Liang Meng smiled carefully and reached into his sleeve to take out some silver.
"Please accept these."
Liang Meng said as he stuffed the silver into the woman's hand. The woman took a step back in panic, her hands shaking violently, and did not take the silver.
"Sir, there is no need to do this. It is not necessary... it is not necessary."
The kindhearted woman blushed at Liang Meng's behavior and stammered as she tried to refuse.
"Take it. Otherwise I'll feel uneasy."
The one who is in a dilemma will refuse to accept it, while the one who is full of apologies will definitely give it away.
After a few rounds, the woman finally couldn't resist Liang Meng. When Liang Meng stuffed the silver and money into her hands again, she no longer refused.
But his rough, dark face was still badly burned, and his hands, holding the silver, were twisting and turning helplessly.
"Excuse me, ma'am, will the city gate be open tonight?"
Liang Mengyao pointed at the city gate.
"Sir, are you going into the city?"
Seeing Liang Meng nod, the woman sighed and shook her head in distress for Liang Meng.
"The city gates have been closed for a long time. If you want to enter the city, you can only wait until tomorrow."
Liang Meng cursed in his heart, looked up at the dark sky dotted with a few stars, and sighed softly.
Damn, it looks like I really have to stay in this wilderness.
"Does the young master have a place to stay?"
Perhaps it was because of the silver and money Liang Meng had just stuffed into her pocket, the woman was asking around, thinking that even a little more help would be helpful.
Otherwise I won’t feel at ease holding this money.
When the woman asked, Liang Meng smiled bitterly and shook his head.
"If you don't mind, you can stay at my house for one night and go into the city tomorrow."
There are two choices before you: one is to be in the wilderness with the ground as your mat and the sky as your blanket, and the other is to be in a comfortable bed with soft bedding.
In this case, any fool would choose the latter.
Our hall master was certainly not a fool. He only pretended to be reserved and hesitated for 0.01 seconds before nodding in agreement.
The woman also looked relieved.
That’s great. Now I can spend the money with peace of mind.
The woman's home was not far outside the city wall. It was a small courtyard with a few earthen houses with uneven walls.
The light in the room was on at this time.
"It's my old man."
The woman smiled and explained to Liang Meng. After that, she turned around and carefully closed the courtyard door.
"Old man, I'm back."
While still in the yard, the woman shouted loudly, her voice loud and cheerful.
Liang Meng stood behind the woman, casually glancing around the yard.
The dim candlelight in the house was not enough to see the situation in the yard clearly, and Liang Meng couldn't help but look at the very tall tree a few more times.
"Why are you so late today? I was just about to go look for you. Who... is this?"
A hunchbacked old man walked out of the house and asked Liang Meng in a simple and honest voice with joy when he saw him.
"This young man wants to enter the city, but the gates are closed. Please stay at our house tonight."
As the woman spoke, she invited Liang Meng into the house. The old man took the things in the woman's hand and followed her into the house.
The room was small, with a low roof. Only a single candle was burning, and every corner looked dim.
Food had already been laid out on Fang Zheng's table: two bowls of mixed-grain rice and two small plates of vegetables.
The old man was a simple, dull man, standing awkwardly by the door, not knowing where to put his hands and feet. It was the woman who relieved his discomfort.
He smiled heartily and told the old man to prepare another bowl of rice.
The old man went out immediately after receiving the order.
"Don't mind me, sir. My old man is a bit of a fool."
"How could that be? I should thank my elder sister for taking me in, otherwise I would have to sleep in the wild tonight."
The old man came back quickly, and the woman asked Liang Meng to sit down and eat.
Liang Meng didn't mind the roughness of the food, nor did she refuse it awkwardly. She just sat down and started eating.
During the meal, the old man just focused on eating without saying a word.
Fortunately, the woman was talkative and asked Liang Meng what he was doing in the city.
Liang Meng did not hide anything and told him directly that he was going to find the Lord of Tomb City.
"Young Master, are you going to the Tomb Mansion?"
The woman stopped eating and confirmed.
Liang Meng chewed the not-so-delicious vegetables and nodded at the woman.
"Young Master, do you know the city lord?"
"I don't know him."
Liang Meng swallowed his food and answered the woman's question before taking the next bite.
"Then Young Master is looking for the City Lord..."
"Something."
Liang Meng felt that the woman asked too many questions, so his tone was not as gentle as before.
The woman saw Liang Meng's impatience and smiled awkwardly.
"Don't be offended, sir. I'm an old man working for the city lord, so I asked a few questions."
When Liang Meng heard such a coincidence, he looked up at the old man, but saw only a flat head with some white hair.
She was just trying to find a reason to enter the tomb when the opportunity came.
"I wonder if Big Brother can take me with him tomorrow."
The old man was suddenly called, and he looked up from the bowl blankly, glanced at Liang Meng, then turned to look at the woman, and belatedly said "hmm".
"Oh, you fool."
The woman smiled and raised her hand to gently pat the old man's arm, then turned to look at Liang Meng and said.
"That's not difficult. You can go with me tomorrow. But the tomb has a lot of rules, so please don't wander around when you get there."
"Thank you, big sister."
Automatically ignoring the second half of the sentence, Liang Meng put down his bowl and chopsticks, clenched his fists and thanked the woman, then thanked the old man.
The old man was so confused that he couldn't even hold the chopsticks. He nodded and agreed vaguely.
