Chapter 14
On their wedding night, the Demon Palace was bustling with activity and numerous guests. It wasn't impossible for a villain to infiltrate and attempt to harm them. However, the Demon Palace was heavily guarded, and very few people were able to approach the rooms.
Ah Yun was originally assigned to serve her, and being close to the room was the most convenient option. If she were to poison the food, it would be virtually impossible to guard against.
Perhaps we should investigate this Ah Yun first.
The thought that the person who might try to harm her was someone close to her made her feel extremely uneasy.
Shenlong Palace.
Leng Huai looked at the red flames rising from the mouth of the golden fire dragon in the main hall, and said with a slight parting of his thin lips: "Speak."
“Mo Qiuxin went through the wedding ceremony as usual yesterday, but her whereabouts were suspicious on two occasions.”
"Oh?" Leng Huai played with the jade in his hand, a meaningful look in his eyes. She was right under his nose, yet she still acted strangely twice.
"The first time was in the bedroom. Her parents had left the room, and a maid entered. I was trying to peek inside when I discovered that the room was surrounded by a strange and powerful magical force. It disappeared after the maid left. But I don't know what they did in the room."
"Which maid?" Leng Huai asked.
Qiao Yun recalled the maid's appearance, "She was the cook in the woodshed, Mu Xiaoxiao."
Leng Huai naturally knew Mu Xiaoxiao; she was the daughter of his savior. He had originally intended to bestow upon her the title of princess, but she only wished to work as a cook in the kitchen.
When Leng Huai first saw the petite Mu Xiaoxiao, he didn't notice any unusual or powerful abilities. He never expected that Mu Xiaoxiao would surpass Qiao Yun's magical power after a few years.
He lowered his eyes in thought. Mu Xiaoxiao had been working under his nose since entering the palace, but now she was secretly practicing magic. What was her intention?
"Continue." His thin lips parted slightly, his eyes revealing no emotion.
"The second time was when she sneaked into the bridal chamber. There was a whole table of food on the table, but she didn't touch it at all, even though she was starving." Qiao Yun stopped there.
Qiao Yun's meaning was crystal clear: Mo Xiaoxin and Mu Xiaoxiao had conspired to poison him and kill him.
Although Mu Xiaoxiao is the daughter of his savior, he would not keep her if she harbored any malicious intentions.
Mo Xiaoxin was unaware that Leng Huai had not only targeted her, but Mu Xiaoxiao had also been innocently caught in the crossfire.
She was still wearing her bright red wedding dress; she had fallen asleep too quickly last night and hadn't even had time to take it off.
She tidied herself up and felt much better.
Thinking of A-Yun's strange behavior, she felt a chill run down her spine.
The most urgent task now is to find the culprit who poisoned us.
After all, if she were killed by someone else, she would suffer a great loss.
She opened the door and suddenly felt a dark shadow drift past overhead.
When she looked up, there was nothing there.
That's strange. Did she just see things wrong?
Qiao Yun quickly hid behind a tree.
He felt a wave of embarrassment. He had just returned from his master's place and had just run into Mo Xiaoxin. Luckily, he was quick and didn't notice him.
He saw Mo Xiaoxin hurriedly come out of the room, and then sneakily run into the servants' room.
His suspicions were indeed correct; their new demon queen and her maid, Mu Xiaoxiao, had conspired to murder their master.
He immediately perked up; he needed to observe her carefully so that his lord wouldn't suffer any loss.
Mo Xiaoxin decided to investigate Ayun thoroughly.
Last night, Ah Yun failed to poison him, so she will definitely try something again. She must be the first to see through Ah Yun's trick.
After searching for a long time, Mo Xiaoxin still couldn't find Ayun.
Several maids were asked, but none of them knew A-Yun's whereabouts.
It's rest time now, and all the servants should be resting in their rooms, but A-Yun is the only one missing. This makes Mo Xiaoxin even more suspicious that A-Yun is the murderer.
Just as she was about to leave the courtyard, she suddenly noticed a figure in the corner. Upon closer inspection, she recognized it as A-Yun, the person she had been looking for.
Ayun looked around suspiciously, and seeing no one, she walked into a small path.
Mo Xiaoxin quickly followed behind her, keeping a safe distance so as not to alert the enemy, just enough to catch a glimpse of Ayun.
The path wound its way through the air, with many water jars on both sides. She pressed herself against the wall, trying not to make a sound, and darted away like a cat whenever she passed a jar.
She peeked out from the edge of the jar with one eye. Ah Yun was walking very fast, her steps as swift as clouds, as if she were flying. An ordinary maid would not be able to walk as fast as her; she was clearly a trained martial artist.
Ayun walked to a fork in the road and suddenly disappeared.
Mo Xiaoxin quickly chased after him, but the fork in the road to the right was a dead end, and he did not see Ayun's figure.
Strange, she clearly saw A-Yun walk from the right, but where did she go?
Did A-Yun find out about her?
That shouldn't be the case; she's already been so careful.
Just as Mo Xiaoxin was still struggling with her decision, she suddenly heard a noise behind her.
She quickly hid behind a jar in the corner, which was a blind spot that completely concealed her.
Suddenly, a door appeared where there had been a wall.
Ayun came out from behind the door.
It turns out there was another path behind the stone wall of this dead end.
Ayun left in a hurry, without stopping, following the same route she had taken.
After A-Yun left, Mo Xiaoxin came out. She glanced at the perfectly sealed wall, reached out and touched it. It was indeed a solid wall. She wondered what kind of magic A-Yun had used to hide the door.
If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she certainly wouldn't have believed there was another door here.
She groped around, trying to find a mechanism to get in, but after searching for a long time, she couldn't find any and had to give up.
She became increasingly curious, wondering what secretive things A-Yun was doing inside.
After Mo Xiaoxin left the courtyard, Qiao Yun went through the hidden door to check, but found nothing unusual. The courtyard was overgrown with weeds and looked very dirty and messy, as if no one lived there. He didn't think much of it, remembering his task of supervising Mo Xiaoxin, and hurriedly left.
Afterwards, Qiao Yun told Leng Huai everything about Mo Xiaoxin following A Yun.
Leng Huai's gaze sharpened, and Qiao Yun knew that Mo Xiaoxin's days were numbered.
When Mo Xiaoxin returned to her room, she found Ayun waiting for her outside the door.
Ayun's face remained expressionless, showing no reaction to Mo Xiaoxin's gaze, as if nothing had happened.
Mo Xiaoxin didn't want to question her now, as she hadn't obtained any evidence yet, and words alone wouldn't suffice.
She walked up to him as usual and asked, "Ah Yun, when are we eating?"
Ayun replied softly, "I'll go ask right away."
Leng Huai has not shown up, and Mo Xiaoxin has not taken the initiative to harass him. The most urgent task is to find the poisoner. It is not too late to complete the mission after dealing with the murderer.
Mo Xiaoxin didn't take the initiative to find Leng Huai, but Leng Huai wouldn't let her go.
As soon as Ayun left, Mo Xiaoxin saw Leng Huai's personal female bodyguard walking towards her.
She remembered her name was something like Zi.
Oh, right, Ziyu.
The latter was aggressive and clearly had ill intentions.
Mo Xiaoxin sensed something was off about the newcomer and gave him a wary look: "What do you want?"
Could it be that she's being sent to kill her?
Just when Mo Xiaoxin thought Ziyu was going to harm her and that her million was about to be gone, Ziyu stopped in front of her and said to her in a very reluctant tone, "Demon Queen, please move to the main hall. The Lord has something to ask you."
Not kill her?
That's good, that's good.
However, judging from her expression, it probably wasn't anything good that Leng Huai was looking for her.
Mo Xiaoxin followed Ziyu into the Divine Dragon Palace with a nervous heart.
The entire hall is imposing and exudes an aura of majesty.
Leng Huai sat on the throne, looking down at her.
As she was still exploring the grandeur of the palace, two guards approached from both sides, brandishing knives and holding them to her neck without a word.
The guard shouted, "Kneel down!"
Mo Xiaoxin was startled. The cold aura of the horizontal blade was overwhelming. She felt her legs go weak and she was forced to kneel down.
Leng Huai's expression was not good; he had a long face, as if someone owed him tens of millions.
Mo Xiaoxin pursed her lips; she really wanted to tell him.
Come on, you might as well kill me.
However, Leng Huai was far away from her and had no intention of killing her.
"Hey, Leng Huai, you tied me up here without saying a word and made me kneel on this cold ground. What do you want?" Mo Xiaoxin asked, dissatisfied.
"You dare to make such a scene after plotting against the Demon Lord!" The guard's blade drew even closer.
The closer the broadsword got to her, the more dizzy Mo Xiaoxin felt from the magic.
It took me a while to recover.
Leng Huai looked down at her: "Did you poison her?"
She widened her eyes and protested, "Didn't I say I didn't do it? Besides, you have no proof that I did it! You just arrested me without even asking what happened. Is this the rule of the demon realm?"
“Evidence? Of course I have it.” Leng Huai took out the venom hidden in the soil.
"What does that prove? It's everywhere in this mud demon palace."
"But what if it was found in your room?"
Mo Xiaoxin was shocked: "How is this possible?"
"Mo Qiuxin, you conspired with Mu Xiaoxiao to poison me. Now that Mu Xiaoxiao has abandoned you, let's see how you try to explain yourself."
She could understand each of Leng Huai's individual words, but why couldn't she understand them when they were put together?
What does this have to do with Mu Xiaoxiao?
Wait, did he just say Mu Xiaoxiao left?
"Xiaoxiao is gone? Where did she go?"
Leng Huai sneered: "What? Still trying to pretend you don't know anything? Well, being abandoned by your accomplices and having to take all the blame is pretty miserable."
His tone was full of sarcasm and disdain.
No wonder there was no breakfast in her room when she woke up this morning. When she asked A-Yun, A-Yun couldn't explain it either; it turned out that Mu Xiaoxiao had left without saying goodbye.
Mo Xiaoxin calmed down and analyzed the situation. Although Mu Xiaoxiao's series of actions made her feel that she was not an ordinary person, after spending so many days together, she felt that Xiaoxiao was a very cute and kind girl. How could she possibly poison and frame her?
"No, it can't be Xiaoxiao, don't wrong an innocent person!"
Mo Xiaoxin was a little agitated and didn't even realize when her neck was near the edge of the knife. It was only when the guard noticed the bloodstains on Mo Xiaoxin's neck that he moved the knife away a little.
Both guards felt uneasy.
After all, she is their Demon Queen. The Demon Lord has not yet given orders on how to deal with her, so they dare not harm her.
Leng Huai had obviously also seen the blood seeping from Mo Xiaoxin's neck, but his face showed no unusual expression; he remained indifferent.
Seeing that the Demon Lord was not angered by this, the two guards were slightly relieved.
After a while, Mo Xiaoxin felt a pain and a cool sensation in her neck. She touched it and found bloodstains. Startled, her heart pounded, and she moved away from the knife.
Thank goodness, she almost died by accident; luckily, she realized it too late.
Leng Huai looked at her from above, his eyes seemingly mocking, as if to say, "How incredibly stupid."
She naturally noticed Leng Huai's gaze, and a surge of anger rose within her.
Damn it, this bastard looked down on me.
Leng Huai: "Really?"
Leng Huai pointed to a box on the ground: "What's that?"
Mo Xiaoxin found a medicine box had fallen out of her hands; it was the medicine box that Mu Xiaoxiao had given her.
Mo Xiaoxin's heart skipped a beat. Now things were really messed up; she really couldn't reason with him.
