Chapter 15: The Secret of the Witch

The cold air penetrated into his body, and even though Han Cheng wrapped himself tightly in fur, he was still shivering from the cold.

After being out for so long, he was completely frozen.

"Fish, plenty of it. Enough to eat. Go back and get warm."

Han Cheng made a bitter face and reluctantly stretched out his hand that had just regained some feeling from being stuffed under his armpit, and pulled the fish that he had forked out and thrown on the ice into the snow hole on the shore.

There are already more than a dozen fish with holes in their bodies here. Due to the cold weather, except for the three that were recently caught, the rest have been frozen solid.

Han Cheng no longer had any of the excitement he had when he first saw the fish. All his enthusiasm was frozen by the ubiquitous cold.

"Catching fish, it's not cold."

There's no hope for Lame. This guy is now completely immersed in the joy of catching fish and can no longer feel the cold.

He held the harpoon in his purple, frozen hands, staring closely at the number of fish in the ice hole, looking for a suitable opportunity to fish.

Hearing Han Cheng's words, he, who was already addicted to piercing fish, didn't even turn his head.

Han Cheng sniffed and thought, damn, what kind of sin is this!

I thought I was very clever in tricking a coolie out, but who could have imagined that this coolie was a complete workaholic!

Han Cheng stomped his feet, and his feet, which were wrapped in leather, were frozen numb.

"You, catch the fish. I, go back and give it to the witch."

Han Cheng expressed his meaning to Bo through words and gestures.

Never mind, never mind, let Bo Ai catch fish here. I won’t stay here with him and suffer the cold. If this continues, the tribe will have fish to eat, but I will probably lose my life here too!

After he finished speaking, without waiting for Bo to reply, he raised his legs and ran towards the cave. He didn't want to stay in this damn place any longer.

After running for a distance, Han Cheng stopped, thought about it, turned around and went back.

He found the smallest one among the more than ten fish on the ground, touched his cold hands, looked around, and broke off some tough dry grass that was exposed outside the snow and passed it through the fish's mouth. He pulled the dry grass and dragged the fish along, stepping on the frozen hard snow on the top, and rushed into the cave.

I couldn't go back without bringing a fish, otherwise I would have to spend a lot of time explaining to the witch that the fish was not missing, it was just blocked by ice.

And Wu probably won’t believe it.

It’s better to just take a fish back and save yourself the trouble.

Compared to the cold outside, it is much warmer inside the cave.

The witch, jumping and dancing, panting and sweating profusely, finally completed the sacrificial ceremony and prayed for blessings from the gods.

Although he looked calm, he was actually a little nervous.

This kind of uneasiness arises after every sacrifice.

This was not because he was not sincere in his sacrifices to the gods, nor was it because he did something wrong during the sacrifices, but because of a secret that had been hidden deep in his heart for many years.

The secret is...

He can't communicate with the gods as his tribesmen imagine!

This was a thorn in his side that had been with him for decades.

He could say with certainty that he was wholeheartedly dedicated every time he performed the sacrifice, and both the process and every action were done very well without any mistakes.

But what worries him is that he has never received any instructions from the gods in these years...

This made him feel uneasy. Even though he hid it very well and no one in the tribe had ever suspected him, he still felt a little uneasy.

He was worried that the gods, who had never given him any instructions, would stop protecting the tribe.

This made the witch very distressed, because he clearly remembered that the witch from the previous session had clearly told him that he could communicate with the gods.

It is precisely because of this that the witch feels even more uneasy after each sacrifice. After all, with the same ritual and the same actions, a witch can get instructions from the gods, but he can't...

The witch held the bone staff in both hands and placed it on the stone in front of the totem pole where the gods lived. He then carefully took off the feather crown on his head and placed it back in its original place with the same respect. Then he breathed a sigh of relief.

He turned around, wanting to take a look at the little fellow with a miraculous origin and transformation.

However, he did not see him in the cave, and the lame man was also missing.

Wu was a little anxious. He was very concerned about this little guy who fell from the sky.

Because in his understanding, the gods live in the sky where only birds can fly.

The totem pole placed in the tribe is just an incarnation of the god, where the god stays briefly when accepting sacrifices.

And this little guy fell from the sky.

This made the witch, who had never received any guidance from the gods, feel excited, as if he had seen some path.

Especially when he came down, such a horrifying scene happened.

A man stayed in the wild for a whole night and was not eaten by any wild beast. He was in this state but still came back to life.

All these things made him curious and concerned about this unusual little guy.

From the verbal and gesticulating accounts of several frail women who remained in the cave, the witch learned where Han Cheng was going and what they were going to do.

This made Wu both angry and somewhat touched.

Little guy, all the fish are gone in this cold weather, where can we catch them with a spear?

Don’t freeze yourself again!

As he thought about this, he looked at the five or seven children in the cave who were about the same size as the little guy or even much bigger than him, and he couldn't help but shook his head secretly.

They are all children, but these ones in the tribe only know how to sleep and play, which is far inferior to the little ones.

Although it would be useless for the little guy to go out at this time and he would suffer the cold in vain, but having this thought is enough.

Well, before he knew it, Han Cheng had also become someone else's child.

"You, you, call him back."

The witch looked at the half-grown children in the tribe and sighed for a while, then pointed at the two women who had just answered him and asked them to go out and call back Han Cheng and Bo.

Naturally, the two women did not dare to disobey the witch's orders. They found some furs and wrapped themselves with more furs. Then they moved the stone in the middle of the cave entrance, and the cool air outside immediately came in!

The two of them didn't hesitate, bent down and walked out.

Feeling the chill, the witch wanted to ask someone to seal the entrance of the cave again, but he found that the two women who had just gone out came back.

This made Wu confused and angry at the same time. They didn't even listen to him!

However, Wu was a very calm man. He did not get angry, but was about to ask. Before he could open his mouth, Han Cheng had already come in from outside the cave.

Feeling the warm air in the cave, Han Cheng couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.

A smile also appeared on Wu's face. He was about to praise this sensible little guy, but the next moment, he was stunned.

His eyes were fixed on the fish that Han Cheng had dragged back, and his face was full of astonishment and disbelief.
