Chapter 9: Chance Encounter
Over there, Old Man Liu was worried, but here, Gu Wan was walking slowly. He had walked this path many times on weekdays, and only now was he carefully looking at the houses and trees along the way. Seeing his young wife's anxious expression and hesitant look, Gu Wan smiled knowingly and straightened his face. "Let's walk faster, I'm afraid we will miss lunch later." After that, he walked faster.
Liu Yiner was anxious along the way, but she was too embarrassed to urge her husband. Fortunately, this man still remembered to hurry for lunch, so he didn't say anything and just quickened his pace.
When they arrived at the door of their house, Liu Yiner slowed down her pace. Seeing that she looked strange, Gu Wan hurried forward and knocked on the door.
Old Man Liu had been waiting for a long time. When he saw his daughter and son-in-law coming in with bags, he couldn't help but feel his eyes turn red despite his age. He quickly asked them to sit down and eat, and was busy blaming them for spending money. However, he was happy in his heart. Seeing that his son-in-law still cared about his daughter, his heart finally settled down.
"My wife, don't cry. Your father-in-law will think I'm bullying you." Seeing that his little wife was still sobbing, Gu Wan couldn't help but persuade her. Liu Yiner glared at her angrily, but stopped crying.
After dinner, the woman said she was testing her younger brother's homework and went out together. Knowing that her father was worried about her, she told him about her life in the past two days. It was all about the man's thoughtfulness and care, which made her father feel relieved.
In the evening, when she saw her husband and brother carrying some branches and wood back, Liu Yin'er realized that the two had gone up the mountain to chop firewood. Dinner was prepared early, and she told her father that her husband had cut the cloth for the family to make clothes today. She talked to him for a long time before leaving reluctantly.
On the way back, Gu Wan saw that she looked depressed, and knew that his little wife was still missing her parents' home. He couldn't help but comfort her, "We live so close to my father-in-law, come back often when you have time." After that, he took her hand and strode forward.
"Husband~Awan~" Liu Yiner felt so warm in her heart that she didn't know what to say, so she just called her name softly.
"Silly girl, are you so moved that you want to marry me?" Gu Wan was in a good mood and couldn't help teasing her. Seeing that Liu Yin'er didn't say anything, she just lowered her head and walked home quickly, if he hadn't used force on his hands, he would have been pushed away by her in shame and anger.
The next day after breakfast, Liu Yiner was cutting cloth in front of the window. Looking up, she could see the small open space outside the window and Gu Wan busy in and out of the small shed. Although she couldn't understand what was going on, she was still happy for her husband working so hard at the moment. It was as if for the first time in more than ten years, she had sweet expectations for the future.
This went on for several days, yet she didn't feel the time was slowing down. She really wanted this cycle to continue indefinitely. Liu Yin'er knew she was greedy, but she really didn't want to change. She didn't need her husband to make a lot of money. As long as the two of them were together all the time, it would be enough. She was thanking God for his kindness, but after a few days, such a warm day was broken. The culprit who broke it was still planning, unaware that his little wife only wanted to be with her.
"Yin'er, come with me!" Gu Wan had just been to the vegetable shed that morning, and he shouted as he walked in. He quickly walked to the table, took his wife's hand, and walked into the yard.
"Awan~" Liu Yin'er's eyes were full of disbelief. In the freezing winter when everything was dormant, she actually saw a field of lush green vegetable seedlings in her own yard.
At noon, Gu Wan was still happy about her successful planting. Thinking of his wife's expression in the morning, she thought that maybe this was also a way to make money. First of all, she already had a clue about how to turn raw materials into products. The key was how to solve the two problems of industrial chain and consumers. Maybe she could try to buy some land, and then consider finding a few honest and capable people to help. The last point was the restaurant in the town. No, Liutai Town was too small, with very few restaurants and merchants, and the consumption level was naturally low. It seemed that she had to go to a distant town to do some market research.
I just don't know if this method will work in this ancient time. The most important thing is that she doesn't have much money. The initial investment is okay, but what if she can't find a suitable buyer and can't sell it? Gu Wan looked at his young wife making clothes for him in front of the window and sighed. A real man can bend and stretch, so let's give it a try. Thinking of this, he couldn't help but smile bitterly. She was a modern young woman who had been dressed as a man for eighteen years. Sometimes she even forgot that she was a woman, especially after marrying Liu Yin'er.
Or perhaps it could be said that ever since she had her own little wife by her side, she felt that she had an extra responsibility on her shoulders and was becoming more and more accustomed to the role of "husband".
Gu Wan went to the village chief in the afternoon and told him that he was going to buy some land in the next few days. The village chief saw that Brother Gu had started to plan for the future after getting married, and he felt relieved for the girl from the Liu family. It seemed that this young man was trustworthy.
That night, Gu Wan told Liu Yin'er about his plan. His wife didn't express any opinions, only saying that she believed her husband could do it well. Gu Wan could also see that the person in his arms seemed to have no interest in these things, so he didn't say much.
Liu Yiner knew that her husband was a capable man. Seeing that Gu Wan often brought people from the village to visit their small vegetable shed in the yard, personally taught them how to grow vegetables, and promised to buy them at a high price in the future, she felt uncomfortable.
The woman in the courtyard was still patiently explaining something to a few villagers, and she remembered how Sister Li had teased her yesterday about the time she should give birth to a child for Ah Wan. Liu Yin'er's mother had passed away early, and she only vaguely understood the conversations about marriage between the sisters she knew well. Perhaps because she had been teased so much by those women yesterday, she couldn't help but overthink things.
In fact, she had always known that, although they slept in each other's arms every night, Ah Wan had not consummated their marriage. But it was impossible for a girl like her to take the initiative in such matters. She didn't know what the man was thinking when he treated her so well.
For more than a month, Gu Wan devoted himself to the glorious work. Fortunately, his efforts were not in vain. Most of the vegetables grew well, and some farmers couldn't wait to pick them and taste them.
This young master used to be reliable, so most families in Liujia Village cleared out a small plot of land and set up one or two small vegetable sheds, waiting for Brother Gu to come and buy the crops in a few days. Their calculations were clear: each family planted only a small amount, so even if Gu Wan broke his promise, their families wouldn't lose much, and they should still make a profit at the market this season.
Gu Wan rose early today. As the saying goes, once the arrow is shot, there's no turning back. To save on investment costs, she'd persuaded many farmers to grow vegetables, a task now reaching a crucial stage. With the New Year approaching, every household had begun preparing for the holidays. A trip to the county town was a must.
Jiuqu County is connected by nine long rivers that surround and connect with each other, so the waterways are very developed, hence the name: Jiuqu County.
While boating on the river, Gu Wan couldn't help but stretch out her arms to splash the clear water a few times, which made her forget the chill for a moment. It's a pity that the lakes in modern Jiangnan water towns are often shallow and the rivers narrow. Occasional pleasant scenery, like West Lake, which always looks beautiful with light or heavy makeup, lacks this natural and casual feeling. In fact, not only do people like to be free and unrestrained, but beautiful scenery should also be like this.
Thinking of the scenic spots in his previous life that were full of man-made carvings, Gu Wan felt sad. He composed himself a little and walked towards the nearest restaurant.
"Brother Li," someone suddenly called out in surprise. Gu Wan subconsciously turned his head to look, with a wry smile on his lips, and could only sigh that we meet each other everywhere in life!
The man walking towards them was wearing a moon-white long gown, with a delicate face, but it looked a little feminine on a man. Without time to doubt, the man gestured for him to go upstairs, and Gu Wan had no choice but to follow him. After entering the private room, they both sat down. The man opposite finally relaxed his mind and called out to Gu Wan, "Husband, why are you here?"
