Chapter 43

Chapter 43

The demon staff on Mo Xiaoxin's head materialized and bounced around in front of her, seemingly trying to show its presence to her.

Mo Xiaoxin patted her head. Oh right, how could she forget that she also had a fire-attribute magic staff?

Mo Xiaoxin was puzzled as to why both the Demon God Staff and the Shadow Mist could be fire-attributed. Could it be that the Demon Realm was actually dominated by fire in ancient times?

Leng Huai saw through the Demon God Staff's attempt to curry favor by protecting its master, and said coldly, "Of course you can protect her, but what will happen to her if she falls into danger alone and you are not by her side?"

Upon hearing this, the Demon Staff, which had been so smug just moments before, suddenly deflated.

Leng Huai's words make sense. The Demon God Staff can't protect her all the time. It's best to have the ability to do things on her own and not rely on anyone.

“Then you teach me. Don’t underestimate me. Although I wasn’t very talented when Ziyu taught me before, I’ve already awakened ice magic. I can’t be too bad, right?” Mo Xiaoxin was full of confidence. She was very different from before. Now she had at least grasped some of the tricks of magic.

Leng Huai: "Since Ziyu taught you the Netherworld Dark Flame before, let's start teaching you from here."

Leng Huai gently raised his finger, and a small cluster of dark blue flames emerged from his fingertip.

“This Netherworld Dark Flame needs to be drawn in by the magic power within your body. You don’t have any magic power right now, but you can try using demonic power,” Leng Huai said.

Mo Xiaoxin felt a little embarrassed as she recalled the scene when Ziyu taught her. All her bold words were forgotten. She had already lost face in front of Ziyu, and she couldn't afford to lose face in front of Leng Huai again.

She closed her eyes and tried to gather the spiritual energy in her body into her hands. Slowly, she felt her fingers getting slightly warm. When she opened her eyes, she saw that her fingers were emitting smoke, which was a bit choking.

"Cough cough cough!!" Mo Xiaoxin's eyes welled up with tears from the fumes.

She shook her hand awkwardly, moving her still-smoking hand further away from herself.

Leng Huai remained expressionless, as if he had known this would be the outcome.

"How could this happen!" Mo Xiaoxin's voice was hoarse from the smell, and her throat felt dry and itchy.

Leng Huai found it somewhat amusing and said, "It's already quite good that you have smoke. It means you've mastered half of it. The other half requires you to calm your mind and concentrate your spiritual power in your hands before you can unleash this Netherworld Dark Flame."

Encouraged by Leng Huai, Mo Xiaoxin excitedly said, "So you're saying I'm already pretty amazing?"

Leng Huai nodded: "It is indeed much faster than usual."

Mo Xiaoxin felt somewhat relieved. The 50 million was still worthwhile, at least it would shorten the time spent learning these spells.

Mo Xiaoxin continued to apply force to his hand, but after a long time, all that was produced was smoke.

Leng Huai's previously calm face finally showed signs of impatience.

Mo Xiaoxin was even more annoyed. She had clearly bought the talent, so why couldn't she learn the Netherworld Dark Flame after so long? Was the system lying to her again?

Leng Huai found a spot, sat down, closed his eyes, and began meditating.

With no one watching, Mo Xiaoxin felt much more at ease. Otherwise, Leng Huai's gaze was too stern, making her feel somewhat pressured.

Leng Huai opened his eyes again, looked up at the night sky, and suddenly blurted out, "It's still early. If you can't learn this Netherworld Dark Flame tonight, you won't be sleeping."

"What???" Mo Xiaoxin was choked by the smell of smoke again and coughed a few times.

After Leng Huai finished speaking, he closed his eyes and ignored Mo Xiaoxin.

Mo Xiaoxin muttered under her breath, "Fine, I'll learn. Do you think I'm afraid of you? If I can't even learn this simple trick, what else can I do?"

Mo Qiuxin, who had been missing for a long time, suddenly emerged from Mo Xiaoxin's body. She sat on the edge of a cliff, looking at the starry sky and watching Mo Xiaoxin clumsily learn the Netherworld Dark Flame.

"I didn't expect you to be so stupid," Mo Qiuxin commented casually.

Mo Xiaoxin rolled her eyes: "Big sister, are you insulting yourself? I'm using your brain!"

Mo Qiuxin retorted, "Please, although you're using my body, you're from another world and you even exchanged for talent skills. If you can't even learn this little thing, you're far inferior to me!"

Mo Xiaoxin turned her head and glanced at Leng Huai, who had his eyes closed, and whispered, "Where did you go before? I haven't seen you around."

"Me? I'll be monitoring you from inside your body."

"Really?" Mo Xiaoxin was somewhat skeptical. "Given your personality, how could you possibly be so quiet?"

Mo Qiuxin, having been caught out, stopped pretending: "Alright, alright, you found out. I can't leave my body all the time. My soul can't be separated from my body for too long, or I'll be captured."

Mo Xiaoxin asked with some curiosity, "How did you know that a system exists?"

When Mo Qiuxin brought this up, she herself felt it was strange.

After her accidental death, she became a wandering spirit on the roof of Leng Huai's study, her only range of movement being around the location of her death.

A moment later, she saw a woman dressed as a dancer enter the study and begin chatting with Leng Huai, even trying to seduce him. She was furious and immediately launched into a tirade against the woman, but the woman couldn't possibly see her.

A while later, the woman was ruthlessly killed by Leng Huai. She was shocked. She knew that Leng Huai was cold-blooded and ruthless, and killed people without hesitation, but she never expected that Leng Huai would kill a living person so mercilessly.

However, her fear only lasted for three seconds before she felt that Leng Huai had done the right thing. This woman dared to seduce her man; she really didn't want to live!

After spending a few days on the roof, she noticed something strange happening.

Every day, Leng Huai would come to the study and repeat the same thing: talk to the beautiful dancer and find out her purpose for coming.

At first, she thought it was a different woman coming every day, but she gradually realized something was wrong. The woman had the same face every day, and her figure and the way she walked were equally charming and alluring. It was impossible for anyone to imitate her so perfectly every time, right?

After discovering this problem, she would watch from the rooftop every day as Leng Huai and that woman repeatedly performed the same dance and inquiry routine.

At first, she felt terrified. It was scary enough that she had died and become a ghost, but she had to go through such bizarre things.

Leng Huai and the woman couldn't see her at all; she shouted loudly, but they ignored her completely.

But later she became numb. She even jumped off the roof to Leng Huai's side, sat on their bed, and watched their every move. After a while, she knew what they were going to say, what they were going to do, and what expressions they were going to make.

She went from being terrified and uneasy at the beginning to being indifferent later, and this only happened a few dozen times.

She looked at her own corpse on the roof and prayed to God that if she could be resurrected, she would cherish her life and never do anything reckless again.

Then the system suddenly appeared and asked her if she was willing to offer her body to them as the vessel for their mission.

She asked the system if it could revive her.

The system said no, but it could let her stay in this body; she could leave whenever she wanted.

She was initially unwilling, after all, who would willingly lend their body to someone else?

However, the system also told her that her family would die soon, and if she could provide a body, she might have a chance for revenge.

After much thought, she realized that being able to keep her body alive was a good thing. At least she could stay by Leng Huai's side and watch over him. How could this not be considered another way of living?

Immediately afterwards, Mo Xiaoxin entered her body. She had the memories of Mo Xiaoxin's world and knew how peaceful and stable the world was, but the pressure of survival still led to her sudden death.

After Mo Qiuxin's long explanation, Mo Xiaoxin finally understood: "But why doesn't the system let you participate in the mission so you can be resurrected?"

Mo Qiuxin sighed: "I asked it, and the system said that it is still in the experimental stage and the number of places is limited. You are the last person to participate in the experimental activity."

Mo Xiaoxin was somewhat surprised, not expecting that she would be so lucky to stumble upon the last opportunity to experience it.

But Mo Xiaoxin felt that something was wrong, yet she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

Mo Qiuxin urged, "Hurry up and practice your spells. With such a good opportunity, don't you want to finish quickly and then be resurrected back into your body?"

Mo Xiaoxin's voice was urgent: "Of course I want to! I wish I could have Leng Huai kill me right now. I've calculated that if there's a time freeze period, I can complete the mission in as little as a month."

"Hey? You promised to help me get revenge! You can't go back on your word!" Mo Qiuxin's reminder to Mo Xiaoxin didn't mean she wanted Mo Xiaoxin to abandon her request; she was a little anxious.

Mo Xiaoxin was worried that Leng Huai would hear their conversation, so she kept turning her head to look in Leng Huai's direction. She was relieved to see that Leng Huai was sitting there without any reaction.

Mo Xiaoxin smiled and said, "Look how anxious you are. I'm a person of my word. Since you voluntarily lent me this body, I certainly won't let this go unresolved."

Mo Qiuxin felt relieved after hearing Mo Xiaoxin's promise: "I can't force you to do anything, but I believe you're a good person! You'll definitely help me!"

Mo Xiaoxin waved her hand: "Don't flatter me or give me a 'good guy' card. Don't worry, I will do my best to help you fulfill this wish."

After saying that, Mo Xiaoxin began to practice her magic seriously, while Mo Qiuxin sat on a stone bench to the side watching without disturbing her.

Mo Xiaoxin was focused on practicing her magic, which bored Mo Qiuxin. She went to Leng Huai's side and looked at the object of her affection who was now separated from her by death.

She glanced at Leng Huai, who was meditating with his eyes closed, and then at Mo Xiaoxin, whose fingers were smoking. Suddenly, she remembered how Leng Huai had treated her before.

Her journey to the Demon Realm was smooth; the weather was sunny and there were no ambushes or dangers, just like her previous life, which was smooth and without any worries.

Upon arriving in the Demon Realm, she was surrounded by its inhabitants. She proclaimed herself a princess of the Southern Demon Realm and demanded to see the Demon Lord, but instead, she was imprisoned, mistaken for a spy sent by the Southern Demon Realm. Fortunately, Leng Huai discovered her and rescued her from the prison. She thought Leng Huai also had feelings for her, but to her surprise, he only told her to return as soon as possible and not to stay in the Demon Realm, and that he had no feelings for her whatsoever.

She was heartbroken, but how could Mo Qiuxin be the kind of person who would give up? She had traveled all this way to win over her husband; how could she leave before she got him?

She brazenly went to Leng Huai's side and chattered around him every day like the chirping of cicadas in summer. She thought that as long as she tried, Leng Huai would eventually be moved by her sincerity.

At first, Leng Huai ignored her and even ordered that Mo Xiaoxin was a hostage sent by the demon realm. Later, he imprisoned her in the courtyard and never came to see her, which gradually made her lose heart.

In her memory, Leng Huai had never smiled at her, nor had he ever spoken to her patiently.

But today, Leng Huai brought Mo Xiaoxin to the Illusionary Spirit Abyss and taught her magic, and even stayed by her side, as if they were cultivation partners.

Why has Leng Huai never treated her like this before, even though it's the same person?

Mo Qiu couldn't understand it.

Leng Huai left only his clone here, while his original body had already returned to the Demon Palace to handle urgent matters.

Inside the study.

Leng Huai sat at his desk listening to Zi Yu's deep voice report: "The border chief, Fa Tianshan, captured several minor demons from the Southern Demon Realm. Those minor demons claimed to be old acquaintances of the Demon Queen. Fa Tianshan said that if they didn't want to die, they had to see him."

Leng Huai recalled the images of several minor demons he had encountered on his journey through the Southern Demon Realm, wondering if they were the same people.

He snorted coldly: "That guy Fatianshan is always causing me trouble."

Ziyu: "My lord, those little demons' lives aren't worth it..."

Leng Huai glanced at Zi Yu and said coldly, "Don't try to guess what I mean. Did I say I was going to interfere with them?"

Ziyu cried out in alarm, "My lord, that's not what I meant!"

Fatianshan's motives were impure; she simply felt that her master didn't need to get involved in this mess for the sake of a minor demon from the Southern Demon Realm.

However, judging from the Lord's words, it seems that he will not go either.

Ziyu felt a little relieved. For some reason, she just didn't like this Demon Queen from the Southern Demon Realm. She felt that she was not worthy of the Lord. She had also heard about what happened in the Southern Demon Realm, and felt even more that Mo Xiaoxin was a burden to the Lord and had a lot of messy affairs. And now, the messy affairs had come knocking.

Leng Huai: "Where is he now?"

Ziyu was taken aback: "What?"

Leng Huai frowned: "Don't you understand what I'm saying? Where is Fatian Mountain?"

Ziyu's face stiffened, and her lips turned pale: "He's waiting outside the palace."

Leng Huai left without saying another word.

Ziyu was left alone in the room, her hands unconsciously clenching into fists.

The Lord rarely spoke to her so coldly, even with a hint of anger. The Lord had gone to see Fatian Mountain because of that woman.

Fatianshan had always wanted to challenge Leng Huai to a duel, and in order to see Leng Huai, he did not hesitate to cause trouble everywhere on the border. However, Leng Huai simply asked Qiao Yun to handle it and never took the matter to heart.

Her master, who used to be indifferent to everything and everyone, seemed to have changed at some point.
