Chapter 797: Wild Duck Inn and Pine Forest Inn Three-in-One

There is a stream here. If you walk down the stream for about ten miles, you will see a large lake with a water surface of about four or five miles.

It is formed by the confluence of many waters.

It is not easy to build roads in such an area because bridges need to be built in some places due to the streams.

In fact, if the road is stretched into a straight line, the Bronze Highway will basically pass through this wild lake.

Such a project is certainly not something that the current Qingque tribe can accomplish.

Even if it could be accomplished, Han Cheng would not lead the people in the tribe to do this thankless task.

In order to bypass this lake and the two larger rivers that flow into the lake, after surveying, Han Cheng finally decided to move the road nearly ten miles to the south of the lake.

Even this did not completely avoid the stream.

However, compared with the lake and two wider rivers, the workload has been reduced a lot by moving the road here.

Han Cheng is not thinking about building a bridge now.

Compared with normal road construction, building a bridge is much more troublesome.

However, according to the current manpower and material resources of the Qingque tribe, it is not a problem to build some stone bridges with short spans.

What Han Cheng is considering now is accommodation, or rather, setting up an inn here.

The nature of the Bronze Expressway connecting the Qingque main tribe and the Tongshan residential area determines its important role in the future.

Han Cheng made a rough measurement of this finalized route when he went to the Tongshan residential area. After straightening the route, it was nearly 170 miles.

Before the advent of horses, it would have been impossible to cover such a long distance in one day.

As a result, it became very necessary to build a post station on this road.

In the past and now, people in the tribe, including trading teams that travel frequently, always carry tents, ropes and other things with them when they go out.

When camping at night, we set up the tent and use ropes to circle a relatively safe area around the tent.

This way of camping is much safer than the way most tribes of that era camped directly in the wild without any shelter.

But from the perspective of Han Cheng, a later comer, this way of camping is not very safe.

In addition to the factor of insecurity, there are many other inconvenient factors.

Not to mention other things, just carrying tents, ropes and other things with you takes up a lot of space and is quite tiring.

In addition, after arriving at the camping site every day, we would set up the tent, lay ropes around it, and then dismantle the tent and other things early the next morning...

These things are troublesome just thinking about them.

When the trading team goes out to trade, they need to travel to many places, and it is not realistic to build fixed resting places along the way.

It is precisely because of this that although Han Cheng felt that building a temporary camp with tents and ropes was not only unsafe but also troublesome, he never suggested building something like a post station.

But now, the same thing happening on the Bronze Highway becomes a little different.

In the future, the transportation volume in the Tongshan residential area will definitely be larger, and unlike the road that Mao and others take when they go out to trade, this road is fixed. In this case, we can also consider building a post station on this road.

This place, which Han Cheng had just named Wild Duck Bridge, is about sixty miles away from the Tongshan residential area.

It is almost at the one-third node of the Bronze Highway.

By building a post station here and at another one-third of the nodes, the entire Bronze Highway can be artificially divided into three sections.

We were walking on a flat road, instead of climbing over mountains and hills as before. It was not a problem to travel sixty miles from morning to night.

As for emergencies, a person riding a donkey or leading two donkeys can easily walk 120 miles a day.

In this way, whether it is the person pulling the donkey cart or the person riding a donkey to report an emergency, they can have a place to stay on the road.

It is very reasonable to divide the entire Bronze Highway into three sections roughly evenly using two post stations.

Of course, the post station envisioned by Han Cheng is very different from the traditional one where there are special people guarding the post station, feeding the horses, and providing food and lodging.

The biggest difference is that after they were built, no one was assigned to guard these two stations.

Its most important function is to provide a safe and comfortable place for the people of the Qingque tribe who travel between the Qingque main tribe and the Tongshan residential area to stay without having to deal with the troubles they have now.

When the time comes, some stoves can be built here for people passing by to make fire and cook.

You can even store a small amount of food in some dark rooms and use it as relief food for people passing by.

Some people consumed the food, and when they came next time, they brought some food to replenish it.

As for the issue of whether this place will be sabotaged by someone because there is no one guarding it, there is no need to consider it too much in this era.

If a tribe really discovered these two post stations and settled in them, this...

This is not a bad thing for the Qingque tribe, on the contrary, it is a very good thing.

These are just Han Cheng’s preliminary plans for the two stations.

Later, when the number of people in the tribe gradually increased and the surrounding land was not enough for cultivation, they could consider "immigrating" to these two stations.

Then, with these two stations as the center, they developed in the surrounding areas, reclaimed land and planted crops.

Here, about ten miles to the north, there is a large lake with some rivers around it. While developing agriculture, we can also develop fisheries.

It can be foreseen that these two post stations, one close to the Tongshan residential area and the other close to the Qingque main tribe, are both located on the Bronze Highway. As long as there are enough people, they will definitely be able to develop in the future.

Maybe in the future, by taking the lead, it is not impossible to develop an economic zone along the entire Bronze Expressway on both sides of the road!

It turns out that if you want to get rich, you must first build roads!

Looking at the green-headed ducks swimming in the water, diving underwater from time to time and then popping up in another place, Han Cheng, in a good mood, thought of a widely circulated saying in later generations and agreed with it deeply.

After thinking about these things, Han Cheng took out the leather bag he was carrying from his back and took out the large map inside which showed the roughly known terrain from the Qingque main tribe to the Tongshan residential area. He found the location of this place on the Bronze Highway marked with red lines and put a dot on it.

A simple small house was painted around it, with the words "Wild Duck Inn" written on it.

At this time, Mao had already led his men to set up the camp for accommodation.

For people in trading teams who travel frequently, they are already very familiar with building such camps using tents, ropes and other things.

When the camp was set up and the fire for cooking was lit, Shang, who had gone out with some other people, also came back.

Shang was holding two mallards shot with a bow and arrow in his hands, and several other people took out a dozen green-skinned wild duck eggs from their pockets.

Han Cheng happily plucked the feathers of the two wild ducks, then put them on sticks and roasted them over the charcoal fire.

As for the ten wild duck eggs that were much larger than the chicken eggs in the tribe, Han Cheng did not let anyone eat them.

Instead, he pulled a lot of grass and put it into an empty ceramic jar, made it soft, and then put the wild duck eggs in it.

If we want to quickly have a group of wild ducks in the tribe and breed them, we can't just rely on the three little guys caught last time. It's too slow.

Han Cheng plans to take these wild duck eggs back to hatch them and get a batch of ducklings.

Han Cheng was not worried at all about how to hatch duck eggs into ducklings since there were no adult ducks in the tribe.

It is true that there are no adult ducks in the tribe, but there are many adult chickens.

When we get back, we can let the chickens hatch the ducklings.

Letting chickens hatch duck eggs may sound a bit far-fetched, but it is actually not far-fetched at all.

When Han Cheng was a child, he had seen more than once an old hen leading a group of children that were obviously not her own, looking for food everywhere.

In fact, it is not only duck eggs that can be hatched by chickens. Even goose eggs that need to be incubated for a longer time can also be hatched by chickens.

This is because chickens are rather stubborn. Once they want to start hatching chicks, they will not end the incubation period until the eggs beneath them are hatched.

In other words, the length of its incubation period depends entirely on whether anything is hatched.

In later times, some families thought that it took too long to incubate eggs, so after the chickens entered the incubation period, they would go directly to the town to buy the hatched chicks from other people's homes.

At night, the chicks are secretly placed under the body of the old hen that is preparing to hatch eggs. Early the next morning, the old hen will end the hatching period and then happily take the chicks that suddenly appeared around to look for food, treating them no differently than her own children.

Do I have to castrate another rooster so that the two of them can hatch together?

After thinking about it, Han Cheng decided not to do this cruel thing. Instead, he got half a basin of warm water and put the duck eggs into the basin.

After some duck eggs were put into the basin, they slowly sank to the bottom of the water, while others floated on the surface of the water.

Han Cheng fished out the eleven floating duck eggs and put them aside. There was no need to incubate them anymore, as no ducklings would hatch if they were incubated again.

Take out the remaining 17 duck eggs, wipe them dry with sackcloth, and place them one by one under the body of the drunken rooster.

When the rooster wakes up from his drunken streak, he will go further and further on the road to becoming a glorious mother duck...
