremblingly and stopped behind the screen waiting for instructions.

Emperor Jingxuan rubbed his swollen forehead and said displeasedly: "Go see who is making noise outside and drive them away for me."

"I'll go right away."

After receiving the order, Jiang Fusheng walked out with a stern face, his feet moving fast and filled with anger.

He wanted to see who was so bold as to disturb His Majesty's peace!

A moment later, Jiang Fusheng came back timidly and replied in a low voice: "Your Majesty, it is Madam Lu and her maid who are taking shelter from the rain under the porch."

There was silence behind the screen.

Jiang Fusheng's thoughts shifted, and he boldly tried to guess the emperor's intentions, saying cautiously, "From a distance, I saw that the pavilion was not sheltered from the wind and rain, and Madam Lu's clothes seemed to have been soaked by the rain."

After he finished speaking, he felt uneasy, fearing that his words would backfire.

Silence spread everywhere. Just when Jiang Fusheng's heart was in turmoil, a deep and clear voice came from behind the screen:

"Send her in."

Having guessed His Majesty's thoughts, Jiang Fusheng breathed a sigh of relief and went out again holding the dustpan.

Yun Wan had retreated to the innermost part of the corridor, but the wind was so strong that it brought rain slanting in. Inevitably, large areas of the clothes of the master and servant were wet.

There is nowhere to hide except in the house, but if I rush in, I don’t know if there is anyone in the side room, and it’s always bad to disturb others.

While hesitating, Jiang Fusheng appeared and greeted Yun Wan in a gentle voice, "Mrs. Lu, we meet again."

Yun Wan was stunned: "Eunuch Jiang? Why are you here?"

She subconsciously glanced in the direction of the wing room. Since Eunuch Jiang was here, did it mean that his master was also here?

"The people inside........?" She pointed in the direction of the wing room, her meaning was self-evident.

Jiang Fusheng nodded: "Mrs. Lu guessed correctly, it is His Majesty."

After a brief explanation, he stated his purpose: "Mrs. Lu, His Majesty asks you to come inside to avoid the rain."

Yun Wan: "Your Majesty, I appreciate your kindness. We will be fine here and will not bother you any more."

Yun Wan was reluctant to appear before Emperor Jingxuan.

She never thought that she would meet him in this remote courtyard of the princess's mansion.

Jiang Fusheng shook his head and insisted, "This is His Majesty's will. I dare not disobey. Madam Lu, please..."

He turned sideways and made a 'please' gesture, with a smile on his round face.

He doesn't look like a good person.

Seeing this, Yun Wan knew that she couldn't refuse, so she pursed her lips and followed.

Like being forced to do something unmanageable, Yun Wan came to the door of the compartment and slowly pushed it open under Jiang Fusheng's smiling face.
