Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Mengzheng noticed that Mo Xiaoxin was not happy. She glanced at Leng Huai, who was standing not far away with a cold expression, and thinking that it was not easy for everyone to do business, she explained to the fat man, "Fatty, you are not knowledgeable enough, so don't talk nonsense, lest you displease the Demon Queen."

The fat man pursed his lips: "Fine, fine, I won't say anything, okay?"

Ye Deqing still smiled broadly: "Your Majesty, there are indeed no living creatures in these boxes."

Upon hearing this, the fat man immediately straightened his back and said confidently, "See? I told you so!"

Meng Zheng remained silent. Given her status, it was best not to remind the fat man, otherwise offending the Demon Queen and the Demon Lord would be no laughing matter.

Mo Xiaoxin slowly raised her hand again and reached out to the top of the box, moving it inch by inch as if sensing something, and finally stopped just an inch above the box.

Even at such a short distance, the aura still shocked her.

It was a subtle, almost imperceptible force, like an invisible hand gently scratching at her palm.

It seems it harbors no hostility towards her.

A smile played on her lips as she ran her hand along the edge of the box, as if she were stroking a restless child.

After Mo Xiaoxin's actions, the aura finally calmed down.

She held her breath and focused intently on sensing the power within the box.

The fat man frowned and muttered, "It's just a big box, is it really that difficult?"

Unconvinced, he stepped forward to test it again, but before his hand could even touch the edge of the box, he was thrown away by a tremendous force and, by sheer coincidence, fell into the lake.

Everyone was stunned by this scene. If there were no living creatures inside, why would they be attacked?

The fat man swam ashore in a disheveled state, completely soaked.

His eyes were fixed on the box, filled with resentment, and he gritted his teeth, saying, "What on earth is this thing?"

Mo Xiaoxin stood up calmly, smiling amiably: "Patriarch Ye, there's a divine staff inside, isn't there?"

Ye Deqing's originally smiling face turned serious: "Yes, there is a demon god's staff inside."

A gasp of surprise erupted from the crowd.

Demon Staff!

It's the legendary demon god's staff used by an ancient demon god!

This demonic staff is a terrifying entity that has been lurking in the world since the beginning of time.

Legend has it that at the beginning of time, the Demon God was born in the abyss of endless darkness. Using his own demonic power as a source, the Demon God gathered the most evil and violent forces in the world to forge this unique divine staff, which has been lost for many years.

Legend has it that possessing this divine staff will allow one to dominate a region, but it requires someone with supreme magical power to use it; otherwise, the staff will devour the user, leaving them with no place to bury their body!

Everyone knew the power of the Demon God's Staff, and they instantly felt a deep respect for Mo Xiaoxin.

Mo Xiaoxin took out the Demon God Staff from the box. It was about the same height as a person, and the staff was entirely black with strange black and red patterns on it.

The moment Mo Xiaoxin took out the Demon God's Staff, everyone present felt a surge of magical energy. Then, their minds began to buzz uncontrollably, as if they were being gripped tightly by a cold demonic claw, controlling their consciousness and actions.

Mo Xiaoxin was also shaken by this immense magical power, and she said angrily, "Stop!"

Surprisingly, the magic staff only swayed slightly, like a child who had thrown a tantrum and been scolded by his mother, before settling down and remaining still.

Everyone was stunned by this scene.

Ye Deqing's expression was particularly unpleasant. He recalled how happy and excited he was when he accidentally obtained this Demon God Staff. However, the Demon God Staff did not listen to him at all and flew around randomly in the treasure vault. He was so angry that he stomped his feet and was even slapped on the buttocks twice.

Fortunately, no one noticed what was happening, otherwise he would have lost all face.

But how could this girl so easily make the magic staff obey her?

Could it be... that her magic is really that powerful?

So powerful that even the Demon God's Staff has to obey her?

But his scouts reported that this Demon Queen was just a little princess from the Southern Demon Realm, with no magic power whatsoever and very little demonic power, so she was not worth fearing at all.

But why...?

Mo Xiaoxin didn't miss the subtle changes in Ye Deqing's expression: "Patriarch Ye, are you regretting giving it to me?"

Ye Deqing composed himself and put on a smile again: "How could that be? Since the items are placed here, they are a sincere gift to everyone. The Demon Queen's magic is so profound that she guessed the treasure inside the box, so it naturally belongs to the Queen."

Mo Xiaoxin smiled calmly: "That's good then."

Leng Huai watched the whole thing from the sidelines. At first, he just wanted Mo Xiaoxin to distract Ye Deqing first, and then he would step in to resolve the matter.

He didn't want to reveal his strength here, lest these people plot against him, but he never expected that Mo Xiaoxin would actually be able to detect what was inside.

He looked at Mo Xiaoxin, who had a smile on her face, in a daze.

The Demon Staff sensed Leng Huai's gaze and emitted a powerful demonic aura.

Leng Huai was taken aback. This demonic energy... it felt so familiar... yet so strange...

It seems like I've seen it somewhere before, but I can't quite place it.

The magic staff was hostile towards him, and Leng Huai's gaze was not kind either.

Mo Xiaoxin was quite curious about the Demon God's Staff. Logically speaking, the person with the strongest magic power here was Leng Huai, and magical artifacts usually choose powerful masters. She wondered why this little thing was following her.

She glanced at the two guys.

Leng Huai and the Demon God Staff seemed to be dissatisfied with each other.

Leng Huai conjured a piece of cloth in his palm: "Wrap it up."

Mo Xiaoxin: "Why?"

Leng Huai: "This thing is too eye-catching. You don't want to get yourself killed, do you?"

Mo Xiaoxin immediately wrapped the Demon God Staff in cloth and slung it diagonally behind her.

The guests then spent the rest of their time enjoying the flowers and playing in the garden.

The Ye family mansion was indeed very large, and Mo Xiaoxin felt a sense of familiarity when she walked to a part of the garden.

She clearly remembered that this place used to be a dense forest, but today it was just a wall.

Leng Huai noticed Mo Xiaoxin's unusual behavior beside him: "What's wrong?"

Mo Xiaoxin shook her head. In order not to attract the attention of others, she did not directly tell them what happened that night.

It's still early; if we're going to take action, we should do it at night.

At dinner, Ye Deqing brought out his best skills and invited the three great chefs from the Demon Realm to prepare different dishes.

Mo Xiaoxin took a bite and pouted, "What kind of chef is this? It's not even half as good as what I make."

Suddenly, I remembered the hot pot, barbecue, stinky tofu, and duck neck from before...

Although none of them are very healthy, she just loves to eat them. Every time she passes by that food street on her way home from working overtime, she can't help but go in and have a few bites to satisfy her cravings and reward herself for her hard work.

Speaking of which, the dishes she's been making for Leng Huai these past few days have all been from the menu he provided. She hasn't had a chance to cook them herself. She'll have to make these dishes for Leng Huai another day to improve his palate, otherwise he's been eating the same things every day, which is just too ordinary.

Leng Huai couldn't help but find it amusing to hear Mo Xiaoxin praise him like that.

Mo Xiaoxin subconsciously thought that Leng Huai was mocking her, so she raised her chin slightly and said confidently, "If you don't believe me, you can try it."

Leng Huai picked up his chopsticks and, among the many dishes, chose the cold beef salad. He tasted it with elegant movements and said, "Compared to all of them, yours is still the best."

Mo Xiaoxin, who had finally received praise, was so proud of herself that she was practically strutting around like a whirlwind.

She happily assured me, "Don't worry, I still have a lot of delicious food that I haven't made for you yet, some of which you've never seen before, like hot pot and barbecue."

Leng Huai: "Are these delicacies unique to the demon realm?"

Mo Xiaoxin was taken aback: "I guess so."

Leng Huai noticed Mo Xiaoxin's pause, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes before disappearing.

Mo Xiaoxin and Leng Huai focused on their meal, while the other guests drank and chatted, creating a much more lively atmosphere than at noon.

Perhaps this is what the banquet should have been like, because their arrival made them feel quite awkward.

Mo Xiaoxin looked around and saw that Ye Deqing was surrounded by a crowd of guests, all of whom admired the treasures he had acquired and praised his generosity in giving them these rare treasures.

Ye Deqing initially declined, but after being praised to the skies, he became quite pleased with himself and started drinking. Once he started drinking, he couldn't stop, and as the flush on his face grew more pronounced, he even dragged his eldest son, Ye Pingwei, to drink with him.

Everyone then drank with Ye Pingwei, praising him for his good looks, ability, and status as the unique heir of the Ye family.

These words made Ye Deqing and Ye Pingwei feel very pleased.

Despite repeated refusals, Ye Pingwei eventually joined the drinking party.

Then they began to inquire about Ye Pingwei's marriage. The Ye family was powerful and wealthy; which family with a daughter wouldn't want to marry her off to this future heir? They all asked Ye Pingwei if he had a girl he liked.

Ye Pingwei was a worldly man, but he became somewhat uneasy when it came to such personal topics.

Everyone could tell from his appearance that he didn't seem to have a lover, so they started promoting their own daughters.

Ye Pingwei suddenly felt a headache coming on, but he couldn't leave the place.

Seeing that they were surrounded by a huge crowd while no one paid any attention to her, Ye Songlan felt a pang of sadness. She glanced at Leng Huai and Mo Xiaoxin, who were engrossed in their conversation, and her heart ached even more. She gave a self-deprecating laugh, picked up her wine glass, and left the hall.

Ye Hualing seemed indifferent to what these people were doing from beginning to end. He savored the wine in his hand, unconcerned that no one was paying attention to him.

He glanced in the direction of the lively chattering Mo Xiaoxin, and a smile appeared on his lips.

Based on his experience, he could tell that their marriage was not as perfect as it seemed on the surface, but more like a charade.

Does this mean he has a chance?

He glanced at Ye Songlan, who was swaying unsteadily as she stood up and was about to leave, and couldn't help but worry about her. Ye Hualing sighed and followed her.

While eating, Mo Xiaoxin observed the surroundings and noticed that some members of the Ye family were surrounded or had left their seats.

A sly glint appeared in his eyes; the opportunity had arrived.

"Hiss! My head hurts so much, I think I drank a bit too much. Could you help me out for some fresh air?" Mo Xiaoxin looked at Leng Huai with her big, watery eyes.

Quickly agree, quickly agree, quickly agree.

Mo Xiaoxin silently recited in her heart.

She wasn't sure if Leng Huai would kindly help her out, since she was always the one who followed his orders in the past.

She deliberately pretended to be in great pain, clutching her chest as if she was about to vomit.

She swore that this was absolutely her best performance yet.

Leng Huai glanced at her and did not refuse: "Okay."

The fact that she agreed so quickly was somewhat unexpected.

Mo Xiaoxin didn't think too much about it and quickly had Leng Huai help her leave the hall.

"Phew~ This place doesn't seem spacious enough. I'm still feeling unwell. Let's walk a little further!" After leaving the hall, Mo Xiaoxin dragged Leng Huai to the side of the garden.

He had been holding her hand, but now she was in control.

Seeing that no one was around, Mo Xiaoxin stopped pretending and started searching around.

Seeing Mo Xiaoxin's expression, he asked, "What are you looking for?"

“Last time I came to the Ye family, I discovered a strong demonic aura here. I followed this aura to a dense forest, where there was a cave with strange noises coming from inside. But last time I came, there was a barrier outside the cave and I couldn’t get in, so this time I wanted to bring you here to see what’s inside,” Mo Xiaoxin explained.
