Chapter 23 The Night Comes (Page 1/2)
The night wind blows, and there is peace outside the cave. The burning bonfire flickers in the breeze, and the suppressed panting and the sound of flesh colliding are silently integrated into the wind.
Mrs. Wendy's face is flushed, her eyes are blurred, and she is biting her long hair in her mouth. Her two white arms are leaning on the tree trunk. She can only suppress the urge to shout out by shaking her body.
Behind her, the demon hunter Frank is pinching the woman's neck with one hand and lifting her thigh with the other hand. His eyes are slightly narrowed. As his muscles move, a lot of hot air comes out of his mouth, and a large white mist is spread in the air.
At this time, the night is deep, and in the wilderness, the two people are fighting fiercely, accompanied by the chirping of insects and frogs. Looking at the white jade-like, delicate woman in his arms, a different kind of interest surges into Frank's heart.
He leaned over and kissed Wendy's back, biting her teeth on her back, and then asked softly:
"Mrs. Wendy, what kind of person is your husband?"
"I've never heard you mention him."
Hearing this question, Mrs. Wendy's face turned even redder, and she shook her head in shame and anger, spitting out the hair in her mouth, and said in a stuttering voice:
"Mr. Frank, please don't ask such questions at this time."
"My husband is a good man, he died to protect his family."
"It was because of his bravery that Vanessa and I were able to escape from the swords of the Nilfgaardians."
"Although I feel a little sorry for him now, I will never forget my husband and will raise Vanessa well."
Hearing Mrs. Wendy's somewhat sad answer, Frank also realized that he was a little abrupt.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have mentioned your husband."
He didn't ask other questions, but worked harder, trying to use joy to dispel the sadness in Wendy's heart.
With the last cry of the lady who couldn't help crying, the fierce battle that lasted for more than half an hour finally came to an end.
Ten minutes later, the two people who had dressed again, wrapped in a blanket, sat close to each other, and chatted about some past events in a warm atmosphere.
Frank heard a lot of common sense about the Middle Ages from the lady's conversation, which he didn't know before.
For example, children's education problems, daily diet problems, and ordinary people's work problems.
Compared with the monotonous pictures and images in memory, the descriptions heard from people's mouths are more appropriate and vivid.
Wendy was born in a small merchant family. Her parents loved her very much and hired private teachers to teach her all kinds of knowledge since she was a child.
Later, when Wendy grew up, she inherited her parents' clothing store and became a well-known beautiful girl in the local area with many suitors.
Her husband is the second son of a knight family in the town. He is young and promising, has strong martial arts skills, and looks handsome. He is the captain of the town's militia.
The two fell in love at first sight. After getting married, they were very loving and soon had a daughter, Vanessa.
As a beautiful woman, Wendy has always been well protected by her husband and parents, and has almost never suffered any misfortune.
Until the Nilfgaardian army invaded their town, their family members and loved ones all died under the enemy's blade.
Only their only daughter Vanessa was left to flee their hometown with her.
Listening to the young woman in front of him sobbing and telling her memories, Frank couldn't help but feel a little pity for her.
People in troubled times are worse than dogs in peacetime.
The harm caused by war to people is the pain that many people cannot eliminate in their lifetime.
When their families, relatives, children, homes, and hometowns are all destroyed by war, even those who survived will probably only be left with a battered and bruised body.
