Chapter 39 Obsession

Chapter 39 Obsession

In the suburbs of Beijing, a horse-drawn carriage was moving slowly. Although it was only autumn, the air was still chilly. I didn't know why the people in the carriage kept sticking their heads out. The window was lifted up again, revealing Liu Yin'er looking back.

In just a short while, her face showed loss, bitterness, and relief. After an unknown amount of time, the people in the carriage seemed to have forgotten to look back as they drove away.

In winter, after all the properties of the general's mansion were sold, Gu Wan respected Aunt Zhou's wish to become a nun and personally sent her to Qingshi Temple. When leaving, Zhou Wan's satisfied smile and Master Congxin's lofty eyes made Gu Wan look dazed.

On the official road out of Beijing, Gu Wan sat quietly in a carriage, holding a piece of paper that had obviously been torn and glued together. The carriage moved slowly forward, bypassing one town after another. A few days' journey took her two months. It was New Year's Day, and Gu Wan stood in front of the Gu Mansion in Jiuqu County. The house, which had been deserted for months, seemed a little desolate, just like her current state of mind.

At night, in the hall of the Hu Mansion, Li Yuan looked at Gu Wan, who was much quieter than usual, and could only sigh that things in the world are unpredictable. After asking a few questions about her mother, she and Hu Ziyan didn't know what to say to comfort her. After all, it was not easy for outsiders to interfere in matters of the heart.

"Come, have a drink. I'll stay with you until we're drunk tonight." After saying this, Li Yuan carefully glanced at his wife. Seeing that Hu Ziyan had no objection, he filled their glasses with wine with confidence.

Gu Wan smiled bitterly when he heard this, and the past inevitably lingered in his mind again. "No need. I haven't drunk alcohol for a long time."

Li Yuan put down his wine glass awkwardly and turned to his wife helplessly for help.

This time, Hu Ziyan held up her chin with a sad face, indicating that she was powerless. Love was the most hurtful word, and outsiders like them could not participate too much. However, she would not stand idly by, and only hoped that Gu Wan would be more clever by then.

The next day at noon, Li Yuan took great pains to persuade Gu Wan to go to Hu's Restaurant. As soon as they sat down, the door was opened from the outside. Gu Wan looked up and saw who was coming. Before she could say anything, the person who pushed the door turned and left. She sat there blankly, not knowing what to do.

Liu Yiner was invited to the Hu's Restaurant in the county town. She opened the door of the guest room as instructed by Hu Ziyan, but saw the person she couldn't face calmly. Like a cowardly deserter, she turned around and left in a hurry before the person could react.

Along the way, Liu Yiner couldn't help looking back like a fool, and couldn't stop laughing at herself. What was she expecting? What could she do after coming here? She went to visit her elderly father first, and then turned around and went back home. But when she turned the corner, she saw someone standing in front of the house. The lonely back made her sad. She stopped for a while, sighed, and walked over.

At this time, Hu Ziyan hurried in from outside, looking at Gu Wan with a look of disappointment, "Why are you still standing there? Go and chase her."

Gu Wan stood up as if she had suddenly realized something. The person she was looking for was no longer outside the restaurant. She paced back and forth on the spot. After a moment, she raised her head with a firmness in her eyes, and called the driver to go straight to Liujia Village.

In the carriage, Gu Wan sat by the window. Occasionally, a cold breeze blew in through the curtains, adding a touch of clarity to her thoughts. Yin'er, if I no longer let you worry about me, if I give you a sense of security, then do I still have a chance?

Finally, he arrived at the gate of the courtyard he had been longing for, but Gu Wan suddenly didn't dare to knock on the door. The inconspicuous brick color made it look like an ordinary farmer's yard, but at this moment it seemed particularly precious. If he had not left, would he have avoided all these troubles?

"Why are you here? What's the bother?" A voice suddenly came from behind. Gu Wan turned around slowly and stared at the person a few steps away. He couldn't form a complete sentence.

The person in front of the courtyard gate turned around without saying a word. Liu Yin'er avoided the eager gaze, bit her lip secretly and said nothing more. She just calmly opened the door and went back to her room, carefully using her ears to catch the footsteps following her.

Seeing that Liu Yin'er ignored him, Gu Wan followed her into the yard. On the way, he even turned back and locked the gate before hurriedly following her, fearing that he would be turned away if he walked too slowly.

In the room, Liu Yin'er sat at the table, looking at the person who came in leisurely. "If you have anything to say, please tell me quickly. Let's go back quickly while it's still early."

After a long while, the silence made Liu Yiner think it was her own hallucination. The person in front of her was still silent. She suddenly felt a little depressed. "What are you doing? If you have something to say, say it quickly. If you don't have anything to say, please go back and don't stand here."

"If I wait until it gets dark before telling you, then I don't have to leave today." Gu Wan looked at the people sitting there, found a chair to sit down, and spoke in a deep voice.

Liu Yiner raised her eyebrows in amusement and looked at the man who was as serious as usual. "I didn't know you could do such a shameless thing. Could it be that you have been with Mr. Zhao for so long that you have learned his ways?"

Gu Wan suddenly felt like she was stabbed in the heart. She took a long time to argue, "It's different. He and I are different. Besides, the relationship between you and me is also different from that between him and me."

"Oh? I wonder what's the difference?" Liu Yiner asked deliberately in a slightly sharp tone.

Gu Wan was silent. What was different? Of course, everything was different. She was not good at speaking and seemed even more clumsy at this moment. She just wanted to make peace, but why did it feel so difficult? What should she do?

Seeing that Gu Wan didn't say anything, Liu Yin'er didn't rush to ask. She just watched quietly and didn't disturb the person who was thinking. She looked at the sky outside the door, and then looked at Gu Wan who was still in a daze with his head down. Did this person really intend to stay here until the sun sets? Then should she agree? How should their relationship continue?

I have to say that looking at the person sitting opposite her, Liu Yiner felt much more at ease. After all, this was their home, and it was only home when the two of them were together. However, the person in front of her was too stubborn. If it happened once, there was no guarantee that there wouldn't be a second time.

Gu Wan lowered her head and saw the darkening sky from the corner of her eye. The person opposite her did not ask her to leave. The corners of her mouth raised a rare slight arc of success, but her tone was still reluctant.

The author has something to say:

The story ends here, but I don’t know how to write it.

I wanted to write a long story, but I have zero experience, zero combat power, zero writing skills, and so on. I am stuck~
