Chapter 69: The Resistance

Chapter 69 The Rebels (Page 1/2)

Nar Town is not far from Cintra City. Under the escort of the Nilfgaardian cavalry, the sorceress envoys soon arrived outside the city of Cintra.

As an ancient city with hundreds of years of history, Frank and others were shocked by the tragic scene outside the city before they had time to experience the historical atmosphere of the city.

From a distance, next to the woods outside the city, a huge mass grave was surrounded by logs by the Nilfgaardians.

Countless charred corpses were randomly discarded in the mass grave, and the stench of limbs, skeletons, rotten flesh, and burnt corpses came from afar with the air.

From time to time, some ghouls rushed out of the surrounded mass grave, and then in a short time, they were killed by the fully armed soldiers and thrown back into the mass grave.

In order to get rid of the endless corpse-eating creatures, they even arranged many crossbowmen to stand on the high ground outside the woods and shoot the monsters from a high position.

A thousand meters away from the mass grave, a slave camp surrounded by countless wooden cages was built there.

A large number of ragged Cintra people were tied up and locked in cages like dogs. They stared out of the cages with lifeless eyes and numb expressions, as if they had lost hope for the future.

There was not much food in the slave camp, and there was very little water. Everyone was pale and thin. Some of their clothes were stripped off, and some were left with only some tattered pieces, looking filthy.

The Nilfgaardians would not be kind enough to let them out of the cage to take care of their personal hygiene. The whole slave camp was full of the stench of feces and sweat, just like a large pigsty.

Some obese slave traders with fat faces and their own slave-catching teams were picking and choosing in the slave camp, like picking goods, selecting some healthy slaves, and then putting iron shackles on them, without treating these living people as their own kind.

The Nilfgaardian army camp was stationed a few hundred meters away from the slave camp. Their soldiers would occasionally pick up some young women from the slaves. As for whether the one sent back later was a corpse or a living person, no one could tell.

Seeing such a tragic scene, all the members of the sorceress envoys showed angry expressions. Roche, who was standing next to Frank, gritted his teeth and held the hilt of his sword in his hand, as if he was about to go berserk at any time.

This future commander of the Blue Iron Guard was born at the bottom of the civilians and was the child of a prostitute. He probably understood the pain of the civilians at the bottom the most.

Although the Kingdom of Cintra has always had an unfriendly relationship with other northern countries, as a member of the northerners, seeing their people being treated like pigs and dogs, any person with a conscience would feel disgusted with the Nilfgaardians.

Frank's feelings were particularly obvious.

Originally, in his impression, the war between the Nilfgaardian Empire and the northern countries was just a boring story background of a macro narrative.

He had no good feelings for both sides, let alone fighting for either side.

The so-called cruelty of war was mostly just a few fleeting scenes in movies and TV series in the past, and it was not felt truly.

But now, after seeing with his own eyes the Nilfgaardian army's attitude of treating the Kingdom of Cintra as worthless and slaughtering cities and destroying nations, he deeply realized the barbarity and cruelty of war, as well as the cruelty and hypocrisy of the Nilfgaardians.

As an invader, the Nilfgaardian Empire has done all kinds of bad things and has no bottom line as a human being. No wonder all the northerners in the original book hate them so much.
