Chapter 19 Choice
When they arrived at his father-in-law's house, Gu Wan put on an apologetic smile and called "Dad" with Yin'er. He also gave Liu Yang a few copper coins. Old Man Liu didn't say anything. His son-in-law had humbled himself. It was the New Year, and he didn't want to blame the child anymore.
After the meal, Gu Wan thought for a while and told Old Man Liu about her plan. She would definitely go back to Jiuqu County after the New Year, and the restaurant would still need her supervision in the future. Besides, she had found a job in the academy. It didn't matter if she was alone before, but now, she wanted to give her little wife a stable and worry-free life.
The family looked at each other. Old Man Liu took a few puffs of his pipe and finally decided, "Let's listen to my son-in-law. After the New Year, let Yang'er go to Chong'an Academy to study. He will only come back two days a week, so I can worry less about my old bones. As for Yin'er, you two can discuss yourselves."
In the evening, after lunch, the couple returned home but they were no longer in the mood they had when they came. Gu Wan looked at his wife who had ignored him for a long time, took two steps forward and held her hand, "Yin'er, I must go back to this county town, don't be angry, I have bought a house next to the academy, you come with me."
"You didn't want to come back from the beginning, right?" Liu Yiner questioned Gu Wan with red eyes. Since he had already planned to leave, why did he come back to provoke her?
"Yin'er, I thought you wouldn't accept it then, so, so..." Gu Wan stammered and couldn't speak. She did have the idea of not coming back, but she was not clear about her own feelings at that time. Now, although the two of them had never said it out loud, they both knew their feelings for each other, so naturally they were in a completely different situation.
"Then why are you back now? What should I call you, Ah Wan? Husband? Or Sister Gu?"
Gu Wan frowned. It seemed that some things were better said out loud. Although everyone was having a reunion dinner at home that night, there were still pedestrians passing by on the road. She pulled up the person who was still awkward and angry, hurried back home, closed the courtyard door, returned to the bedroom, lit the light and spoke, "Yin'er, I was confused before, but now I have made up my mind. In this life, Gu Wan only wants to grow old with you, so, are you willing?"
"Aren't you leaving? What's the point of me being willing?" Liu Yiner was moved by her confession, but she was still stubborn. Wouldn't it be good for them to live here for the rest of their lives? She didn't like the busy county town, and she didn't know how to deal with people. Besides, there were many ladies from wealthy families in that county town. Even if there was nothing wrong, there were still handsome young men. In her heart, because of the gap in their status and knowledge, Gu Wan could not give her enough sense of security.
"Silly Yin'er, if I leave, I'll take you with me. If you really don't want to, I'll stay here with you, okay? Don't be angry," said Gu Wan, hugging her in his arms and coaxing her carefully. I don't know what Yin'er is worried about, it seems that we need to think about it in the long run.
The days after the New Year were unexpectedly peaceful and harmonious. Gu Wan and Liu Yin'er seemed to have lost their memories and never mentioned what happened on New Year's Eve again.
It was as if they had returned to their first married state, taking care of each other and living their life slowly and steadily. Of course, some things were inevitably sprouting quietly.
For example, when the two of them went to visit their neighbors together, Gu Wan would always mention her future plans, and implicitly hint that she wanted to return to the academy, but her wife looked as if nothing had happened, as if she didn't understand what she meant. Or to put it another way, Liu Yin'er didn't hear it at all. This was a blatant disregard.
However, no matter what kind of drama Gu Wan was playing out in her heart, she didn't dare to do anything blatantly. Staying was just a temporary solution. She had to take the academy back, not to mention that as an adult, she couldn't treat her work as a joke.
Even now, many people have followed suit in building vegetable greenhouses. If she, who doesn't know the difference between grains, really stays in Liujia Village to farm, she will probably starve to death sooner or later. Although she yearns for a life of working from sunrise to sunset, yearning is one thing, and actually living the life is another. She believes that she does not have the talent to develop agriculture.
The days passed slowly, and what was meant to come would eventually come. After the Lantern Festival, Gu Wan watched the children going to school in groups of three or two, and finally stopped strolling and returned home.
After dinner that day, the couple lay in bed as usual, but the atmosphere was inexplicably tense. Gu Wan swallowed and said softly, "Yin'er, Liu Yang went to school today, right?"
The person beside the pillow was silent. Gu Wan turned around and hugged the person into his arms, and took two deep breaths secretly. "Yin'er, I, I, I, I will hold you to sleep."
Gu Wan couldn't help but sigh in her heart, wondering why she was so useless. Well, forget it. Although she was not a man, she knew that she had to make her wife happy. If the man in her arms wanted her to stay, then she would compromise.
Life is but one, and it's rare to meet someone you want to love, so why bother with how to live? She will work hard in the future and strive to be a good farmer. Although she persuaded herself like this, a wail sounded in her heart, "Wow, my days of facing the loess and back to the sky~~"
When he woke up the next day, Gu Wan, who had already put his mind to things, was about to go inspect the farmland, but was stopped by his wife. Seeing Liu Yang dragging large and small bags, and the carriage hired by someone at the door, a string of expressions flew across Gu Wan's face. In today's words, he looked confused.
"Husband, I know you won't be happy if you stay. Thank you for taking care of Yang'er. I...please leave quickly. I'll wait for you at home." Before she could finish her words, Liu Yin'er could no longer control her emotions. Afraid of making a fool of herself in front of outsiders, she hurriedly turned around and ran back to her room.
Seeing this, Gu Wan hurried into the house without even bothering to greet the coachman or her father-in-law who had brought Liu Yang over. She walked to the bed and helped the sobbing girl up. "Yin'er, I haven't been unhappy these days. As long as I'm with you, I'm happy wherever I am. Silly girl, I won't leave. I won't go. I'll stay here. Let's stay together forever, okay?"
Liu Yiner looked at Gu Wan with tears in her eyes, and said with all her strength, "Ah Wan, go ahead. You can come back two days a week. I'll be waiting for you at home. Really, I also hope that my husband is a teacher at the county's big academy."
Gu Wan looked at her. What was there that he didn't understand? He had clearly said that he would make her happy, but he always made this delicate girl cry. She was really an unqualified husband. Well, he would think of a way to take Yin'er over in the future.
Gu Wan looked back at the person who was watching her go farther and farther away. Suddenly, she felt so reluctant to leave. She had the urge to jump out of the car. She chuckled to herself at her childish thoughts. After the car turned the corner, she let go of the curtain in her hand and closed her eyes to rest.
Liu Yiner watched the carriage turn the corner and stood at the intersection for a while before leaving. In fact, she knew what Gu Wan was thinking these days. Although she was touched by her forbearance and companionship, she could not just think about her own selfishness.
After all, her husband, no, Awan is such an outstanding person, how could he deal with the land all day long in this remote place? Besides, she couldn't bear it, she couldn't bear to see her Awan unhappy.
Although Ah Wan and she had expressed their feelings to each other, they were not real husband and wife after all, and her body was still... Thinking of this, Liu Yiner blushed, but if Ah Wan could always be with her, then even if it was like this for the rest of her life, she would be willing to do so.
Poor Gu Wan didn't know that his wife was struggling with this issue, otherwise she would have told that silly girl that it was possible between women. It was a pity that she couldn't guess what her wife was thinking, and Liu Yin'er had been without a mother since childhood, so she knew very little about this aspect. It was just fate.
Although he missed the first day of reporting, fortunately the dean of Chong'an Academy was an extremely generous person. He admired Gu Wan's knowledge and liked the temperament of this young teacher. Only when he was calm and composed and not frivolous or impetuous could he teach and educate people.
Gu Wan also lived like a fish in water in the academy. She arranged Liu Yang in the academy. Like other students, boys still needed training, and she didn't want to make any special arrangements for them.
She was quite content with her ordinary life. She had a few classes every day, and spent the rest of her time thinking about some dishes from her past life and practicing her cooking skills. She could also help her wife with some of the housework when she returned home. She had also made a like-minded friend at the academy recently.
No, they are going back to Liujia Village tomorrow. Gu Wan cooked a few dishes himself. In order to test his results, he invited the teacher he just met to have a drink together.
Gu Wan was delighted to meet Zhao Yunzhong as a friend. In those ancient times when people's customs were not civilized and their thinking was backward, it was so rare to meet someone who had similar values and words to him.
