Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Countless snakes crawled throughout the room, searching for a way out. Finally, after much exploration, they discovered a hole in a corner of the window. A long, large snake led the way, and the others followed, rushing out.

Breathing in the outside air, the black snakes became unusually excited and slithered around wildly.

It was late at night, and the Ye family had already turned off their lights and gone to bed. The entire courtyard was quiet, and no one noticed the commotion.

A servant needed to use the outhouse in the middle of the night. He hurriedly opened the outhouse door, carrying a lamp, and took off his pants to relieve himself.

A cool breeze suddenly blew up from behind, making him shiver.

He turned his head and out of the corner of his eye, he seemed to catch a glimpse of something long standing there, staring in his direction. He was a little puzzled, as there didn't seem to be anything there when he went to the toilet before. Could it be a rope or something hanging there?

He was using the toilet and didn't pay attention to the thing that suddenly appeared, assuming that some servant had just left it there carelessly.

Suddenly, the thing seemed to move.

He rubbed his eyes, thinking that he was just sleepy from waking up in the middle of the night and his eyes were blurry.

It wasn't until the thing waved its body in front of him again that he realized it was a living creature.

This startled him quite a bit. Remembering the things their third young lady kept, his heart skipped a beat.

He kept telling himself not to panic when he encountered a snake, to stop moving immediately, to take slow, deep breaths, and to avoid making direct eye contact with the snake.

He dared not move easily, remaining frozen in place, letting the cold wind blow against his body.

But the snake didn't seem to stop, and crawled over along the warm puddle of water.

Oh no, the snake is crawling towards him. Is it too late to run?

The servant was terrified; cold sweat dripped down his back, and his legs began to tremble uncontrollably.

The snake seemed to sense the presence of humans and suddenly changed direction, biting at the servant who was trying to escape.

"ah!!!"

A piercing scream ripped through the night sky, waking everyone who was sound asleep.

The maid of the Ye family, who was fast asleep, was still confused when she heard the scream. She thought she was still dreaming when she felt a cold, slippery touch coming from under the covers.

"Xiaochun, what are you doing? Why are you touching my feet? Your hands are so cold!" The maid looked at the other bed with dissatisfaction, but there was no sign of Xiaochun there, only an empty bed.

What was in her blanket?

She was so frightened that her scalp tingled. She quickly stood up from the bed, threw back the covers, and discovered that it was a snake!

"Snake! There's a snake!" she screamed in terror.

Her shout woke up all the servants in the house, and the whole place was in chaos. They then discovered that the floor was covered with snakes.

Mo Xiaoxin ran out of Ye Hualing's courtyard and fell into another maze. She was really going crazy. No matter how she ran, she couldn't get out of the Ye family.

Just as she was at her wit's end, she suddenly heard a rustling sound coming from the side.

Upon closer inspection, she noticed a long, thin figure crawling rapidly toward her.

What is that? Mo Xiaoxin was startled.

The thing was fast and swift, rushing towards Mo Xiaoxin. Only then did Mo Xiaoxin realize that it was a long black snake.

The black snake, seemingly sensing something, suddenly went berserk and lunged straight at Mo Xiaoxin. Mo Xiaoxin quickly dodged it.

Good heavens, why are there snakes everywhere in this house?

Mo Xiaoxin was so frightened that she ran away, forgetting that she still had the flute on her.

After running for a while, seeing that the snake behind her had disappeared, she collapsed to the ground, panting heavily.

A cold female voice came from above: "I've finally found you."

Ye Songlan's voice was icy cold, and this familiar feeling reminded her of Leng Huai. The two of them were truly a perfect match, both so cold and aloof.

"Not only did they steal my flute, but they also released all my snakes! Unforgivable!" She was studying medicine in her room that night when she heard screams coming from the servants' courtyard. Following the sound, she found the ground swarming with snakes. Realizing something was wrong, she tried to retrieve her flute to control the snakes, but discovered it was gone.

She quickly recalled the places she had been, and after much thought, she realized that she had only been to the secret room today.

When she arrived at the secret room, she was surprised to find that the door was open, the snake inside had completely disappeared, and Mo Xiaoxin, whom she had locked up, had long since escaped.

Fortunately, she didn't run far before she found the culprit.

As the two were talking, the black snake climbed up again.

Mo Xiaoxin quickly stood up, wanting to leave, but was grabbed by Ye Songlan.

Mo Xiaoxin frowned: "Let go!"

Ye Songlan noticed that the snake on the ground seemed a bit unstable, and said to Mo Xiaoxin, "Play the flute."

Before Mo Xiaoxin could catch her breath, she had no choice but to take out her flute and start playing. Upon hearing the flute, the snake finally quieted down and obediently stopped moving.

Seeing that the snake had calmed down, she took deep breaths of fresh air.

After the snake stopped hearing the whistle, it went berserk again and lunged towards Mo Xiaoxin.

Mo Xiaoxin dared not slack off and began playing the flute again.

She ran a distance away while playing her flute before daring to stop and ask Ye Songlan, "How could this happen? I didn't release your snake! Don't blame it on me!"

Ye Songlan snorted coldly: "You didn't close the door properly when you came out, so who else could it be?"

Mo Xiaoxin was startled, realizing that was indeed possible: "I didn't mean to! Tell me quickly how I can make amends? And what's with this snake? Why did it bite me?"

Ye Songlan remained calm and composed, replying, "Your fragrance will irritate the snake."

How could that be? She wouldn't have any fragrance on her.

Suddenly, Mo Xiaoxin had a flash of inspiration. She remembered that she had slept on Leng Huai's bed last night. Could it be caused by that fragrance?

As they were talking, the black snake darted over again. Mo Xiaoxin didn't dare to relax and continued playing the flute.

At that moment, she was like an emotionless wind instrument.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Ye Songlan sitting gracefully on a tree, looking in her direction and casually playing with her hair.

"Beautiful sister, please save me!" Mo Xiaoxin said, playing her flute as she dodged around the courtyard.

Ye Songlan found this scene quite amusing and felt a sense of satisfaction. A chilling smile appeared on her lips. "Didn't you steal my flute? Then you can play it all night long."

"Oh? I was just curious about your flute. I'll return it to you now." Mo Xiaoxin was on the verge of tears.

The servants screamed incessantly, and the entire Ye family was thrown into chaos.

A servant came to Ye Deqing's room to report. Upon hearing that there were snakes in the yard, Ye Deqing hurriedly came out to check. He frowned as he looked at the densely packed snakes crawling in the yard, his face looking very grim.

Fortunately, these snakes did not attack people actively; they were just large and flicked their tongues, which looked a bit scary.

"Why have all the snakes that Lan'er raised escaped? Go and wake Lan'er up!" Ye Deqing ordered his personal steward.

He gathered the servants together and set up a barrier so the snakes couldn't get in, giving the servants a chance to calm down.

The steward returned a moment later: "Master, the Third Miss is not in her room."

"That girl is a real handful."

His daughter, Ye Songlan, disliked both cosmetics and needlework, but loved raising snakes. From a young age, she was strong-willed, practicing magic like the boys. Later, knowing her family was in the potion business, she studied medicinal herbs day and night, researching poisons and antidotes, saying she wanted to bring glory to the Ye family. She raised snakes because their venom was extremely potent, aiding in her drug research.

He attended Leng Huai's wedding banquet a couple of days ago without her, and then he caused this commotion.

He still spoils his daughter too much.

Mo Xiaoxin heard the commotion in the courtyard. Such a commotion in the middle of the night at the Ye residence made her wonder why Ye Songlan hadn't gone to do anything about it.

Of course, she deserves some credit for this, but how can doing bad things feel so good?

While playing with her hair, Ye Songlan said nonchalantly, "What's the rush? They're just some snakes. These people are making such a fuss. They're really disgracing the Ye family. Besides, my snakes are very obedient. Unless something unexpected happens, they won't bite people on their own."

Seeing that Ye Songlan didn't seem to be in a hurry at all, Mo Xiaoxin couldn't help but feel a little strange. Shouldn't they be getting the snake back to the secret room as soon as possible? Why did it seem like she, the outsider, was the one in a hurry?

Night Blue seemed to be deliberately trying to delay.

Besides wanting her to be discovered, there might be another reason.

"Hey, are you starved for love?"

Mo Xiaoxin's sudden question surprised Ye Songlan: "What, lacking love?"

She lowered her eyes and pondered for a moment before continuing, "Perhaps so. My mother died a long time ago, and my father doesn't really care about me. He's only focused on making the Ye family famous and is busy with his eldest son all day long. The other day, I wanted him to take me to Leng Huai's wedding banquet, but he didn't even take me, only my older brother! He knows how I feel about Leng Huai, but he doesn't even have me as his daughter! If I don't make a move, he probably will think that I, his daughter, have disappeared from this world!"

As Mo Xiaoxin watched Ye Songlan grow angrier and her eyes grow colder, she couldn't help but feel a little scared. Had she run into a tiger?

However, she was right.

People who are not loved often try to make a scene to get attention.

Mo Xiaoxin tried to start a conversation by asking, "So, how's your relationship with your second brother?"

Ye Songlan scoffed, but her tone softened: "Second brother? We don't get along. Everyone says he's crazy and only knows how to eat, drink and have fun all day. He's just a pathetic wretch. We're both unloved people."

Ye Songlan seemed a little down, as if she had recalled some unpleasant memories.

Mo Xiaoxin felt a strange sense of sympathy for them. After all, in both her past and present lives, her parents and relatives had been very kind to her, and the word "love" was beautiful to her.

Sensing Mo Xiaoxin's sympathetic gaze, Ye Songlan's expression suddenly changed, turning fierce: "What kind of look is that? Are you pitying me?"

Mo Xiaoxin quickly shook her head: "No, no, I just wanted to ask if you smelled any demonic aura?"

She tentatively asked Ye Songlan to see if she understood.

Ye Songlan gave her a strange look: "Demon aura? Isn't that demon you? Why are you deliberately changing the subject?"

There was no attempt to hide anything on her face. Mo Xiaoxin chuckled awkwardly, "Isn't the atmosphere a bit awkward? I'm just trying to make conversation."

After waiting for a while, a man came over and said in a reproachful tone, "Lan'er, why have all your pet snakes escaped? The servants are terrified."

When Ye Songlan saw the person who had arrived, a mocking look appeared on her face: "Father, you haven't seen your daughter for a day, and you start blaming her as soon as you see her?"

Ye Deqing was somewhat troubled by this daughter: "How could this be?"

He saw Mo Xiaoxin playing the flute and asked in confusion, "Who is this?"

He recognized Mo Xiaoxin's face and then realized that she was the new Demon Queen who had helped Leng Huai fend off drinks at the wedding banquet the day before yesterday. Why was she in his mansion so late?

"Greetings, Demon Queen." Ye Deqing bowed respectfully to Mo Xiaoxin.

Mo Xiaoxin was somewhat surprised that Ye Deqing recognized her, after all, she looked quite disheveled. She quickly said, "Quickly have your daughter catch this annoying snake for me."

Seeing Mo Xiaoxin's predicament, Ye Deqing quickly called to his daughter, "Lan'er, quickly make that snake stop."

"Father, what are you afraid of? I captured her, and I can do whatever I want with her." Ye Songlan showed no fear of Ye Deqing, appearing fearless and invincible.

Ye Deqing: "This, this is the Demon Queen! If the Demon Lord finds out, he'll be furious. Our Ye family has worked so hard..."

“Father,” Ye Songlan interrupted Ye Deqing, “He wronged me first, and he owes me this. If he doesn’t give me an explanation, I will absolutely not agree. I have already kept Black Feather Spirit.”

She sneered: "However, so much time has passed, and Leng Huai doesn't seem to have any intention of coming. It seems that Leng Huai doesn't care about her either. Why don't we kill her? Leng Huai probably won't care."

Ye Songlan spoke casually, as if she were dealing with an unwanted toy, which made Mo Xiaoxin's heart pound.

Ye Deqing frowned. He knew his daughter harbored resentment towards him and was probably saying these things on purpose to provoke him. He was quite displeased, but with a group of servants waiting behind him, he maintained a calm demeanor: "My dear daughter, I know you like Leng Huai, but Leng Huai is already married. Saying these things is useless now. Lan'er, please release the Demon Queen quickly, otherwise our Ye family..."

Ye Songlan is good in every way, except for one stubborn temper that she was born with, just like her mother. He sighed.

Seeing that she had failed to provoke her father, Ye Songlan's anger intensified, and her eyes were filled with resentment as she looked at Mo Xiaoxin: "I will not release him. I brought him here. If Leng Huai asks, he can push all the blame onto me. What do you mean by the Ye family? I, Ye Songlan, can bear the responsibility all by myself!"

After saying that, she grabbed Mo Xiaoxin by the collar and flew up. She then snatched the flute from Mo Xiaoxin's hand and began to play.

The flute music was melodious yet eerie, and the snakes on the ground, which had been scurrying around, obediently crawled back towards the secret chamber.

Mo Xiaoxin was tragically locked in the secret room once again.
