Chapter 42 Sending People
Yun Wan is sick.
The disease came on very violently. At first, I thought it was just a cold and I would be cured by taking a few medicines. However, after several days, the condition did not improve at all.
In the quiet house, only one light was left on, and the rest were out. The doctor diagnosed that Yun Wan was suffering from an evil wind invading his body. At this moment, the servants closed all the window frames inside and outside the house, leaving only a gap for ventilation.
There was a faint smell of medicine in the air, the light-colored bed curtains fluttered in the breeze, a bulge appeared on the bed, and occasional coughing sounds could be heard.
Yueya knocked lightly on the door and came in, "Madam, the medicine is ready."
Hearing the cough, she quickly put down the tray in her hand, walked to the bed and lifted the curtain.
A small pink and white face came into view.
Yun Wan was lying on the bed, curled up in the soft silk quilt, her long black hair spread out on the soft pillow.
The face hidden under the corner of the quilt had its eyes tightly closed, sweat on its temples, an abnormal blush on its delicate and snow-white skin, and its small sandalwood lipstick was bright red.
Her thin eyebrows were frowned from time to time. At this moment, she felt hot and cold, dizzy, and did not sleep well.
With deep worry in her eyes, Yueya took out a clean handkerchief and wiped the sweat from her neck, her movements gentle and careful.
Yun Wan gradually woke up, lifted her heavy eyelids, and asked in a half-asleep state, "Have you sent Asui off?"
As soon as he spoke, his throat felt like it was being cut by a knife. His voice was weak and hoarse, revealing the fatigue of his illness.
Yueya: "Yue'e sent the young master to the carriage half an hour ago. I think the young master should be here by now."
Thinking of her own clever and handsome young master, she smiled and said to Yun Wanduo deliberately, "Yue'e said that the young master was worried about your health before he got on the carriage. He asked when you would recover from your illness and told the servants to take good care of you!"
Hearing about his son, Yun Wan forced a smile and said helplessly, "This kid! Why is he still worrying about adults' affairs?"
The day before yesterday, Asui came back from Hongwenguan. When he learned that his mother was sick, he stayed by her side and was unwilling to go anywhere.
He was supposed to go back yesterday, but he took a day off because he was worried about Yun Wan.
The holiday is over today and I have to go back.
Yun Wan was afraid of passing her illness on to the child these past two days, so the frequency of their meetings decreased drastically. At noon, she instructed her personal maid to take Asui away from home in a carriage.
The strands of hair on her forehead were wet with sweat and stuck to the sides of her cheeks. Her skin was cold and pale, with a pink tinge due to illness, and she exuded a faint fragrance.
He turned over, his limbs felt sore, and Yun Wan raised his hand: "I'm tired of lying down, help me up."
Yueya carefully helped her up and continued, "The young master is worried about you, so Madam, you should rest assured and recuperate. Get well soon so that the young master won't worry about you."
Yun Wan sighed sadly, "It takes time to grow up."
Yun Wan usually pays attention to health preservation and rarely gets sick, but she didn't expect that she would be so seriously ill when she got sick.
She picked up the steaming hot medicine, frowned, endured the bitterness, and drank it in one breath.
Being sick is not a pleasant feeling, and Yun Wan wants to recover as soon as possible. However, things go against her wishes. Half a month later, she is still sick and her condition recurs.
In a short time, she lost a lot of weight.
At first, the old lady didn't take it seriously. After all, who doesn't get sick? She didn't like Yun Wan in the first place. It was just a minor ailment. Wouldn't it be better if the doctor gave her a few injections and boiled some herbal medicine?
But now Yun Wan's illness has not improved, and she can't help but worry.
Of course, it wasn't that she cared about Yun Wan that much, she was simply heartbroken for her little grandson, Asui, whose father had passed away before he was even born. If his mother also passed away, he would have to suffer the pain of losing his mother at such a young age...
As luck would have it, Asui really became a child without a father or a mother.
Unfortunately, even though he invited doctors from the best clinic in the capital to treat him, they were only able to treat the symptoms and not the root cause.
When Duke Lu Yuanduo was about to hand over a sign to summon the imperial physician, the gatekeeper came in breathlessly, reporting:
"My Lord, someone is coming from the palace!"
..........
Lu Yuanduo was really surprised to see the group of people, especially Jiang Fusheng who was in the lead.
His appearance must be to convey the emperor's will.
"Eunuch Jiang, what are you doing?" He hesitated with confusion.
Jiang Fusheng smiled and said, "I heard that your Third Madam has been ill for a long time and His Majesty has specially sent Doctor Zhou to treat her."
Doctor Zhou was the one who followed behind him. He was a thin middle-aged man with a goatee. He was the director of the Imperial Medical Bureau and the imperial physician.
In other words, this Imperial Physician Zhou was a highly skilled doctor, and he only treated the Emperor.
Lu Yuanduo was horrified, but looked confused as he asked, "What's going on? Please, Eunuch Jiang, please explain."
How could Yun Wan's illness have alarmed His Majesty? He even dispatched Imperial Physician Zhou, a privilege not even enjoyed by high-ranking officials or concubines in the harem.
Thinking of his master's 'shameful' thoughts, Jiang Fusheng, the imperial steward, naturally understood everything. However, he still maintained a businesslike expression and said with a smile:
"It's a long story, and it's related to Young Master Lu and Young Master Pei. I'll tell you the details on the way. Now, the most important thing is to treat Madam Lu."
Lu Yuanduo said yes and led the two to Cuiwei Garden.
Along the way, listening to Jiang Fusheng's explanation of the cause and effect, Lu Yuanduo's confusion was slowly resolved.
Because he was worried about Yun Wan's illness, Asui was absent-minded and distracted in the bachelor's class for several days.
After lunch today, Asui didn't go anywhere. He just hid in a corner behind the school building and was in a daze.
It was a dead corner with weeds nearby and a secluded location, perfect for quiet solitude. It was also the place Asui discovered by chance. Sometimes when he was unhappy, he would come here alone and sit on the stone to grow mushrooms.
He missed his mother.
I wonder if my mother’s illness has been cured?
Before leaving, Sister Yue'e said that as long as he behaved himself, A'niang's illness would be cured when he returned this time.
But last night Asui dreamed that his mother was asleep and he couldn't wake her up. He was so scared that he woke up in the middle of the night and cried secretly while holding his stuffed cat.
Squatting on the ground, pulling weeds with his chubby little hands, Asui's fair and cute face was full of loss and longing, and his delicate eyebrows and eyes were red.
Suddenly, there was a rustling sound from the grass in the corner, as if something was moving.
Asui immediately stood up from the stone and looked towards the source of the sound vigilantly.
The weeds were pulled aside, revealing a dark face. The man was surprised to see Ah Sui: "Huh? Why is it you?"
"What are you doing hiding here?"
Ah Sui's face was stern. "I should be the one asking you this question. Why did you crawl through the dog hole?"
Pei Qian grumbled and scratched his head sheepishly. "I'm just bored, aren't I? I saw a hole here and wanted to drill in to see what's behind it."
Pei Qian likes cockfighting, dog racing, climbing walls and trees, and it is not uncommon for him to occasionally crawl into a dog hole.
He was frank and sincere, his parents were powerful, and Emperor Jingxuan was also good to his nephew, so as long as he did not cause trouble, everyone turned a blind eye.
Jumping out from the weeds, he stared at Asui and said, "Are you crying?"
Asui's body stiffened and he wiped his eyes subconsciously.
Pei Qian dusted himself off and said, "Are you homesick?"
Ah Sui pursed his lips but didn't deny it. "When I came here, my mother was still sick. She saw the doctor and took a lot of medicine, but she didn't get better."
“…I miss her.”
Pei Qian scratched his face, and suddenly an idea struck him: "This is easy!"
"Come with me!"
He grabbed Asui's clothes and walked out.
Ah Sui was dragged a few steps by him, "Where are you going?"
Pei Qian said confidently, "Looking for my uncle the Emperor!"
